to president clinton, matt bennett, ashley, matt, thank you for joining us. i hope it wasn't difficult to get in with the crazy snow flurry in washington. let's talk about the economy and inflation, fors persistent. inflation in america. food prices up 18% since president biden took office, overall 13% we are looking at, it is not good and the consumer prices rose again as well after the holidays here. so, you know, matt, this has to be the thorn for the white house every morning they wake up. >> well, a couple of things to keep in mind, other measures of the economy are incredibly good. lowest unemployment in 50 years. if people want jobs they can get jobs and we've just passed 3 enormous bills that are going to put more people to work with really good-paying jobs. the inflation reduction act, the chips act and the infrastructure bill are already creating really good paying jobs.
10:05 am
the whole world is suffering from inflation and it needs to come down but inflation is kind of like losing weight, you know, the first 15 pounds aren't that hard, the last is tougher. it's come down some and it's going to be difficult for the fed to keep, you know, ratcheting up the pressure to push it down but they have to be doing because people are suffering but i think we are heading in the right direction. aishah: jp diamond ce -- morgan jamie dimon saying we have tough times ahead. >> going back to your comments about the bills that have passed, $700 billion that the democrats passed for inflation reduction act obviously isn't working that well yet and i think that the president and the democrats hold that responsibility 100%. that was supposed to be what was pumping back into the economy but most people would argue that
10:06 am
pumping more money back into the economy is not the answer especially government money but i really think that the answer is that in regards to what you said at the beginning with the american people are who suffering the most. when you have egg prices at $4 at dozen an eggs and people don't know how the pay for groceries sun believable. aishah: i know that what you're saying the long-term picture might be good but what about them how, what about single mom in indiana that has to go grocery shopping later today? >> there's no doubt, it's tough out there. it's tough out in the world. much worse in europe than it is here. part because it's hangover from covid, lock downs and all the money that was pumped in both under trump and biden administrations to help us recover from that. the fed has responsibility for getting prices down.
10:07 am
there's not very much that the president can do -- >> aishah: do you think the fed has done enough? >> nnot yet, they have to keep going. aishah: china tensions are rising, of course, ukraine war goes on and on and on. here is general keith kellogg here who will testify, i think, i believe on capitol hill this week. here is his criticism. >> as much as it takes, as long as it takes as bumper sticker, president biden needs to get involved, maria, he hasn't picked up the phone and called vladimir putin. he could do that. i mean, trump would have done it in a heart beat. aishah: matt, i would come to you first, do you think the president is doing enough? >> the president went to kyiv last week. that's -- >> aishah: a year later. >> yes, but let's be clear, this is the most significant foreign policy visit by an american president since ronald reagan stood at the wall. he flew into a war zone not controlled by american troops
10:08 am
and made a very clear stand as the leader of the free world against the russians. ic he's doing a brilliant job of leading the west against this barbaric russian war. aishah: ashley, you think he should ring up putin? >> i don't think he's doing enough. i think there's a broader issue when you have a president of the free world which everyone watches what this country and this world to see what he's doing and made major mistakes. look at what happened in disastrous pullout in afghanistan. what happened with the china balloon that he let go across the country and we still don't have the answers of what happened and why and so when you have people like china and russia watching weak president from the united states on foreign policy, what do they have to lose? aishah: really quickly, ten seconds, on taiwan, do you think we should arm them to the teeth? >> the president has made clear
