provision of lethal equipment. we don't see that a final decision has been made yet and we don't see evidence of actual shipments of lethal equipment and that is why secretary blinken and the president thought it important to make clear what the consequences of that will be. rachel: anthony blinken will travel to central and south asia where he will meet with russian and chinese counterparts. they seem confident that china has already sent these weapons. i am not sure how they are so confident, but i am concerned that there are these stations and they haven't been shut down already. >> reporter: the fbi did go into a location in new york city but i spoke with congressman gallagher yesterday, he said he plans to introduce legislation that will give the fbi more resources to act more aggressively to combat this threat. republicans have been sounding the alarm about the china threat for months.

night. >> not going to sugarcoat it. the united states appears to be walking directly into world war iii, signs are everywhere. the pentagon is planning to send one hundred us troops to taiwan for training in the coming months. china's xi jinping planning a visit to moscow, i am sure they are not playing scrabble but tuten suspended participation in nuclear arms treaty with the united states and threatened to resume nuclear testing, sounds like a big deal, even worse china appears to be strengthening its support for russia. china will start supplying russia with lethal weapons in ukraine. will: how do we know we haven't already? there are reports. rachel: they haven't sent weapons to ukraine. will: you could use them for economic purposes or military purposes. i wonder what they are doing.

rachel: i don't trust the chinese with anything. pete: let's bring in legal correspondent shannon bream. rachel: good morning. pete: the cia is saying the us is confident china is considering, already providing lethal equipment to russia in ukraine. we heard dan bahngino say one step after another. >> they heard warnings about sending lethal aid and they may be don't care or what the us has to say, you know there was this a vote at the un on this resolution to condemn russia's invasion into ukraine, 32 nations that abstained, that includes china. they put out this piece plan as if they want to broker something, but there's plenty

of skepticism, what role china is playing here? pete: you talk policy and politics on your show, of where, as the presidential race unfolds on the republican side, where folks stand. there's a difference of opinion regarding china and ukraine on the republican primary side. >> a growing conversation about where our commitments the get and end with respect to ukraine. don't forget we hit the debt ceiling, using extraordinary measures to keep that going. the white house says no negotiation, there's got to be some kind of conversation about getting closer to that vote. where do you draw the line? leader mccarthy has a piece saying if the estimate is $200 billion in a year for this and we say as long as it takes,

is that one, 2, five, eight, ten years? we can have that conversation, but what are we willing to cut to make that happen? are we sending the bill to our kids and grandkids? they have to talk about that in the gop primary. there's a bit of daylight between folks who are in or we think will get in and that conversation on the debate stage. rachel: you talk to so many lawmakers in washington dc. do you hear any talk about our peace negotiation in congress that people need to bring this to a close so we don't see china and russia uniting as a force against us, or a end to this, focusing on problems domestically? >> there is a sense the only way this ends his if russia and ukraine decide it is over. ukraine wants all its territory back that it has taken from russia. russia wants to keep that and more. it is as if you can't reason

with vladimir putin with logic, sanctions, they don't seem to be touching him, and existential idea of wanting to unite the ussr and put the whole thing back together. that doesn't seem to be deterring him. the ukrainians aren't going anywhere. this is a generation, the mass amount of ukrainians alive now can know nothing but freedom. they are not going to back down. we've seen their tenacity, their courage, their willingness to sacrifice their own lives. unless somebody convince these two to get to the negotiating table it is basically the standoff at this point that will cost more lives and damage. rachel: they disrupted peace negotiations other countries tried to do. pete: you've written several books on your faith. we want your perspective on what is happening, colleges and universities across the nation, marathon prayer services. do you see what is taking place

with young people? what are your thoughts? >> i get so fired up, so excited about this. often change comes from young people who are inspired and feel like they are hearing from god, and everybody is searching for peace and contentment and they say we found it. his visitation, we had friends who went to asbury and said it is the real deal, not a surface, very quiet, very understated, no theatrics or pyrotechnics, their experience coming away from it is it was very genuine, it was happening in other college campuses, very positive. eric: they had to pause it, they move to other places as well. we had madison pruitt trout, a former bachelor contestant. i asked about what is happening with young people. here's what she said.

>> truly remarkable. this is something i have prayed for for this nation and this world for so long, to witness it and be part of it, in such a small way, is unbelievable. it fires me up for this generation. we are seeing young people hungry, searching for so long for something to satisfy, we are coming to the realization that jesus is the only one that can satisfy. seeking him, praying for him, fasting, helping themselves. will: you lose a lot of faith if you look to washington dc, the nursing home, the house and senate, for the solution to your problems, young people are saying there's something more meaningful in my life, a lot bigger than that. >> they want authenticity, they want hope. everybody wants to feel loved and that is what god offers, unconditional, he's not a politician, not republican or

now we turn to a few additional headlines on this sunday. the epa is ordering norfolk southern to stop cleaning up toxic waste in east palestine, ohio. originally the rail company was responsible for the cleanup effort. now the epa is reviewing where the waste will be taken after other states complained they were getting toxic trash. >> the agency is yet to say when cleanup will continue. meanwhile, there are still one hundred 2,000 gallons of liquid waste and over 4000 yd. of solid waste on site. is the news moves on the cleanup continues. there is still a lot of it. a family in portland, oregon, say they are being terrorized by homeless squatters who are setting fires and committing crimes in the neighborhood. a neighbor who served in vietnam said he felt safer at war.

pete: university of north carolina taking a stand against woke culture by ditching diversity, equity, and inclusion statements from hiring, admission, and promotion. lieutenant governor mark robinson, thanks for being with us. tell us about this movement? tell me how unc was using di policies before this change. >> i don't know. i'm not intimate with the inner workings of the university. i know from an overhead view. what i see is conservative voices, folks who don't go along with the status quo, pushback against the status quo, the agenda of the status quo by and large those evil have been pushed aside, their

voices are not met with a friendly response and in some cases pushed out completely. pete: i can speak for myself, i can't speak for others, but i think a lot of people, merit drive away, no one's opposition to the concept of diversity, it is hoping for race neutral policies instead of race conscious policies. what i have seen personally, for example, instead of texas, anytime there is an attempt to move back towards merit and away from race, there are new policies put in place to work around that. is this, what i'm here to ask you, do you think this move will be something that can push the system back towards race neutrality? or will they find new ways to focus on race? >> i believe that is coming

back but this -- if folks in these positions are mature and committed to the ideal of diversity and inclusion they would include everybody, voices that encounter their own narrative, their own beliefs. they don't. i can prove that buying one statement. i'm a strong conservatives, i've said may be controversial things, but still, i am the first black lieutenant governor of north carolina. i check all the boxes of the left, i was poor, black, overcame those things. only a scant few of these universities invited me to their campuses to tour the campus, very few promote the fact that i was able to overcome those odds and become the first black lieutenant governor. they don't live up to their own standards. pete: a fascinating personal testimony. where did you go to college? >> i started at the university

nancy, i want to know what are the take aways of what you watch? >> his textbook example of why you do not take the stand, he underwent two full days of cross-examination, painted as a liar at every turn. he started lying to police immediately and in his first statement started lying about that crucial time period his wife and son were shot and if he's not the killer, how did he know to lie about that 5 minute block of time. he knew because he is the killer would be my argument. pete: how do you explain the new piece of data, the voice from his son's phone that places him at the kennel in that time period? did they not know that evidence existed until then?

>> he didn't know what at the time he gave three convicting statements, almost immediately they were caught on body cam or interview cam. he didn't know it then. after that, when discoveries were exchanged they found out, it is too late, he was married his original statements. at the time the video was taken in the kennel for a friend, he had no idea his voice was caught on that video. pete: what is your prediction? only one juror would have to have reasonable doubt? >> i've got a problem. i heard through the grapevine, two jurors were crying during his testimony but felt better when i found out that wasn't true until i was corrected. one of the jurors handed him a box of kleenex. that's probably not good for the state but that was before the two days of steering cross exam. i don't see how they can accept

repentance on asbury college. here's the problem, here's the solution. it was a parallel time when this story was happening. it was called the jesus revolution. rachel: it feels like the timing is interesting, that god's hand might have been on that. tell me about how you feel about having a movie with this kind of spiritual theme coming out at a moment where the culture is very secular, as you know. what do you hope to come of this? >> it is such a similar time when i read the time magazine cover story the jesus revolution and i was like such a boy, a hopeful article. it is a similar time. we are desperate again. i wanted to make a movie that

filled people with hope. it was enjoyable to watch and entertaining. i love to entertain audiences. my favorite films watch with an audience i ever made. i'm grateful. it comes at a great moment in time, interesting moment in time. i live in nashville. it is -- we sat there and listened to these college kids talk. i was filled with hope. if it happened before, it can happen again. the way they spoke was so filled with optimism and spiritual hunger. my hope for the movie is people will see it and it will become a conversation. rachel: young people are drawn to it but movie critics can be tough and they have been kind to this film. last thoughts on this and what you hope to come from this. >> i am hearing stories the people going to this movie theater, people commented on my social media, i wept, i laughed, we cheered at the end,
