forcing a patrol car and one officer injured and several police cars damage. here is the problem they are understaffed from officers on the street to 911 operators. in october just 66% of calls answered within 15 seconds. the actual standard is 90%. they also have to lower minimum job requirements just to fill an unprecedented number of job openings. one councilwoman reported being on hold for 28 minutes saturday night to report the street racing. in 2020 the allston state council voted to slash the police budget during the defund the police budget by $150 million here at the austin police associated tweeted this with a video of saturday night "allston policymakers are directly responsible for the overall safety of their citizens and visitors. looks like they failed to make the right decisions, and

businesses to manage them. i went to get an oil change and we can't accommodate you there was a shooting next door and that place closed up shop and moved out along several other businesses nearby. this is becoming more and more common. more and more people having this problem where they're trying to get these people off their property and they just won't go. >> ashley: they won't go but what of the city or state leaders doing about this for making it easier? >> they are making it easier for them ever since the coronavirus pandemic, they make it easier for squatters to remain in place because they don't have to pay rent. we will pay your legal bills to keep you on the property. so you're not just talking about people who are homeless and moved onto a property but people who signed a lease or whatever it was and stop paying and destroying properties for this small mom and pop landlords that were saving up for their life savings. >> ashley: why do they not have to pay rent is my question >> sorry i sorry for not

and give it back to the bank because whatever i owe is not worth it because i can't get the people off of my property. the seattle city council where they are socialist on the council and they want rent control now for everybody. and they are impacting small mom-and-pop landlords and making it for them, a retirement package or own one or two houses but they are not these big landlords but you have these companies, hedge funds willing to buy these properties appear they kick out who is on the property because they have the means to do so here they jack up the rates. and then that makes housing less affordable for people and small mom and pop landlord and they get a new tenant we will charge you more because we don't know when the city will drop another moratorium and we have to be in action. that raises the rent as well. >> these squatters get rated by a squad. they had 52 or 54 stolen cars,

decided what they would give in aid if anything to the people of east palestine and talk about inflation and talk about social security, and certainty right now. how can americans trust where the biden administration is putting money but not only that, why should we be the ones held responsible for funding the war in ukraine? >> no, obviously we are further down the line as it relates to prioritization of this administration's resources and how they are being spent. i would flash back to last year when the hurricane struck in florida. vice president kamala harris made it clear they are going to prioritize communities of color meant malaise, fema disaster relief and east palestine not being one of those communities. i would take them on their word. they are doing exactly what they said.

spend our money and the right way for children's education, for instance. >> griff: you said parents have been crying, pleading for better schools, for better classrooms. this clearly is irrefutable evidence that these teachers, protected by teachers unions are not doing their job in teaching these kids when you literally have zero students proficient in math and reading in 55 schools. if the numbers were low in substandard, may be you can make the argument but something is not happening in the classroom. mind you we went last year through some areas of the country the parents speaking out at the town halls and being labeled domestic terrorists. >> i don't know that it's fair to lay this all at the feet of teachers. there are a lot of children facing homelessness that are not

attending classes regularly. there are a number of fact in addition to that. but what we have to find is a lot of these children are coming from poverty-stricken communities. and i believe as a community we just can't focus on the dollars being put in the classroom. we have to reengage the working class, rebuild working-class communities. we have to have parents able to get their children to school everyday on time inside the classroom and so the kids are ready to learn every day. >> griff: i hear you, i hear you, but you are the father of six and walking the issues for a minute. >> i am walking in it. >> griff: a single student proficient in math and reading, would you not all those teachers accountable? >> no question about it, but again, we have missed something if willingly focus on what

situation whether the near future or the distant future for these people of ohio and east palestine? >> good morning, ashley, griff. i am concerned. the train was curing a variety of chemicals, and we have to worry about the byproducts of the chemicals. these chemicals are used to make paints, plastics, pesticides. so think about it you're not supposed to be inhaling or such ingesting these chemicals that are causing acute symptoms. the concern is every single day we are exposed to some sort of pollutant. for example, vinyl chloride has a permissible exposure limit of no more than five parts per million and no longer than 15 minutes. the people in this community, they may have been exposed to these chemicals all day long, 24/7 whether in the air, the water were on the surfaces.

that is why we are seeing acute symptoms of burning of the eye or rash skin, sore throats or difficulty breathing, coughing, wheezing. you're absolutely right. i'm concerned about the long-term consequences if these chemicals are embedded in the ground, the soil or in the water systems peer than we worry about things like developmental birth defects, reproductive issues, neurological complications, respiratory complications down the road. but i'm very happy to see that finally, fema will assist the cdc, going to be assisting and this is really important, ongoing testing, but not just for a vinyl chloride but a variety of chemicals. as we see, the wildlife are dying and the chemicals are there. i do think it will dissipate day by day, but we need to stay on top of it. >> griff: dr. nesheiwat, we are told for the testing officials that the water is okay

to drink. the long-term effects, really is where the story should go because when the camera's pullout and the news video is left, what is long-term? and i want you to address that a little bit more if you could. but just quickly, if you lived here in east palestine, would you drink the water? >> >> no, i have to be honest i would drink bottled water. remember, when they say the word safe, they are meeting for threshold between 11-5 for example. if you a to make exposed to that level if you minutes each day it will accumulate in your tissues. that is where we see problems long-term in addition to acute symptoms we are seeing. at this moment, no, i would not drink the water. i would make sure i'm drinking bottled water until i have assurance the levels are lowering day by day. because we see first hand and you don't need testing to see
