thursday, you start to think about interior new england and mid-atlantic still more big rainstorms, possibly some severe. low pressure system moving across the country. where is it snow and rain? hear everything you are saying in pink colors and the northern plains and northern portion of the midwest and interior new england, if you live across the southern midwest or back across the plains, this is a rain maker, thunderstorms at times that could be severe. if you are in some areas, we're talking about potentially blizzard-like conditions, winds 30 to 40 miles per hour. this could be a white out. this is a big system and a lot of folks will not see snow, there are areas where it is warm and we'll be talking about thunderstorms and isolated tornados. >> todd: we got lulled into that no winter this year. not so, this is real.

poland this morning comes one it 4hours after visit to ukrain. he says russia cannot be beaten in a military conflict. >> todd: general an anthony tata joins us now. great to is see you. i will read a few lines from the previous speech to get your action. he said we aren't fighting ukrainian people. ukraine has become hostage of the western masters. western elite are not trying to conceal their goals to inflict a strategic defeat to russia. they up tend to transform the local conflict into a global confrontation. your reaction to that rhetoric, general? >> yeah. so, todd, great to be with you and ashley. you know, the fractured nato post afghanistan withdrawal led to this. nato nations are still not ponying up 2%. and we have got putin with his typically rhetoric of taking advantage, really of that

fracture. and i don't know if just breaking now putin announced that he is withdrawing from the strategic offensive reduction treaty. which the u.s. and russia agreed to 20 years ago. reduced to certain levels. that's huge news. i think it just broke during his speech here. so, the rhetoric is being amped up here. and we need to really seriously take a look at where we are posturing with nato, with respect to what putin is proposing. this speech is much more, i think, than rhetoric. i think that he is laying out a plan for moving forward with not only ukraine but emboldening himself against the west and nato. >> ashley: you know, when it comes to biden, he is expected to speak later this morning in poland. what are you expecting out of that speech from the president, especially after he made that secret trip to ukraine

beforehand? >> yeah. so, i have commanded polish troops in combat in kosovo. they are very good. i think the president being there is a good thing. and that we have rotational brigade combat teams that come into poland as a flexible deterrent option. i think if we are going to increase any number there. we need to get some concessions out of nato that they are going to pay their 2%. they will wean themselves off of russian gas and oil. putin in a speech mentioned that their economy robust. only contracted by 2.2%. just now he said that in the speech when everybody was predicting that it would collapse given the sanctions and so forth. so we are not seeing the kind of effect that we would want to see on russia that has invaded ukraine. and so we need to, from a military standpoint, make sure that we are emboldening nato and beefing them up.

the marshal plan. we have a strategic vital interest in europe to maintain peace and stability there for economic reasons and many other reasons. and so the marshal plan must continue, and i think the president is going to talk about how we are going to work tighter with poland and other nato nations to make sure that we deter the russian threat. >> todd: okay, general, so we have the united states increasing its support to ukraine. you have vladimir putin moments ago basically saying there is going to be potentially a global conflict. at least that's what the west wants. and then you have china increasing its support to russia. where does all this lead? >> yeah. so it's a really dicey time, todd. the -- when you think of all the mmachinations going on three nuclear waters going on, it's problematic. one thing lacking from any of

this has been diplomacy. i was glad to see secretary blinken at least having a consideration for a change. it's been a year with china. and then now the president engaged in nato. and so i think that the administration is recognizing that ther their diplomatic effos have been rather weak anemic. the military cannot do everything. i think the secretary of defense and the dod have done a great job exercising flexible deterrent options and showing a strong nato and at the same time the economic sanctions have not worked the way that we might want them to. so, i think we need to increase diplomacy to tone down the rhetoric and make sure that we have transparency on all the conversations. this nuclear move by russia is a big deal. it is just breaking a minute or two ago. and it's a big deal. >> ashley: yeah. it really is of course be sure
