resolved, what's next for these cases? here now to discuss former nypd inspector paul morrow criminal defense attorney mark and crime scene analysis cheryl. thanks so much for join the program paul you've been covering this from the very beginning let's get your reaction to the end because i have to tell you i thought that the defense put up a good fight. but we're learning from testimony from the jury now that this is all over -- they weren't buying any of it. >> no they weren't and you know i think really we can point to one dispositive moment in the trial, i mean, there were many. but i think the real linchpin was the fact that yeah we all know he was a liar he admitted to being a liar lied to his family law partners but remember this lj during the trial the inception of the trial his defense was alleging that he was nowhere near the scene that the timeline was going to favor him because of his visit to his

mother for allegedly 40 minutes not 20 minutes okay that was what they were putting out. then we get the testimony related to the video that was on paul's phone. where people who know him and no uncertain term said that is alex's voice guy was there now the defense had to call audible and put him on the stand where he essentially had to cop to that say that is my voice i was lying to law enforcement why is that matter so much. so it was at the scene that's a lie that developed during the trial. the jury had to be it ising there saying you were saying a at the beginning you change horses midstream as judge himself said, and that borders on insulting i know judge seem to be insulted so if you're sit wring jury is you have to say 50*eu78 i'm not buying anything that the jury is saying. >> your expertise the defense wanted to nail the crime scene introduce two shooters talking about the preservation of the crime scene.
7:05 pm
the jury didn't buy that eaters. common sense plays role here if there were two shooters maggie would have never been able to run distance that she did away from that scene. the second shooter would have shots her simultaneously when paul was shot and that's not what happened here. so the jury wasn't buying any of his lies. lawrence: i want to play this side to talk about the mishandling of the evidence. let's play it. >> did that entrance get blocked off? >> no. people just kept piling in. i mean, it just -- i mean, it was a just more and more people kept showing up. >> she said someone 30 to 40 minutes that's what he said. >> y'all can imagine what i experience and not been cleaned up i saw blood, brains, i saw pieces of skull i thought television mine.

something that i needed to do for paul to clean it up. >> i felt like confused at first and then i know what he was wearing the day he left the house. and i -- was basically confused i didn't really know where he was trying to get me to say that that -- if i was to be asked that if that was the shirt he was wearing. mark is he going to use this for his appeal? >> well let me be quite frank about the appeal. he's got little chance on appeal as it stands right now. if, in fact, he finds something or they find something dick or jim find something two lawyers who tried -- about juror misconduct if something that relates to the juror who was kicked off or something that was brought in to

deliberations even though it was one of a fastest deliberations i've ever seen in a case of that length. i mean 40 -- you know they took about three and a half hours but if youen will to jurors they have their vote their second vote after 45 minutes. they need to find something else because otherwise once he took the stand once he admitted to a host of the financial crimes and by the way, normally that would be the appeal which was that the judge committed air by letting in financial crimes. when he had to take the stand. but i don't think he's going get very far because he conceded all of that stuff he needs something outside of the record and as of yets they don't have it. >> going to be a real hail mary toipght get to cases because one thing disturbing as i review more and more of the evidence that's out there. you know it is clear this family was connected to the local community. they have a heavy hand in law enforcement. but it seems like a lot of
7:08 pm
things law enforcement broke some of the rules because they were so connected with this family. allowing them in an active crime scene -- what do you think about that putting your law enforcement hat on now? >> well, i mean, you look these are going to be cold cases right and they're going to be quite tough boating distinct criminal case it off the table because accused in that instance is paul and, obviously, he's deceased. the civil case survives buster named in caption of that case as is alex murdaugh himself that case is alive other two are cold cases they're tough. i think according to the reporting and you know we're getting into what's true and what's not smith case might have a little more purchase even though it is an older case because there are some allegations floating around that more than one person was involved. and what that means is you're not reliant upon forensics. the difficulty in the satherfelt case everybody at the scene is also deceased. that is maggie, paul, and so if

you're looking for smob who essentially is going to flip and give you real purchase to go for an indictment you need somebody who is going to step up here and somebody you have some leverage on. so hopefully they develop enough to put heat on somebody and develop something. >> real quick because i have 20 seconds what can they get to zoom that body is there a lot of evidence that's still there that they can use? >> absolutely. when you're talking about blunt force trauma to head and talking ab case with a coroner never called, and autopsy wasn't done properly especially in the satherfield they'll look at everything they rmpled a tractor-trailer could have hit him and is the height correct and possible where injury was that -- tractor trailer side mirror could have even hit him and where are the other injuries and does that line up from him being hit in the concrete. it is going to be very doubtful. >> wow thanks so much for

on one hand you have paul, used to be head of the chicago public schools, he was the top vote earn in tuesday race and he's running on a law and order platform promising to hire hundreds of cop. but on the other hand you've got cook county commissioner brandon johnson he's back by the teachers union and tax the rich even though business is leaving and school is a felon and refer to defunctioned police as his political goal. even though scrim out of control. pundants predict a runoff and someone further to left than lightfoot will take control and republican would have a hard time winning in chicago but gop is constantly condemning the fall of our country once great city. so why did anyone decide to run in the race? my vote for chicago is find a leader who can right ship and

7:15 pm
crime is a people issue. when people are afraid they vote differently so this is a good sign. lawrence: so zaire rei we've been friends for a long time. and you hear -- we have these conversations, and we talk about republican outreach i just don't understand how no republican i understand it is a tough race but you've got connect with the voters and not one republican in the race i just don't get that. >> yeah i don't get it either i think this is one of our greatest parelles and i hope it doesn't stay this way. i think what's very important is we have to understand that people across this country no but no one they know when they can believe in someone that's a leader that someone will take control and help them and help their communities. and the republican party as much as it talks really hasn't been there. we saw it more under president trump with leadership growing, and i think we're going to start seeing that more in the coming years we have more hispanic
7:16 pm
leaders but i think this is a grassroots effort and i think stacey is right we have to have leaders within these communities that are willing to stand up and say we're not going to take this anymore we see that with mayor cantrell people should not have to walk kids home to be stepping over people on the streets or needles or trash in their communities and i think eventually what happens is there is a backlash. people stand up they vote people out of office. they need lawmakers that will believe in them and not only do i agree with stacey but i agree with you lawrence you and i have talked about this for a long time the republican party will not win unless it moves forward takes charge, and says look we're never going to be leaving your community. we're here for you. we believe in you. we believe in small business, we believe in you and we will stay with you. if we can't do that we will not see the conservative party make headway it needs to make in communities in big cities like chicago, in new orleans which is one of my favorite cities in the
7:17 pm
world. >> stay city what do you think needs to happen? >> first off, i think the gop could just campaign year round and i understand -- there's fund raising issue right but when we want something we make it happen if the gop really wants to make in roads in the city it is needs to be a year round campaign and door knocking informational campaign, and it has to be something where leaders are plugged into communities. here in missouri we have seen people run statewide and actually go into the black community in north county here in thriewtion and really make inroads by showing up at churches talking at work places going and being seen in the neighborhood and getting to know business own rs and through that work they have -- it was our last lieutenant governor i think three cycles ago he was continually reelected and had a huge black vote because that's the way he behaved he treated black community like a viable voting bloc and it is transactional as you know you should be getting
7:18 pm
something and if it is poor schools, crime, drugs a lot of drug dealing we see a lot of that in poor communities. then you should be looking for someone who will give you something for your volt instead of telling you that you're a victim that racism is the real cause of all of your problems. democrats have rocked this carnage on poor areas now bringing to suburbs and major cities and it's got to stop. >> got to end we deserve better and i think having leaders like you pushing party to do right thing will get that changed thanks so much for joining me stacey will make debut on outnumbers joining me next wednesday. pan out millions of dollars to blm protesters who took the streets in 2020.

police officers are wrong for something they were indeed trained to do is one of the questions i think a lot of new yorkers i mean i should say five borough new yorkers will ask themselves about this payout which also includes two and a half million dollars in legal fee. lawrence: you know what's crazy david, i covered the protest all across the country, new york specifically. i think i was living in new york at the time. the cops here gave them free-range. they stepped back and let them burn the buildings they -- they let them shut down bridges and do everything. so how they could find a lawsuit after that, again, if there was any type of -- illegal action taking place, of course, they should be condemn but a lot of times they were the crowds you didn't know who was throwing the rocks or anything and so they were detain the entire group until they can sort it out what's your take on this? >> well let's take tony's points and then take the what's missing approach. officers have not been charged to the best of my knowledge an i've done digging on this

back to that restaurant because on 104 dollar check $10 is a tip do you understand me, go now i'm not asking i'm telling. but you don't know how to tip. that's mamma jones own steroid. joe, i mean, we talk about bad ass kids that's a good parent right there. that's a good parent and maybe she was a waitress at one point lawrence as a former waiter at friendlies of all places where -- tips are where you western earn most of your money if my kids left 10% i would drive them back to the restaurant too. that's great service. 18% standard, 15% very average. but a 10% tip means basically you're saying you suck and i hate you. you might as well not leave anything at all lj.

>> there has to be rule educate me on this. is there ever appropriate time to give a 10% tip or always 20% standard even if the service is bad maybe they have a bad day. do you still give them 20%? 20 is easier thing right a $50 tab for example just multiply by 2 and you're home $50 means 10 dollar tip but yeah, restaurants have struggled so badly particularly during koafdz and after somebody closed, so even if everything wasn't perfect in your mind and we're a spoiled society let's face it. leave the 20% make it easy. help these people, even if you think it wasn't very good. as a waiter i'm biased but that's the way it went for me anyway. lawrence: was this a great parenting moment guide your kid and also giving them public embarrassment as well? >> yeah i think you learn by doing and i teach my kids 9 and

7 not waiters yet in high school type of thing but i always teach theme you learn by making mistakes. right, so in this case, yes. i think -- to actually act in this situation and say you know what you're going to go down there and give a better tip thing the end you never want to be the guy who doesn't tip well. just tip well regardless of how the service was. and you won't have that reputation of being -- cheap. you never want to be that person in the end right lawrence? lawrence: that's exactly right so joe as i said before, we highlight these kids going wild all of the time. teenagers -- even young ones in elementary school, and i always talk about it seems that -- they don't have the mom and dad that i grew up with because they would lose it on them. is this the move, the public embarrassment from the parents? >> well, i mean, i think so -- maybe you could talk to them

privately and say don't do that again. but in the end, i guess if you actually have to go through that public embarrassment of going down there and saying okay, i only left you $10 here's 20. maybe you'll always remember that moment we're talking it on national tv. so perhaps that will work in this situation. >> mamma jones didn't have social media back then. but she would go down the street with her belt all the way down. so -- that's how momma did it. thanks joe. >> catch joe -- >> more generous but i hear you man. have a good night. >> big show 5 p.m. time. more cross country after the y break.ea don't go anywhere. i heard about the payroll tax refund that allowed us to keep the people that have been here taking care of us. learn more at getrefunds.com.
