tracks and crashed and fire from it burned for days, releasing those killer chemicals into the air. norfolk southern train corporation and the transportation secretary pete buttigieg failed to show up. the city's mayor says buttigieg is missing in action. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." new problems we're hearing from people that we've been interviewing in "focus." they waited too long to evacuate people and let them go home too quickly knowing how bad it was. now thousands of people are living in fear. i mean even the governor says he is going to drink bottled water. problems are building. people are having trouble breathing. their pets are dying. thousands of dead fish in the local streams. still transportation secretary pete buttigieg seems to have lost his ability to speak on this disaster. the community wants to know
8:02 am

[applause] >> harris: yeah. norfolk southern officials said they skipped the town hall out of fear for their safety. the mayor finds that hard to explain. >> i understand, sir. i am just as frustrated as you are.
8:03 am
>> harris: lucas tomlinson is in east palestine, ohio, lucas. >> we've learned from ohio governor mike dewine's office the governor spoke to white house officials this morning to request federal aid. at this time, fema says ohio is not eligible at this time for some of that aid. others will see. behind me is the high school, the scene of that contentious hearing last night. all is calm now. a much different story last night as our viewers just heard. many residents demanding where was norfolk southern and where is buttigieg. >> i am shocked they weren't there last night although we've been told the reason that norfolk southern representatives weren't there is they had been threatened with bodily harm and worried for their safety. but as far as the secretary of transportation, i certainly would like to see more from him.
8:04 am
we need help. >> the ntsb is now investigating the massive train derailment two weeks ago focusing on this video showing sparks flying off the wheels of that eastbound norfolk southern freight train 20 miles before the derailment sending toxic chemicals in the air in this small many community. the governor said the tap water is safe to drink but recommended residents keep drinking bottled water. >> it is clear that water certainly can be consumed by residents. i know people have been concerned about that. we advise people until we got the testing back we advised them don't drink the water. use bottled water. >> president biden's epa chief is due in town around 12:30. right now he appears to be the face of the federal response.
8:05 am
many residents are asking him to drink that tap water. >> harris: i hope somebody gets that on camera. good to see you. thank you. minutes from now i'll be joined by a pennsylvania man, i told you this has seeped into the next state. he lives about a mile and a half from the toxic derailment zone where the plume was and has spread. he was at last night's meeting and is livid the train company were no shows. when the united states military shot down the mystery objects last weekend president biden apparently lost his voice. we know he can speak just not about this issue. americans in the dark for nine full days and counting. a new op-ed says his silence is no joke. quote, someone better level soon about the shoot downs, at the moment silent joe biden is melting down the government's credibility with the american people to about 0. that is dangerous.

8:07 am
>> it is astounding that they have had nothing to say, harris. indeed, the president should give an oval office address to the people of this country and tell everyone what they know. we have had our briefings, our classified briefings, but they are not satisfactory and what we're hearing is things that we say the american people need to hear this. you need to speak up. they need to know about the chinese spy balloon. they need to know how many balloons have been spotted coming over this country in the last five years. they need to answer the question of why it took a reporter in montana putting it on the newspaper website for the administration to have anything to say. and these other items that were shot down last week, why did they choose to shoot them down and what do they know about them and what have either we or the

canadians been able to gather from wreckage? >> harris: all great questions. when you said moments ago the senate hearings have not been satisfactory i will take it that none of those questions were even approached. >> you are correct. we did not get answers on any of those questions. and the fact that this balloon hovered in montana and then did a little sachet across the country in defiance of our sovereign airspace and then going out over the atlantic ocean. why is it they said we chose to wait until it got out to the atlantic? did they know it was going to the atlantic, not to the gulf or the pacific? we have so many questions and it is imperative the president find his voice and get some facts and start talking to the american people. >> harris: earlier this week white house press secretary cran stumbled quite a bit when asked

8:10 am
you look at what they are doing with the spy balloons and what they are doing with tiktok and how they are surveilling our people and our children. you look at what is happening to our kids. fentanyl is the largest killer of kids 18 to 45 years old. >> harris: let's get into it definitely. texas sheriff shared and incredible detail at a congressional hearing yesterday. he told lawmakers nearly 2,000 drones used by mexican drug cartels are here swarming the united states skies. that's interesting since they've been shooting stuff down. we're seeing a shift now politically with growing bipartisan calls to tackle the flood of fentanyl that senator blackburn is detailing now. it is coming across our southern border. the border is open. we all know it. gaps as wide as miles. leadership with the national drug control policy center say it is the worst drug crisis
8:11 am
we've ever seen. lawmakers at a hearing with this reaction. >> i have to be honest with you. try to get them to act is not -- there has to be other considerations. i just think we work with our mexican friends with kid gloves on this issue. >> i don't know how many more lives have to be lost for mexico to get engaged. >> fentanyl, as we all agree, robs children of parents and parents of children. they rob communities of our friends, co-workers and neighborhoods. the mexican cartels have taken advantage of the weak border enforcement. >> harris: you have been there a& on the issue on the hill. >> i have legislation right now that would stop the drug and sex traffickers from getting federal benefits after being arrested. what we learned from many of these law enforcement officers and border patrol is people live in government housing. they get welfare benefits and
8:12 am
then their side hustle is trafficking in drugs and people. so when they are arrested, it would stop their benefits immediately. they could not live in government housing. they couldn't get welfare or unemployment benefits. it would all stop immediately. we have to do that to send the message we won't let them do this because 70,000 americans lost their lives to fentanyl poisoning last year. as i said, number one killer of 18 to 45-year-olds. and then you have children, babies that are dying from fentanyl poisoning. fox news has an article up about it right now. harris, the fact that these cartels are getting rich. they are getting rich off of what they are doing to the american people and to the people that are coming here illegally. they are buying the lie. this administration has to secure the border and you
8:13 am
mentioned the drones. when i was down at del rio sector they were talking about the cartel has better technology than local law enforcement and the border patrol and they are surveilling them all across the border. all of these border towns they are surveilling and finding back ways to get these criminal illegal aliens into the country. these drug traffickers, chinese entering the country up 700%. and they are probably here to surveilling and spy. >> harris: that's where it is coming from, from china, north of 95% of fentanyl as we know. senator blackburn, when you come back the next time let's get into that legislation and see where it goes. i don't think many of us know the dollar amounts that are being spent. i really want to get into it. by the way, the original crime was coming here illegally.

can't we act on that, too? the president is still spitting out those false claims on republicans and them wanting to go after social security. he also blames republicans over a dire new warning about our nation's debt. larry kudlow has quite a different take. >> this is bidenomics. spend it, tax it, regulate it. cbo thinks inflation will stay down in ten years. i would suggest to them, think again with this kind of spending and borrowing. >> harris: and it will get worse. the spending, borrowing set to add nearly $19 trillion to the tab in the next decade. fox business's david asman in "focus" next. get ready for a shock. the rate on credit cards is now over 22%. if you want to save hundreds of dollars every month, pay off the balances on your high-rate cards with a lower rate va home loan from newday usa
