go to the grocery store right now? >> there is a little bit of confusion when you walk in and see something you are not used to. you try to get a sense of what is going on. all eyes are on you with security guards. and so some confusion, but you know, i think in the long run, it is good. people will be used to it. it is a plus, a positive thing for the community and for the store. >> todd: interesting, because at the end of the day, you want to be safe above all else. and you don't want to be in a situation where criminals feel like they can run free. so i understand your point there but my overall point why is the law-abiding citizen have to change their behavior? why doesn't california arrest and prosecute shoplifters who were causing stores like this safe way to enact these measures and forced customers like you to have to deal with them? >> that is the sign of the times. things are changing.

you can look back, for example, misdemeanors for shoplifting crimes. anything below $950. so, i think that has a lot to do with it. and coming to these types of calls has frequent have a lot to do with it. so, we are seeing the backlash of what is going on i believe. >> ashley: it sounds like you absolutely support this. this has went on forever and you would be okay with it especially when you see the uptick in crime in your area. you were talking about security guards when you walked in. are they armed? off-duty police officers? do you know? do they look like they would deter crime? >> i didn't notice if they were armed with any weapons. but just having their presence there is a deterrent for the

robbers and would be shoplifters. i did speak with a couple of employees, and they were all for the system in place. and the store manager as well told me she has seen a drop. >> todd: as for the people armed, the police officers, a lot of the uptick in shoplifting really took off following the summer of 2020, defund the police movement really taking effect, taking hold. if there were cops on the streets in general and the communities and defunded the way they have been over the course of the last three years, they would be able to go after shop lifters like this so some of this wouldn't be necessary come again understanding it is necessary in light of the current situation? >> well the funding, if there is not enough money to hire police officers, that is the issue. we went all right, you are doing

mr. murdaugh taking the stand did it hurt him getting off of these charges or help? >> i think it hurt him and helped him. because he gets up and says, "i've lied about all of these things." it paints the picture the prosecutor wanted to paint that it was a perfect storm and coming to a screeching halt and being revealed. but on the other hand him testifying was something that i believe the jurors wanted to hear from the defendant. he had to take the stand in order to explain why he did not tell the truth about being at the kennels during that instagram kennel video. >> todd: i admitted to all these lies, but the one thing and not admitting to his killing my family. obviously, that is the strategy and we will see if it works out. that is the defense approach. the prosecution approached him they focused on motive and the
