reporter: former president donald trump is expected to come here to east palestine on wednesday, eric. eric: about time. lucas, everybody is scared apparently. it's been two weeks or so. what's the situation with the chemicals in the water and in the air? everyone has concerns but not everybody. reporter: that's right, eric not everybody is scared. just a few minutes before joining you on air i spoke to a man that's been director of youth basketball operations here in the town of east palestine and grew up here and said a youth basketball tournament was canceled this weekend and cost him $40,000 in revenue. i mentioned earlier the kids are back in school, they've been in school since monday. he says you have to press on. that if they say the air is clean and water is clean, life does need to return to normal. he said norfolk southern was very helpful with payments, but his big concern is if the kids are at home and they're not out playing basketball and not

9:06 am
david. reporter: hi, arthel. the other objects shot down, administration officials believe they are from private entities and not any other enemy nation states but the question is why are those being forgotten? that's something we still cannot seem to get from this administration. on the chinese spy balloon, they call it a weather balloon, we call it a spy balloon. we know that antony blinken met with his counter part in muay niche, germany -- munich, germany. just a few weeks ago the chinese weren't even taking our phone calls and see where we've come in a couple few weeks and china is engaging with the white house while the president and his team tell china what happened is unacceptable and secretary blinken met with the communist giant's foreign minister and yi called the response to the spy craft absurd and hysterical. >> what i can tell you is this was a opportunity to speak very clearly and very directly about the fact that china sent a

surveillance balloon over our territory violating our sovereignty and international law. i told them quite simply that that was unacceptable and can never happen again. reporter: but newly minted 2024 presidential candidate former south carolina governor un ambassador ni nikki haley took e rhetoric up a notch. >> they're lying about the balloon just like covid and time to stop being reactionary and start being aggressive and let chai that know what we expect of them. >> president biden plans to speak to his co counter part xi jinping and this was a abuse of use of force and violation of customary international practice in the international civil aviation co covenant and china deplores and strongly protests. this comes from the chinese side
9:08 am
and china continues to say the united states has done the same thing with these types of balloons all though u.s. administration officials say that is just a complete lie. not true. arthel. arthel: a lot of hot air across the board. david, thank you. >> you're welcome. arthel: eric. eric: that's indication that beijing may help supply lethal weapons to russia. bring in gordon change off the collapse of china and tech war and senior fellow of the gate stone institute here in new york. gordon wang, the foreign minister rebuffed blinken and ridiculed washington. how do you characterize the chinese stance? >> the chinese stance is un-relents hostility and whether we're talking about a spy balloon or anything else, this is china's stance. it doses this almost every single day with hostility in its ppropaganda, and we americans ae
9:09 am
not paying attention to this. in may 2019, they even declared a "people's war" on us and we decided that it wasn't really a big deal. so really what we've got to do is understand what the chinese say and listen to what they say because as james lily, a american ambassador to beijing said, the chinese telegraph their punches. they're doing this, eric, to establish a justification to strike america. eric: to strike america and not just potentially taiwan? >> yes, i mean clearly what we saw was a balloon going over our most sensitive sites. all the air force bases where there's nuclear deterrent. offet air force is the home of nuclear weapons command and the conclusion must be they're planning a first or second strike on the united states with their most destructive weapons. eric: gordon, that seems very
9:10 am
awill remembering talking about a first strike with nuclear weapons from china. first of all why and second how do we prevent that? >> they threatened to do that because they don't want us to intervene if they attack iowa hawkeyes wan, japan -- taiwan, japan, philippines or whatever. president pure tone average tin's threat -- we heard nuke threats from both china and north korea. so i think they do intend to make the threats to use their nuclear weapons before or shortly after invading. eric: speaking of ukraine, beijing may start supplying lethal aid to putin for this horrendous invasion and catastrophe he's caused and what will that do and how will that ramp up the tensions if beijing does jump in? >> well, beijing has already jumped in from the very beginning of the war. chai china's been supplying
9:11 am
military assistance and it was the location that china obtained and ukraine using chinese-made drones and the russians could take out ukrainian drone operators and there's this report that dji, the chinese drone maker has supplied drones to the wagner group of russia, that's involved in the war. china has been involved in helping russia across the board whether talking about elevated commodity purchases to support and finance the russian war effort or talking about diplomatic or propaganda support. this administration is issuing warning to china and they kipling knowing them and the chinese will continue to supply military assistance. we need to stop issuing hollow warnings and imposing costs on china for clearly being on russia's side in the ukraine war. eric: what type of price should they pay? what should we start doing? we heard nikki haley in a sound byte a moment ago saying we need
9:12 am
to be more aggressive in dealing with china. what do you suggest? >> i suggest cutting relations across the board. our response, there's a menu of stuff we can do weather trade investment, technical assistance cooperation agreements with china, we should just start cutting this and it should be disproportionate and american policymakers for decades loved the idea of proportionate responses and they think that avoids escalation but, you know, those policies have not worked, and we need to impress upon the chinese that we're serious in defending our allies, friends, and united states because so far the chinese don't think we're going to protect ourselves. eric: finally, gordon, clearly the chinese lie and beijing is full of it. look at the spokesman for the government tweeted out about ukraine. "china is not a party to the ukraine crisis but we've not set oddly buyer or added fuel to the fire. everything china has done is aimed at facilitating peace
9:13 am
through dialogue and for a safer world and sovereignty and territorial of all countries must be respected and principle of sovereignty is the cornerstone of contemporary international order". sovereignty sending balloons over us. >> there's no question about it. china obviously doesn't want ukraine to protect its own sovereignty. china green lighted the ukraine invasion and that's evident from the 5,300 joint statement that china and russia issued on february 420 days before russia's invasion and that's when china and russia declared no limits partnership and biden administration sees all that china is doing to support russia and doesn't do anything. yes, the chinese will continue to be on the other side and they'll be there until we impose whatever cost. i'd love to cut trade and investment. i'd las love to it can he beiny cal cooperation and close their four consulates in the u.s. and we need to cut back and show
