were kidnapped at gunpoint on friday in mexico. >> ainsley: terrible story. we are learning that the four friends are from south carolina. they were crossing the border for a medical procedure. >> brian: alexandria hoff has the latest. alex? >> good morning. this is really scary story. violent kidnapping occurred immediately after the group crossed the u.s. border brownsville texas into matamoros, mexico. families left shaken by video widely circulated on social media. this is extremely graphic. so, you can see men in bullet proof vests forcing the u.s. citizens into the back of a pickup truck. one woman is shoved into the flatbed while the limp bodies of two men appear to be dragged in beside her. the group has not been seen since. the white van t they had been driving riddled with bullet holes. families tell the associated press that the close friends had traveled from south carolina.

>> did was important to not make a decision too early. i don't want to make a decision before i had all the witnesses all the facts and. i made sure to not make my decision until after closing arguments. >> ainsley: why did you make your decision. >> throughout the entire process of the trial i tried to create two story lines for myself. i tried to create one where alex is innocent and what he is saying to us is all true and telling us the truth and one where, okay, you can't trust him. is he lying. where the prosecution is saying is true and whenever we got to the closing arguments the story line of, imbeing there. him doing it, that's the one that made the most sense the other one was full of doubt. full of holes, it was full of confusion. the other one made much more sense. you know, he is there we have a video. >> ainsley: wasn't that interesting? he had no idea until right before the trial when they get all the evidence that his voice was on that tape. thank the good lord we had that

video, right? >> absolutely. i was thinking the same thing that's divine intervention we have this huge case regarding paul and maggie. they are not able to be there and speak for themselves but paul is able to be a witness for himself with that video. >> ainsley: if you didn't have that video, do you think you would have found him guilty? >> you know, we have had talks about that i think it's very hard to look back and take that out and see where we are. without a doubt, deliberation would have been much tougher but what the outcome would have been i'm not sure. >> ainsley: what did you think about paw paw and imagines. he used those nicknames a lot. was that to appeal to y'all to make you think is he a family man he could never do this to his wife and son because it seemed excessive a little bit. >> yeah. we watch all of these videos of the body cam footage and the interviews and he never refers to paul as paw paw in those. and he never refers to maggie as imagines but then as soon as he gets on the stand it's almost he doesn't use their actual names.

i thought that was very much so to try to appeal to the jury. they have nicknames. they are very close knit. i'm sure they were. that was him trying to overcompensate his points there. >> ainsley: his lying, financial records, cheating his clients out of money to really deserved it. hard-working south carolinians in sentence he stoled their money from them. did that play into your decision at all? you knew he had a history of lying? >> throughout the entire trial judge newman said that information we could not use to base alec's character off of. i made sure i separated it. but whenever it came into play for the motive, you know, i have never stolen money. i have never stolen that amount of money. i can only imagine how much pressure must have been on his shoulders knowing his finances were coming to ain't bo where he was going to be exposed.

>> ainsley: your brother was a witness called to the stand. he was at the scene of the crime because he was a deputy at the walterboro area. how did you think they are never going to choose me to be a juror? >> i didn't think they would just because my brother was in law enforcement he was a witness jury selection the judge reads off the list of witnesses and i stand up and let them know that my brother is on the list. and, you know, they write down my number and later on i go back in chambers and speak with the judge, the prosecution and the defense. and you know they asked me a series of questions and followed up. >> ainsley: like do you know anything about this case. >> have you all had any conversation about it? i told him that night he came in and he had told me that there had been a double homicide but like i told you earlier he has always done so well separating work from home and like i was telling you i know now he saw such a gruesome thing there is no way he would want to talk to me about that and make me go through that they followed up

with do you think you could be fair and honest juror. i told them i would and could. both sides had the option to, you know, exclude me and both wanted me on the jury so i think they made a good decision because i think i was a fair and honest juror. >> a few jurors went to the courtroom the next day. you spent six weeks in there but you went the next day the last day for sentencing and you were one of those? >> right. >> ainsley: why was that important? >> we spent six weeks there together. i think honestly it all 12 of us could have been there. after six weeks a lot of us did have things to get back to and our lives that we had to continue. but we had been there for six weeks. the day before we had decided the verdict of a man's life. and it was important for us to be there for the sentencing for a decision that we had made and to see it to the end. >> ainsley: alec never talked about faith or god. especially growing up in south carolina in church every sunday. >> i'm not sure what his religious beliefs are but not just about that. but, you know, i feel like if i

had if i was up there on that witness stand i would be begging people because i know people are watching to look somewhere else, to find people that had done this if i was innocent. you know, i wouldn't be worried about trying to make my life, make sense. i would be worried about who had actually done this and finding those people. and i think i was asked the other day do we pray for alec and i think absolutely we do. you know, we serve a very merciful god. and we know that paul was a murderer, not paul the case but paul biblically and he ended up becoming a disciple. i think absolutely pray for him as much as we can. >> ainsley: i agree with you. when you send someone to prison for life, even though they are guilty, what goes through your mind as a juror? >> you know, that decision has been on my mind for six weeks. you don't want to be wrong. you can't be wrong. you have to be so sure in your decision because this man is about to serve the rest of his life in prison and can you just

imagine if he -- if he hadn't done it, you know. he has lost his wife, he has lost his child and then you send him to prison for his wife. sures, he may have done other crimes. that would just be awful. i couldn't live with that decision if i wasn't sure of myself. >> ainsley: so, in the end, without a shadow of a doubt, you believe he is guilty? >> i wouldn't have been able to make my decision on the verdict if i wasn't. >> steve: that was such a an eye opener and the way he said you want to be right. you got to be right. >> brian: that's a serious juror unlike the one we saw with the grand jury last week with trump. that's somebody you want deliberating your future, right? >> ainsley: yes. solid guy. just graduated from college. moved back home so that he could save some money. he drives to charleston to work in construction and started working there last summer. his boss said he was cool with him going to jury duty. legally he would have to. >> steve: got no choice. >> ainsley: i said why did you want to do this interview?

at first i wasn't going to do it. thought it was the right thing. some of the facts were being skewed. we did deliberate. we were back in that room three hours it. took me at least or most of us 2 hours and 45 minutes to come to our conclusion. and he said we all prayed as a group in the deliberation room before we decided what this -- what alec murdaugh's fate would be. he wanted to set the record straight on some of the facts and he wanted to glorify god. you heard him. is he praying for the entire murdaugh family. even alex behind bars praying he comes to know the lord. >> steve: just the fact that he is from a law enforcement family, his brother was there on the murder? legally that's allowed. >> brian: i can't believe they would allow that. >> ainsley: wanted me on the jury. i was honest with them i said i don't know anything about the case other than my brother came home and said it was a double homicide. >> steve: and ultimately, alex murdaugh now, you know, is he

facing what 99 other charges for financial crimes and screwing people out of money and all sorts of stuff. >> ainsley: they are looking into some other cases, too. >> steve: suspicious. >> ainsley: suspicious cases that may or may not be affiliated with the family. >> brian: does he have money left to pay his lawyers? >> ainsley: good question, brian. the satterfield did get money. i don't know if that's insurance money. we interviewed attorney who lives in lexington, south carolina. they are have recovered a lot of the money millions of dollars. there is more yet to come. i know in one of the documentaries his law firm partner did say he is working hard. we saw that when he took the stand i'm working hard to pay everybody back. >> steve: ch rkwhich, ultimatelf alex murdaugh was out of money the public defender would be appointed and the people of south carolina would pay his bill. >> ainsley: that's right? >> steve: more legal peril for that guy and great interview. >> ainsley: thank you.

story, but a little baby had stayed at air b and n with the family. they don't even know where it was. that goes it show you how daunting this is. especially forget about looking for a pill, it could be a powder. >> absolutely. and you don't know where it came from or what form it's in. it could be on anything. in our area we have had fentanyl laced into meth, acid tabs and cocaine. it's hard to tell. you think it might still be something else and turns out to be fentanyl or at least fentanyl laced. >> it is daunting and scary. and when you look at the amount of fentanyl that has been seized in 2022, 13700 pounds so far this year. 1600 pounds, which is so, so much obviously, chief, one of
