china-center hearings to take place this week on capitol hill including a hearing on worldwide threat. congress is laser focused on china this week. >> harris: i'm about to add another thing they can be working on and i will hit james comer with it. republican congressman. aishah, thank you very much. the congressman from the great state of kentucky and he is the chairman of the house oversight committee. great to have you today. i will just read a little bit of this. the "wall street journal" coming forth with this. u.s. officials are growing concerned that giant chinese-made cranes operating at american ports across america, including at several used by the military, could give beijing a possible spying tool hiding in plain sight. national security and pentagon officials are looking at cranes made by a china-based manufacturer to a trojan horse. tell me what we're facing potentially there and what port
8:05 am
operates without a giant crane? >> every port has cranes. i have ports along the mississippi river in my district that have some of those big cranes. look, we are learning every day the extent of the china spy ring right here in the united states. china has gotten away with too much for too long. i have think now there is bipartisan agreement within the congress that the united states needs to identify every single facet of the chinese spy ring in america from tiktok now to what we're reading in the "wall street journal" about the cranes. we need to focus 100% of our efforts trying to not only ban those products but make sure we are providing some type of manufacturing replacement in the united states of america. it is very frustrating that the president continues to turn a blind eye to china because they are without a doubt our biggest threat right now. >> harris: hearing you say manufacture replacement for what they are putting here. here would be a reason with
8:06 am
these cranes. they are compareably well made. great reporting here. inexpensive. however, they contain sophisticated cran sores to register and track the destination of containers. they know exact will i what we're bringing in even if we don't want them to know what's in the containers. last thought and we'll move forward. >> they could be monitoring any shipment of arms. this administration is wanting to provide all sorts of military equipment to ukraine. what would be the possibility that china has these sensors on the cranes that know what we're doing and alert russia? this has national security risks. we don't know if china has the ability to flip a switch and make those cranes inoperable. that was also a concern from reports from the pentagon about base being semi conductors used on parts of military equipment
8:07 am
within the federal government. the pentagon i think is taking the china risk seriously for a long time. we need to spread this out throughout all of chinese-made goods that have the potential to be used in their extensive spy rings here in america. >> harris: i appreciate you breaking that down. it is brand-new and another thing that many people across the country, you mentioned your great state with its ports. we see them in new york and new jersey and there is a whole lot they can do by watching us. that we know. i want to get to this. a brand-new op-ed from former speaker of the house newt gingrich says the biggest scandal in american history references a february 2020 phone call that you actually chairman comer pointed out that included dr. fauci and dr. collins and they were first warned that covid-19 might have leaked from
8:08 am
a lab. gingrich writes the same experts paid by the american people and given tens of billions to invest in research decided they would deliberately mislead the american people. this perfectly captures the arrogance of the bureaucrat who believes three intellectually and morally superior to the people they are supposed to be accountable. your reaction. >> as usual, newt gingrich is right. i think one reason the government is finally admitting that covid originated in the lab in wuhan is because of the work we've done on the oversight committee and select committee with respect to identifying not only those people that were on the phone call, but any government employee that had anything to do with the wuhan lab either in funding gain-of-function research to there. grants, whatever. we identified 40 employees, lower level employees that had some type of knowledge of what was going on in that wuhan lab
8:09 am
and told them we wanted them to come for interviews and also identified a long time ago before we flipped the house that phone call happened and all of dr. fauci's early pandemic advisors said it is a lab leak because that's what we're doing at the wuhan lab. we're researching covid viruses. obviously if it start evidence in wuhan, china, it started at the lab but dr. fauci had a conference call and from that point on they never emailed again and basically went along with everything dr. fauci said saying it was a conspiracy theory. remember, those same scientists were getting grant dollars from government agencies that dr. fauci and dr. collins had a lot to do with. this isn't over just because the government has admitted that covid originated in wuhan lab. we need to hold people accountable for potential cover-ups and accountable for doing mad science projects.
8:10 am
we need to make sure there are no other projects like this happening around the world and stop it from happening in the future. >> harris: we have to lead on that. because i would imagine some of it happens in this country, too, right? we have a bio tech lab in nebraska. i'm not saying the world can't look at stuff but this is more than looking at things. gain of function is the next level. >> absolutely. this is what i've called from day one mad science. the sad part about it is we were funding this with our tax dollars. even though dr. fauci denied that early on. he denied we were doing gain-of-function research and denied tax dollars were used in it. both statements are not true and why dr. fauci needs to be brought in front of these committees under oath once we've interviewed all the lower level employees and gathered all the information and then he has a lot of explaining to do. then we can decide what actions need to be taken moving forward. >> harris: chairman comer, i can see why there is pushback and
8:11 am
silence. what you just did was took things that we already knew and you tied them all together and listed all the people you want to bring in to talk to them about it. it gets difficult to deny when you have that much -- that long a list of receipts. let's move to this. republicans are not backing down on their claim of a double standard inzside the justice department and their investigation. jim jordan asked the attorney general merrick garland for information and documents. you know what he has received? nothing. >> why isn't there a special counsel for the hunter biden issue. a number of us have inquired. these are special counsel when there is a conflict. there seems to be a conflict when you have a u.s. attorney investigating the son of the former candidate and current president of the united states. why isn't there a special counsel? how was that decision made that there is not a special counsel
8:12 am
there? it seems like there probably should be. >> harris: that's a great question. i know your oversight is meeting later this week about the biden family foreign business dealings and financial transactions. the committee has demanded bank reports from the treasury. those requests are also going unanswered. catch us up on the process you are about to lean into. >> you're right. the treasury department has blocked us at every turn. in the previous three presidential administrations any chairman of the house oversight committee asked for these reports were given access to them. joe biden when he first became president changed the rule for having congress access to this before we knew his family had probably between 150 and 200 of these bank violations, which is unprecedented. we are fortunate, though, that last week we had a very good week in the early stages of our investigation.
8:13 am
we had four different people come in who were affiliated with what i call the biden influence peddling across the globe. they came in and shared information with us that has been very helpful. i can tell you this is very concerning. the amounts of money that the biden family were receiving from our adversaries including china and the question remains what were they doing to receive such large sums of money? they didn't have a business. they talk about business dealings. they didn't own any real estate or manufacture anything or licensed to sell anything? what was the business? that's what we want to know. we also want to know what did joe biden know and was he directly involved and questions that i think we'll get answers to very soon. >> harris: you know, some of the reporting that we've done and others have included that line of was the president the big guy, and i think that's what you are alluding to here. give us a quick idea of the sums of money. you say large sums
8:14 am
>> millions of dollars. in the tens of millions of dollars flowed through from ccp funded accounts to american llcs and then they were being funneled to both hunter and jim biden in monthly installments. like an allowance or consulting fees. we want to know what type of consulting they were doing. according to our whistleblowers part of what they were trying to do with china is to help them get their foot in the door in the american energy industry and to buy an interest in drillers for american energy. now look, we're upset over tiktok and over the china flying a spy balloon over our military bases and buying farmland. the bidens were being paid millions of dollars by china buying into our energy industry. >> harris: there is an energy bill before the president that the left is pushing on tiktok and we can't get our president
8:15 am
to push for energy independence, and we can't get our president to push for the origins of covid from president xi in china. it is really messy and you have really laid it out. chairman, thank you very much for being in "focus." >> thanks for having me. >> harris: president biden facing a huge decision that could be critical in easing the nation's fuel shortage. can he break with those green energy advocates i was just mentioning and approve a massive oil project that has bipartisan support? it's called willow in alaska. and west virginia democrat joe manchin opening the door for a potential white house run. >> my main purpose now is to work for my country and state. that's my responsibility. i won't make my announcement for anything until the end of the year. >> harris: he is not the any democrat being floated as a potential challenger to president biden. marc thiessen in "focus" next.

fuels for 2/3 of the energy supply and into the next century. if you think you need oil and gas for another decade you won't allow investments in infrastructure that's permanent and why he killed the keystone xl pipeline and eliminated all oil and gas leases in the pacific and atlantic and leased less federal land than any president since world war ii for oil and gas drilling but he will go to opec and ask them to produce more oil or lift sanctions on the dictatorship in venezuela so they can produce more oil. that relieves the political problem of high gas prices. but anything that has -- they look at it as black fentanyl coming into our veins. >> harris: three reasons why it has gotten big bipartisan support. the willow plan passed every

but then what the problem is the climate activists have gotten a generation of people deranged into thinking that the planet and world is coming to an end because of climate change. that won't destroy the earth. it is a manageable problem that what we need to do is focus on adapting which is what the free market does well. we'll adapt and survive and find ways to do it. but we will need fossil fuels for a very, very long time. what they are trying to do is force the soviet five-year plan trying to force a policy on an economy that's not ready pushing wind and solar. we don't have batteries that can store wind and solar right now. people don't realize that. if there is no wind or sun there is no electricity but we depend on wind and solar and make everyone drive electric cars so that -- while making the electricity supply unstable.

it's insanity. if you came up with a plan to grind the american economy to a halt you couldn't do it better than what the climate activists on the left are doing. >> harris: i look at california after the severe storms. so much snow and rain and mudslides and their grid went down for millions of people across that state. i have a friend who has a newborn baby and moved to one hotel, then the generator went out. that was the last hotel like that on the street. >> you need gas for a generator. they want to get rid of gas. >> harris: you can't make it up. it breaks my heart. transition, adaptation aren't even part of an honest conversation from the left and from the white house right now. an honest conversation would have those ideas and words in it. let's move. democrat senator joe manchin of west virginia declining to endorse president biden in 2024 and leaving the door open for his own potential white house run. tell me what you think of this
