morning. >> brian: one thing that has not changed, ainsley, the biggest -- one of the biggest stories is in east palestine where it looks like the e.p.a. is going to take over the clean up effort and they are going to be charging the rail company for doing it and make sure that they pay out and there was a fear in town and can you understand it that once the media left so would the money, so would the attention and they would be left with nothing but the problems and health concerns. i guess yesterday the president the message got to the president of the united states. he called his e.p.a. administrator. he called senator brown. he called governor mike dewine, he called governor j shapiro. and suddenly is he very interested in how things are going. >> steve: absolutely is so what happened yesterday was after three weeks, after the derailment, the ended the official emergency phase of the derailment and now they have started the long-term remediation phase they are using

he said it's a slap in the face that he doesn't care about us. he said we found out he was going to ukraine and giving millions of dollars to the people there but not coming here to take care of us. that's exactly how they feel. they are just all worried. they are worried about the air quality and how this is going to effect them down the road and not able to sell their houses and that kind of thing. michael regan with the e.p.a. chief. he was with the governor, mike dwyer. he said the water is safe and they went to a lady's house. one of the residents' house, let's toast let's grab her glasses and drink this faucet water. watch this. >> did someone want to drink the water? >> absolutely. >> i will tell you, we believe in science. so we don't feel like we are being your guinea pig. we don't mind proving to you that the water is safe. >> i appreciate that. >> here is to you. >> thank you.

so much. >> brian: ainsley, the guy that's been there at least a week it looks like michael regan, he is at least interacting with people getting on the streets. i just don't buy what pete buttigieg is saying. when i go people. you show up and listen to people. if you choose to make it a photo op. can you make it a photo op. you could argue this is a photo op. but it's actually showing people hey, i'm the governor are i will drink it. e.p.a. director i will drink it. we can have a glass of water. to be truthful i don't really drink out of the faucet. i don't drink out of water fountains. i don't think most people do. i understand the symbolism. when the transportation secretary don't understand the impact it makes when you don't show up by just being able to account for yourself. see what you see. talk to the people firsthand, he shouldn't have the job. he said i do think that it's important to speak out about that. and i could have spoken out sooner. and i'm making sure i'm focused on the actions that is going to make a difference. then he went at it with marco rubio. because pete buttigieg

stockpile by 2035. and, steve, did peter pull the fire alarm this morning at the marriott? >> steve: he is staying one hotel away. i will call him. he will be live with us in about an hour and a half. weave will ask him. thank you. welcome back, lucas. >> brian: thanks, lucas. he was over in ohio for a while. looking at what is at stake, the president gave a speech seemed more like a rally where he basically did not call out china. the main story over the weekend was the secretary of state made clear to all five of his interviews that the big problem is and it's a warning to china, do not supply weapons to russia. instead, if the president really wanted to make news, china, do not supply weapons to china. instead they did announce additional sanctions on about 200 separate russians and they did say that they're gonna start sanctioning individual chinese companies that are breaking sanctions. they are going to meet with them before and say stop sending a lot of them are american chips. stop sending american technology

over to russia. and then if not, they are going to sanction them. the european union has new power lines to do the same thing to sanctions that make them a little bit more painful. bottom line is, as the "wall street journal" writes today, the quickest way to peace is to get a victory in russia. because if russia is able to survive and without more weapons from the u.s., they will. they will continue their devious ways in the region and continue to try to absorb countries. >> steve: the big question is how much of an impact with sanctions, any more sanctions have on russia. during his speech yesterday, vladimir putin talked about how, you know, despite what the west said, we were only knocked off of our g.d.p. by 2%. so he said, you know, the world can line up against us but we're tough. people in this country worrying about the rising cost of stuff we are sending over there. senator of utah mike lee was on

twitter last night very late and he tweeted after sending $113 billion to ukraine in 2022, why should the u.s. even consider sending more until every nato member has begun spending at least 2% of their g.d.p. on defense? and spend as least much of his g.d.p. on ukraine aid as the united states did in 2022? he had a second follow-up tweet that said we have made it too easy for europe to ride on our defense coat tails. this has made it very easy for european nations to embrace socialism while neglecting their own defense. and, ainsley, the whole point is we are paying a lot more than the rest of the world for what's going on over there. >> ainsley: yeah. he brings up an excellent point. why are we paying billions of dollars, so much of this and not expecting the same from our allies other countries that to protect ukraine. yesterday was interesting if you think about it. we started off our morning with vladimir putin talking, getting

the support of china as well. and then you have our president with the president of poland, supporting zelenskyy, the day before he was with zelenskyy and supporting ukraine. we're coming up friday on a year for that war. and we have got these two leaders, both sides up against each other and it's very scary when you hear what putin said yesterday about nuclear weapons and continuing to test nuclear weapons getting out of this treaty. what does that mean for all of us? today our president as lucas was mentioning going to meet with the leaders of the bucharest 9. think about how they must feel. these are the country just east of ukraine. they are so worried if vladimir putin comes into ukraine and takes ukraine he will continue to move on. that would mean all countries would get involved that are allies. that would mean the u.s. would get involved as well. what does that mean for us? does that mean world war iii, troops on the ground? very important for us to support ukraine and make sure vladimir putin doesn't take over that

territory. sean hannity interviewed mike pence on this. our former vice president. he talked about the strength that he and donald trump had as an administration and what they were able to publish. he also talks about the consequences of the current administration. and their weakness, listen. >> it's all evidence of failed leadership by the biden administration. at home and abroad. and unprovoked war of aggression now one year in the making in ukraine with russia. look, vladimir putin is responsible for the decisions that he made, but i have no doubt in my mind that the capitulation of this administration on nord stream 2. disastrous withdrawal from afghanistan set the environment where putin thought he could get away with that invasion in ukraine. >> ainsley: he also told sean i have been very close to putin, closer than i am to you right now, sean. i have looked him in the eye. if you think he is going to stop if he captures ukraine, you have

another thing coming. >> brian: that's why the president has got to give ukraine what they need to win. not just to survive because time is not on their side. evidently the one thing ukrainians don't want to hear, we will stay with you as long as it takes. why? because if they're able to stay as long as it takes, the ukrainians cannot outlast the russians. there is not enough ukrainians, they are more skilled. they have soldiers, but when they have casualties they don't have enough 500,000 to call up like the russians do that's why they got to win for the. the more it lasts the more it's on russia's side. >> steve: someone who has a different opinion on that is ron desantis. ron desantis was on this program a couple of days ago. and he dismissed the idea that russia poses a big threat to american allies. the governor said it's important to point out the fear of russia going into nato nations and all of that and steam rolling. that is not even close to hang.
