the hour. growing pressure on president biden to finally speak out about the chinese spy flight and three other objects shot down from the skies over north america. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are pushing for the president to be more transparent about the decision to shoot down the objects and the growing threat from china. welcome to a new hour of "america's newsroom," i'm dana perino. >> bill: good morning. how are we doing? >> dana: fast hour. >> bill: i'm bill hemmer. president biden so far keeping silent about the airborne objects shot down over the weekend. that was last weekend as lawmakers demand answers. the white house now considering plans for biden to give a speech on the topic before heading to poland on monday. secretary of state antony blinken will have a possible opportunity to meet with china's top diplomat later this week in germany. his first chance to de-escalate the tension face-to-face. mike pompeo saying it is time for the biden administration to get tough on china. >> this administration has declined to do anything that will protect the american

7:03 am
montana and across this country. people are concerned. i think it would help allay the concerns. >> not overly concerned the vice president. she was asked if the u.s. shootdown of a chinese spy flight should impact u.s. and chinese relations and she told "politico", quote, i don't think so, no. that has rick scott republican of florida saying her failure to understand and act on the threats facing our nation isn't just embarrassing, it is dangerous. communist china is our worst enemy and wants to destroy our way of life. if kamala harris doesn't understand that she should resign. on capitol hill lawmakers who have seen classified reports on the spy flight don't get why most of the details inside are classified. >> there are things they should tell us they don't know. they shouldn't let on to sources and methods but i don't think they've been transparent enough. as you know, when they are not transparent, you know, the wild speculation, unfounded fears can result in the public.
7:04 am
they need to be more transparent. >> at some point the president will have to say something about this. we just don't know when. >> bill: you reckon? thank you, peter. nice to see you back at work. >> dana: joining us for more on that republican senator tom cotton of arkansas. you were at yesterday's classified briefing on china and efforts to invade our airspace. john tester said this. there is bipartisan concern. listen here. >> the bottom line is this. they invaded our airspace. our airspace. they invaded. it is unacceptable. the fact is, it was inappropriate behavior and we need to respond in a way that shows them we don't stand for inappropriate behavior. >> dana: it is rare you get such bipartisan agreement, senator. >> where the biden administration has handled this entire balloon episode so poorly you have bipartisan agreement. the briefing yesterday was an alarming report on the state of china's military and the threat
7:05 am
to taiwan and allies in the western pacific and ultimately to american interest and why president biden's reaction to this spy balloon is so alarming and dangerous for the american people. i mean now you have kamala harris saying it shouldn't affect relationships. joe biden said it wasn't a major breach to fly a spy balloon across the united states. you have administration officials excusing china and apologizing for them saying they only meant to fly it over guam and hawaii and wind took it off course. a heck of a wind to blow it to alaska and continental united states and blow it over our nuclear missile fields and command and control sites. it is astonishing the biden administration is trying to turn the page on all this, act like it never happened. apologize for chinese communists. what they need to do is take a firm stand and make clear that we will not tolerate this kind of aggression from the chinese communists. >> bill: mitch mcconnell just told dana 15 minutes ago coming
7:06 am
out of the classified briefing they don't seem to know anything. that was his quote. if you go through the transcript of the pilots over lake huron over the weekend. it is hard to locate. the sun was strong. catching them in their eyes. but they indicated this object, whatever it was, they couldn't identify it, by the way. i don't know if they called it a balloon, in fact. they said it was smaller than the size of a car. so if you are flying at 25,000 feet, that's a spec in the atmosphere. can you illuminate us more on what these were? >> no, i really can't. this is why i think it's so important that joe biden come out and speak on camera to the american people today. justin trudeau the canadian prime minister did that last weekend. we aren't in a situation where trudeau is a more forceful leader than the american president. especially important that the president speak to the american
7:07 am
people before he leaves to go overseas later this holiday weekend. when the american people deserve answers from our president about exactly why he treated these balloons as he did, why he took the actions he did. especially why he allowed the first one, which is clearly a chinese spy balloon, to float on its merry way across america when we had it in our sights and could have downed it off the aleutian islands. >> dana: another issue has been covid. the world health organization quietly shelved its investigation into the origins of the pandemic. this has repercussions that we're still dealing with with learning loss or those experiencing long covid. now that these leaders will get together, is it time for some changes perhaps to the who? >> this is really an extension of what we've been discussing. the world health organization is in the pocket of chinese communists, they would never be trustworthy to identify the origins of the coronavirus.
7:08 am
as i said from the very beginning, despite the qatar walling of liberals in the media it almost certainly originated in labs in wuhan. the biden administration has turned itself into pretzels trying to avoid pinning the blame on the chinese communist party. one more example how they apologize for china, appease them and excuse their behavior to try to maintain the smooth relationship that joe biden has always advocated with our worst adversary in the world. >> dana: tom cotton, sounds like a busy day at the capitol. >> bill: thank you, senator, talk again soon. what senator dane said from montana was telling. he said norad was established in 1958. we are talking 60 years. that's alaska, canada and the lower 48. it never happened before. we haven't sent a fighter
7:09 am
aircraft to shoot down anything in 60 years. now we've done it repeatedly and yet no explanation. i imagine today could be the day, i think. i wonder if he will take questions. >> dana: i have a feeling they're trying to figure out how to explain the contradiction of allowing the chinese spy balloon to go across and shooting down three things that perhaps were not a threat at all. >> bill: maybe start with that question. >> dana: we'll see what we find out. also this on fentanyl. >> the cartels are acting with deliberate calculated treachery and they make these pill buying pill presses and dyes and dye molds mostly from china as well that look identical to the real pharmaceutical medicines. >> bill: the d.e.a. administrative. impressive person testifying yesterday. she calls the fentanyl crisis the single deadliest drug threat we've ever seen as the border patrol announces it seized enough fentanyl to kill 100
7:10 am
million people. aishah hosni is on that story. >> you were just on the border and you know as well as i do it's a bipartisan issue on capitol hill where everyone, democrats and republicans, want to see the stop of fentanyl coming across our southern border and that is why yesterday senators held a hearing on this questioning administration officials about this crisis. both sides agree the administration needs to be tough with china specifically which is the main splier of fentanyl that comes through mexico. >> has china done enough to stop the transport of fentanyl from china to mexico? i would appreciate a yes or no answer. >> no. i doubt he cares about his chemical and pharmaceutical industry supplying the mexican cartels flooding the united states with fentanyl. >> here is where it gets a little tricky. republicans brought up the open border during this hearing. some democrats didn't love that saying that this wasn't really the place to talk about it.
7:11 am
>> would cutting the number of agents in half stop our drugs? >> we have a bipartisan urgency to deal with this crisis and it is frustrating to me that in this hearing, a lot of folks want to try to levy other issues that are not central to dealing with this scourge. >> where there is also some more bipartisanship senators going after the social media platforms cracking down on them for illegally selling fentanyl to teenagers. >> bill: thank you, we're watching it from here. nice to see you. >> dana: possible good news story. a breakthrough maybe in the treatment of autism. scientists say an epilepsy drug used to switch off symptoms of autism in mike. dr. marc siegel will be here to break it down. >> bill: capturing how the cartels are in control of the
