>> the u.s. announced another $2 billion in military aid for ukraine. among that aid will be a lot of artillery, especially ammunition for those himars and also drones as well. these switchblade drones, kamikaze drones. they drop from the sky and explode. they can take out a russian armored vehicle. the u.s. so far has given ukraine more than $50 billion in aid since the war started. and just as the u.s. and the g-7 are announcing new sanctions against russia, china is posing a peace plan of its own. that peace plan would call for a cease-fire and removing all sanctions from russia. it has been quiet so far today but nerves definitely on edge and a fox news poll just out says that now at least half of americans say they support ukraine-support from america for as long as it takes. that's been a phrase that president biden has been using we're with them for as long as it takes. americans divided about that phrase about 50/50, guys?

>> brian: steve, i know your unofficial poll. but what your thoughts are, i know there is great determination amongst ukrainian civilians as well as their soldiers, but is there a sense of optimism that come the spring they could begin pushing back the russians? >> you know, brian, they hear about advanced russian weapons coming in. these leopard 2 tanks. u.s. tanks, himars ammunition. they saw over the past six months how well their fighters did in the field. this was supposed to be a 3-day war that ended in their shame, defeat. that didn't happen. now they are getting more help so, yes, they are looking forward to a spring offensive. >> steve: let's see what happens. steve who has been at that post for more than a year. thank you very much. >> ainsley: thank you, steve. >> steve: also, there was a development this morning china time essentially china is calling for a cease-fire between russia and ukraine and for peace talks to begin.

the foreign ministry of china has released this 12-point plan of how essentially they can off ramp where we are right now. and when you think about it, obviously and we know that xi and putin are going to have a summit in the coming weeks or months. this would be great if it actually happened because china doesn't want putin going nuclear. they also don't want a failed state next door. so, for china, this would be a win-win. the big question is does putin realize, you know, the warning sign, the light is warning on his control panel over in russia and it's time to go. maybe china will help him do that. >> ainsley: several things dom mind here, too. general jack keane i was watching him and he said i don't like the phrase "as long as it takes" i don't want to tell vladimir putin we are going to be there as long as it takes. you saw that poll 50% of americans do want to stay as long as it takes. he just said don't tell putin our plan.

we shouldn't tell him that second thing that comes to mind when you look at steve harrigan out there. remember a year ago we have reporters out there, and there were blasts going off behind them. and steve at one point tells his photographer, can you pan left and tell them something just happened and see the smoke coming up through the air. we were worried about our reporters. we had some that was in an accident. >> steve: benjamin hall. >> ainsley: exactly. his photographer lost his life. to be out there and covering, this especially on the anniversary, i'm sure there's a little bit of fear, that first day everyone was nervous. and they were blowing up schools and houses. we heard stories of them stealing women and children. >> brian: they still are stealing children and putting them up for adoption. that's how evil these people are. the china 12-point plan is comical and stupid. the reason why there is no peace plan because the russians took 25% of the country and they want to make more. and if they stop now, they have been rewarded for this invasion. which is a precedent that will

didn't intentionally hurt either one of them. why does he use the word "intentionally"? you could say is he a lawyer. how the indictment is written. murder is intentional crime. but it is prefaced with i am sorry to mags and paul, all right? that means is he basically admitting to them, you know, i'm sorry i didn't intentionally do anything to hurt you. what he is doing there is brilliant. is he creating the premise for a down charge. that means even though is he charged with intentional murder, there is evidence when the defense goes into to have a discussion with the judge about what the jury will be charged, the defense will say we want manslaughter in there the judge will say there is no evidence of manslaughter. the defense will say yes, there is. >> ainsley: interesting. notice how yesterday in the trial he kept saying paw paw and that's what he called his son paul. he called maggie mags and i thought that is brilliant, too.

because he is now in the jury's mind thinking oh he is a sweet man. he has nicknames for his family members. he loved them. and he just had a drug addiction and he was doing wrong things and he is admitting it and is he saying he is sorry but he was so high on these drugs that maybe if he did do it he was high on drugs. it was not intentional. it causes confusion in the jurors' minds. then when you go say i'm going to put this man behind bars because he killed his wife and his son, they might think i don't know if he really did that or maybe he doesn't remember -- you know. it's causing -- a reasonable doubt. >> brian: yeah. i just saw -- there is two schools of thought. is he legitimately upset? yeah. is he upset that his lifestyle has changed that he is in the predicament he is or upset that his family members are dead? >> steve: here's the thing. ultimately it will come down to the jury. even if he is found not guilty. he will. he is expected to spend decades in prison for stealing from the clients because the prosecutor

was very effective. he said remember this case. and how much we have paid. i don't remember. well, you were paid -- your law firm was paid like 3 or $4 million. on top of that, you stole another million dollarsed from the person. >> ainsley: went through all these different personal injury cases one he said was a paraplegic and he said well, it was actually a quadriplegic that doesn't make him load gik. >> steve: this guy who says i didn't kill my family but i stole from all these people i lied to the cops and he stole felony a quadriplegic that the quadriplegic could use? very effective. >> ainsley: insurance plan after she died she died on heir property. and their family, her little boys they're grown now never saw any of that money. the millions that he got from the insurance plan. and also something interesting. he said yesterday that he and paul during the day they noticed the sun flowers were dead. they were going to have to plow those up. and they were riding all over the property together. and they were looking at all the

who would ever imagine a scene like that? almost like the movie world put that there. no, it's mother nature. and then to the north, guys, in portland, oregon, all those stranded vehicles as they got nearly a foot of snow. and then if we jet across the country to motorcycle, wisconsin, unfortunately, a parking garage flattened, caved in by the weight of the snow. just terrible scen scenarios frm these winter weather scenarios. and then how about all these power outages. here where i'm at in michigan over 700,000 people still without power. that's one out of 10 people in this state. over 50,000 out of power in california. and the state of illinois, land of lincoln, over 20,000. power trucks are rolling out here this morning, many have left this parking lot headed south to try and restore the power here in lansing, which is the capitol. we have more crews leaving. what a scene yesterday as the entire area was iced over here

a lot of it before he was 18. orange county florida sheriff john mena joins us now. sheriff, welcome, it's hard to imagine the horror and the reaction in the area since this shooting took place. what can we do about juveniles who are clearly on a route to being career criminals having their record expunged at 18? >> first, i again want to offer my condolences to all the victims and their families. >> steve: of course. >> it really has hit this community hard. you know, in that respect, our criminal justice system needs to be changed. here's an adult now but when he was a juvenile, committed several crimes and he really has not been held accountable. so what this has done, it's emboldened him and other juveniles and young adults hey, if you are arrested 19 times and nothing happens, there's no consequences. so, we're not holding these juveniles accountable. >> hey, sheriff, i'm concerned

about the mom. how is she doing? she is going to get out of the hospital i don't know if they have told her yet that her #-year-old child was killed. what are the circumstances there? she has h. just gotten home from school they walked in? >> so we are all trying to figure that out. you know at some point, keith moses entered that home and shot a 9-year-old little girl and shot her mother. we're still trying to figure out how he was acquainted with them, did he know them? and, you know, was he familiar with the house and that's all part of our investigation that we're trying to figure out. >> ainsley: how is the mom doing? >> you know, she lost her little girl, so. >> ainsley: she knows? >> she is devastated. we have victim advocates that are working with help them through this horrific tragedy. >> given what you have said, we're trying to figure out why

exactly he did it. it sound like he is not -- the suspect is not cooperating. not talking and i did hear a news report about that. and i saw the body cam video where he is down on the ground and your guys aren't hurting him and is he going they are killing me. they are killing me. i can't breathe. how cooperative is he or is he just sitting in the cell? >> he is extremely uncooperative. you saw the take down video when because he said he couldn't breathe, and he was injured, we did take him to the hospital. he fought with hospital staff. he fought with our deputies again at the hospital. completely uncooperative. when we took him to the sheriff's office to be interviewed he made it like he fell asleep and then he wouldn't talk to us. and then there was another struggle with our detectives where he had to -- very frustrating for us but mostly it's frustrating for the victims and their families what the
