his support for law enforcement. first things first, governor, great to see you. welcome to new york. i know you're going to philadelphia after come over to pennsylvania afterwards. first things first, on the president's unannounced visit, is this a good move? >> brian, i am reminded of when he was vice president. obama and biden opposed providing lethal aid to ukraine during those years. that i'm also reminded that i don't think any of this would have happened but for the weakness the president showed during his first year in office, culminating, of course, the disastrous withdrawal in afghanistan. i think while he's over there, i think i and many americans are thinking to ourselves, is very concerned about those porters halfway around the world. he's not donating to secure our own board here at home. he had millions and millions of people pour in, tens of thousands of americans dead because of fentanyl, and we just suffered a national humiliation of having china fly a spy

balloon clear across the continental united states. so we have a lot of problems accumulating here in our own country that he is neglecting. >> lisa: n, governor, great to see you, as a floridian. nice to see you, sir. >> steve: you're both in new york today. speech here but we have to get back to florida. we have seen incoherence from this administration, no defined policy in ukraine, no defined objective of what winning looks like, and i think a lot of americans are asking how much more money, how much more time, how much more human suffering? >> they have effectively a blank check policy with no clear strategic objective identified, and these things can escalate, and i don't think it's in our interest to be getting into a proxy war with china getting involved over things like the borderlands or over crimea. so i think it would behoove them to identify what is the strategic objective that they are trying to achieve. but just saying it's an

open-ended blank check, that's not acceptable. >> steve: governor, what does a win look like for us for ukraine? >> i think it's important to point out, the fear of russia going into nato countries and all that, and steamrolling, that has not even come close to happening. i think they have shown themselves to be a third-rate military power. i think they have suffered tremendous, tremendous losses. i got to think the people in russia are probably disapproving of what's going on. i don't think they can speak up about it for obvious reasons. i think russia has been really wounded here, and i don't think they are the same threat to our country, even though they are hostile. i don't think they are on the same level as china. >> brian: you're doing something very important, announcing your tour as you go to liberal cities to talk directly to officers, many of which moved to florida, some of whom might move to florida again. but you are very strong on that.

what is the mission today in staten island? >> i think the mission is to say you see florida success, number one in that migration, fastest-growing, all these things people have said, and yes, taxes, covid, all of that helped. but the foundation of their success has been law and order and support for the people that wear the uniform. we've done that in florida. we are now recruiting more and more people from other states. we have done a thousand different officers. i've gotten $5,000 signing bonuses since july. we want more people from new york and chicago, these places were they not happy. they know they have a home in florida. but i think i we have governed versus how these woke cities have governed, the woke approach to crime and law and order and being anti-police, those policies have failed. florida's policies have succeeded. so we need everyone around the country to support the people that wear the uniform, to support policies that keep communities safe, and to abandon this woke nonsense like

releasing criminals or electing prosecutors that don't follow the law. >> lisa: governor, a lot of it comes down to the mentality. the cities you're going into, we have arrived at this point where they see criminals as the victims. how did we get here? >> to me, it's all putting ideology over public safety. you look at new york city, no city -- it was the safest big city probably in the world under rudy giuliani and under michael bloomberg. people loved it and now they found that all t away, and i hae described spy, officers' lives are more at risk, because they have to risk their lives to put somebody away, but the judge releases them so they end up having to arrest the same diet week or two later in risk their lives again. you've also seen places like chicago where these prosecutors are not going after the people. so this has huge effects on quality of life, and i can tell you this, lisa -- when people

moved to florida, you expect to hear, "i had to get away from the covid restrictions, or the taxes," and you heard that during that time in particular. but the number one thing you hear over and over again is, "i need safe communities." it's because a lot of people to leave these formerly thriving areas. >> steve: governor, i know a lot of law enforcement members down in florida at about half of them used to work within about 10 miles of where i'm sitting right now. so why are you in new york today? are you recruiting officers to go from these liberal cities down to florida? or is this one of those things people who might be running for president would do, to go ahead and start to get the ball rolling? >> i think it's definitely the former. we have put a lot of money into police recruitment. it's been very successful. so we want to let people know, we are here, we've got a lot of great benefits. you will be appreciated and

you'll have policies that work. but he think also just the broader message. not even about the president or anything like that, but for our country, it's important to admit that these left-wing policies have failed. they've empowered criminals. they put the public at risk, they put law enforcement officers at risk. so i think this experiment has concluded, and we need to move in the direction where, across the board, from sea to shining sea, we have a commitment to respect for law enforcement and for law and order. >> brian: governor, i know tim scott is on the listening to her. last night nikki haley formerly went in. we know former president donald trump is in. what is your timeline to decide if that's the next best thing for you and your family, for you to run for president? >> i've got two big things coming up. one, have a book coming out on to berry 28th. you can see it at desantisbuch.com. it's called "the courage to be

free." it's about the florida blueprint for american revival. we are going to spread the message of florida. and then on march 8th i have the legislative session kicking off. i think, as you know, we would make a big victory in florida, which is great for the governor, though we have super majorities in the legislature, so you're going to see -- i think people look at florida like, "man, the governor has gotten a lot done." you ain't seen nothing yet. this is going to be the most productive legislative session we have had across the board, and i think people are going to be really excited. so those are what we are going to be doing over these next few months as we get beyond that, then we decide from there. >> lisa: you come under a lot of incoming fire recently. nikki haley taking aim at you, at larry hogan, as well, and the governor of illinois, from your visit coming up here to chicago. what is your reaction to some of those attacks? >> well, lisa, you know, if you

are an office holder and you just sitting there twiddling your thumbs and not getting anything done, no one ever says anything. you can kind of just fly under the radar. but when you're out there leading, when you are out there setting the agenda, not just for florida, but for the nation, which we have done over the last few years, people see that, and people that don't necessarily like that are going to respond accordingly. but i can tell you, if people are not firing at me, i must not be doing my job. so it's really positive feedback. >> you can get some positive feedback if you just stood up and turned around and said, "hey, folks, i'm going to president." you would have a standing ovation right now. we'll give you 20 seconds. >> wouldn't you love to have that announcement on "fox & friends"? >> steve: of course we would! >> lisa: governor, emma floridian! help me out! >> brian: that's called a standoff. we do have a speech on fox nation coming out, "who is

i think it's interesting that he let them know he was coming into kyiv. i guess sort of saying, "okay, if you do anything while you're there, you've been warned, so don't." but i think it's an important one. it's a really interesting thing with your audience, i think. and a lot of republicans think, great, the west should be fighting putin and taking him on like this and helping the ukrainians win this war, but there are many republicans you don't agree with that. but your debate was interesting this morning. from where i sit, i just think you cannot let this despotic monster win. if putin wins, as you've been saying, he's not going to stop here. this is a guy who believed the soviet unions should have never been broken up. he wants to restore it to what he thinks was his great imperial power. so if he prevails in ukraine, two things will happen. one, he'll keep invading other countries to try and install the soviet union. two, china will look at this, and i think it's more significant because they are

more of a danger. if we going to taiwan, what's going happen? probably not very much. these are the reasons why i think he's got to be defeated. let's be honest, america as always, if america doesn't supply the main hardware year for ukrainians to do this, they're not going to enact. you have a great position to being the number one superpower in the world, but that means, i'm afraid you carry a duty and responsibility when democracy and freedom are under this kind. you have to step up in the way that i think president biden is doing is doing. >> lisa: the frustration with people like me, when there's all these different buzzwords, but there is an incoherent response of what that winning looks like, and we don't have a coherent response from this administration, the defining -- >> but i can answer it. on that point, this is what winning looks like. you kick the russians out of all the land they've seized in the last year. >> lisa: how many -- >> i think, actually, it takes air power, and i think president zelenskyy, when he

came to the u.k. couple weeks ago, made it very clear that it's the airpower that will help him prevail. but you need to take back the land. what i was in ukraine -- >> l>> lisa: 20 time? >> brian: they need the longer-range missiles. >> but i think airpower is what they desperately need right now. when i went to ukraine and i spent time with president zelenskyy and his wife, the first lady, and a lot of the local ukrainians, the unbelievable spirit is tangible. to a man or woman, old and young, i spoke to you on the streets of kyiv, none of them want to concede 1 inch of land to putin and his barbarians. when you go to places on the outskirts of kyiv 90 see what that massacre did to those people, i met people who had lost their children in that massacre. when you speak to them, the fire inside them to repel the russians -- i think they are right. it's an attack not just on ukraine, but on freedom, democracy, and a sovereign country. >> i hear you, i can't imagine

how heartbreaking that is to speak these people. they should want to defend their homeland. it's a question of what our involvement is as the united states or the u.k. involvement. that's a question. and what it should come down to you, is this a war we want our children to fight in? you are a father. is this -- >> brian: we don't have to come in that sulfite done my point of it. they're fighting like warriors. >> i understand, i've heard all the arguments against it. i would liken it to this. when there's a bully on the school playground and they're going around just bullying people, punching them in the face and getting what they want and taking anything they want from the people in the school, eventually you need someone who has the guts to stand up and punch the bully in the face. the beauty of this position in terms of strategy is america doesn't have to put boots on the ground, nor do the brits. it's a very different situation. we just have to give zelenskyy

in kyiv and president biden has left ukraine after making a surprise visit to that country earlier this morning. >> brian: met with president zelenskyy in the capital city. >> lisa: steve harrigan is live with the latest. steve? >> good morning, guys. president biden has come and gone. he spent over four hours on the ground here. his first stop was meeting with president zelenskyy in the presidential palace. later he went to st. michael's monastery behind me, and the two men walked in for a while. as they came out, air raid sirens were sounded throughout the city of kyiv. kyiv has been hit a number of times by rocket attacks. this air raid siren might have been set off by a russian fighter jet taking off from belarus. the white house has said that russia was informed about this visit beforehand. president biden announced $500 million in additional military aid for ukraine, and he said russia's president putin one year ago was wrong. wrong about nato, and wrong about ukraine. here's president biden. >> he's just been plain wrong.

>> a couple of them are on the edges of town. these dollar stores don't just serve the city of olive hill. they serve the entire western end of carter county. we have four family dollars that i'm aware of. they feel dumb i fill a niche that was left on the big box stores drove out all of our local mom-and-pops. it used to be there was a family owned store where people would run to get their bread and milk, and now those aren't there anymore. dollar general fills that niche. >> steve: sure. if there are $6 stores, people must be going there. that would squeeze out the mom-and-pop businesses, ultimately. but what about the variety? i was reading that, unlike grocery stores or local stores that might sell local stuff, the dollar stores have canned stuff and it may not be as healthy as some of the other things, from a

locally owned produce kind of business. >> they have some produce in a few of the dollar general stores. that produces the same tract in produce you will find at the save-a-lot, or if you go downtown to kroger. it's not the fresh local produce you'll find at the farmers' market in season, which is where a lot of folks buy a lot of their stuff when it's available. >> steve: absolutely. what you think the moral of the story is to people looking in on how your little town wound up with $6 stories six dollar stories?>> if you had business knew you that you can support, shop local. do what you can to support those people that have the dollars recirculating in your community, that employ people locally, that the money doesn't go out of your community. i think that's the moral of the story. and i'm not anti-dollar general, but i would preferred that each

i'll stop now. >> as nascar's decision as to where those two cars were when the button was pushed to activate the caution, and ricky stenhouse has win the daytona 500. >> brian: there you go. there was a big accident at the end, and stenhouse is the winner. and the decision to jump into his crew's arms, when was that decision made? let's find out. let's go to ricky stenhouse jr. now, who's got to be one happy man. first off, congratulations. number two, when did you realize you're going to to jump into their arms connected they know you are coming? >> thank you. good morning, everyone. i had no clue, that was just spur of the moment. i was on top of the car jumping up and down, just excited to see all my guys around the car. i knew they were strong enough if i just jumped that they would catch me and not let me hit the ground. [laughs] that was kind of spur of the

moment, and we are supposed to climb the fence, and after the interview they were gone, they were already waiting in victory lane, so i climbed the fence by myself. >> brian: nice. what has been like? for his win since 2017. now obviously qualify for the playoffs already in week one. can you put it in perspective? >> it's the biggest win of my career, and for us in this race team, we have worked really hard. i've been here since 2020, and i feel like we've had a lot of ups and downs. a lot of bright moments throughout each season where we feel like we have kind of got everything figured out, and then it just kind of seemed like we weren't able to maintain that pace. we have put a lot of work in this off-season. we've got a lot of great racetracks coming up for us here at the beginning of the season that we are excited to get to you. we are going to enjoy the st daytona 500 win. you only get one shot at this race in our sport, and there are so many other drivers that have

won championships, accomplished so many things in this sport, and never got a daytona 500 victory. so that doesn't go unnoticed by myself for this race team. >> brian: wanted you realize you had a legitimate shot at this? towards the end, everyone thought they were in the mix, you didn't know how this was going to come out. when did you realize that you could take this thing? >> you never really know when it comes to speedway racing, especially the daytona 500. last year i felt like i had a great shot at it, and we got crash leading the five laps to go. so at the end of stage two we were up front, battling for the win, and i think we ended up third in that stage. i felt really good and comfortable with my race car and felt like we had the speed to get the job done, and then when we restarted in sixth, kyle larson, my buddy, was pushing me down the backstretch. we cleared the 22 of joey lugano, and the caution came

out. i felt really comfortable in that position of leading the race on a green-white checkered, and we made all the right moves to make it happen, and the caution came out at the perfect time for us when we were leading. >> brian: it is so good to see everybody back in the stands, pandemic over, things seem back to normal. we hope this becomes the norm, with you winning. congratulations, ricky. i hope you had a great night. we hope to catch up with you along the way. >> i'd love to do this more often. it feels good for everything to be back to normal here. the daytona 500, record crowd. the eighth sellout, i believe, straight, and the most people in the infield since like 2005, which was really cool. the 75th year of nascar starting, and we are daytona 500 champions. couldn't get much better than that. our team was on it this weekend and we look forward to the rest
