have the next year. we are a coalition party. you will see a lot of changes in the polls over the next year. you will see changes once the contest starts and these candidates start to get momentum one way or another. >> jonathan: different cpac this time around. we normally see pretty much every one of the major candidates going clearly ron desantis is a big absence from cpac. what message is he sending by not being there? >> i think each one of these candidates is going to have to make the decisions on what is the best use of their time and here in california, get governor ron desantis here in the reagan library. we are excited about that this weekend. >> jonathan: do you think he is as it seems the biggest challenger to donald trump? >> i think it is still really early. all of these numbers will change. we have seen that in many elections. front runners, the frontrunner status, changes and we don't even have the whole wheel yet.
9:08 pm
>> jonathan: quickly, on this climate change that we saw to today, your reaction to the climate change above energy security it would appear. >> no one should be surprised by this. this is the one campaign promise that joe biden has actually lived up to it since day one. he shut down keystone pipeline with the 11,000 jobs that went with that. we have seen here in california our gas is $1.50 more expensive since the day that biden took office. this should not surprise anybody and the criticism that he is receiving bipartisan lead should not surprise anyone either. people are hurting. >> jonathan: jessica millan patterson, chair of the gop. i'm sure i'm sure it is going to be a fascinating 18 months. >> thanks for having me. >> jonathan: thanks for being here. >> translator: i think the village needs to be a respect i think the state of israel should do it. heaven forbid not private individuals.

middle east peace, a huge priority obviously for his predecessor. let's discuss what is happening and why was the director of ucla's center for israel stu studies. professor the pleasure to have you here tonight. we talked about what seems the middle east, the israeli-palestinian situation is always on the knife edge. but this is a different. the last couple of weeks have seen this exposure to violence in the west bank. what exactly is going on and how concerned should the world be? >> i think it is very concerning. it is true that the west bank is always a tinderbox. there's always a low level of violence. what has been taking place, really to the past year, this escalation began about a year ago and it has continued under both the current israeli government and the previous israeli government. in many ways, palestinian authority is unable to control key parts of the west bank particularly the palestinians.
9:11 pm
in those areas, many of the attacks that have taken place have been plant in those areas. they have been operating in those areas and the israeli army is going into trying to capture. >> jonathan: then you get this tit-for-tat violence between palestinians and israeli settlers. how do you put a lid on this now to stop it becoming too much, much worse? >> i think biden administration is trying to encourage the palestinian authority to actually go in to these areas to try to arrest the militants, a very young men, they don't respect the palestinian authority and are active on their own. but they are trying to do it. the problem is the palestinian authority has no legitimacy. it really does not have the ability certainly does not have the will to do that and motor. so it really is up to israel and
9:12 pm
unfortunately, although the israelis are very effective in intelligence gathering, it is almost impossible to prevent these kinds of attacks, particularly because israelis and palestinians are so close together. >> jonathan: on the biden administration, i just want to read a letter from senator welch which was sent to president biden which said in part today, we have a choice extent by passively as a withered two state approach recedes into oblivion or do our best to re-energize it with more assertive efforts. any hope for peace and prosperity in the region depends on the united states making the right choice right now. but the biden administration seems to make the choice not to get involved in any major way which is unusual. >> well, i think they made a choice from the onset not to try to resurrect the peace process. and in many ways, they set the bar much lower than their predecessors. they did try to reach a peace agreement. the biden administration i think correctly assessed at the there was not any real prospect for a
9:13 pm
successful peace process and did not try to do that or they have tried to work quietly behind the scenes to maintain calm and maintain the status quo. those efforts are clearly not succeeding. >> jonathan: it does not seem to be working. we will see how this goes. thank you, professor, great to have with. president biden will not veto a congressional bill that blocks the district of columbia's criminal code overhaul. it is a decision that has caught some of his democratic allies by surprise. here is congressional correspondent chad. >> reporter: even liberals in the nation's capital went too far for president biden. the president ditched progressives as they went soft on crime. >> this is a president that believes in keeping communities safe. he is going to make a decision that will help the residents of dc. >> reporter: mr. biden sparked a firestorm catching liberals by surprise. >> i have not talked to him. i don't think he wants to talk to me about it.

the question to you guys, would you give up a window or aisle if it meant a family could sit together? eric, you were the nicest family man and maybe just the nicest man i know. what you do it? >> officially i was going to say yes absolutely but then i realized it was a middle seat and the answer is no. if it were an aisle seat or a window, i would. i'm going to need some money. >> jonathan: i was looking at this window. she is in business class. there's no middle seats. what she means is she was just going to the middle section. you are still next to an aisle. she seemed like a spoiled little influencer to me. >> you know what? they get attention. they are a little spoiled. i would say i would not switch seats especially if i'm uncomfortable with what i'm sitting next to. what if i end up sitting next to someone who won't stop talking or they take their shoes off? i don't know. >> jonathan: nasty. michelle, i don't know how you

top that. are you a seat switcher? >> it all depends on how long the flight is. if it is a long flight, i will switch seats. if it is middle, no. >> jonathan: talking of lovely people, anita, you are someone who i feel like would switch, or whatever the imposition was on you. prove me wrong. >> are probably would do but i would do it regretting it and really hating that i was sitting in the middle seat. you know, jonathan, you have kids. how many times do you have to ask people to move so you can sit together because the plane, they change aircraft. all the seats get messed up and you get separated from your kids. yes, i would probably do it. >> jonathan: honestly, it would -- when i fly with my kids, i booked them 28 rows behind me. kevin corke, did your family of 10 children, i think it was, all sit together on flights?
9:54 pm
>> no. i was going to say never ever ever. it was always two over there, three in the back. i fly a lot by myself and so i routinely would give up my seat and sit in the middle just because i believe in karma and i think, you know what, pay it forward and i have, like, the best of luck. that is why i do it. >> jonathan: let's look at a couple of responses we got on social media. bret holmes says if i have an aisle seat, i am not moving. i hope i'm pronouncing this name quickly. it is unreasonable to expect someone to switch seats if they paid for their reserve seats. the family will be fine. they should use this as an opportunity to plan their travels further in advance next time. i picked the seat i want so i'm not switching. plan in advance or accept the consequences. tough crowd here, michelle. >> i'm staying away from them. >> there you go. >> book in advance. >> jonathan: you are right. and get the seat you pay for.
