8:01 am
did it come from a lab? this question is fundamental to help us predict and prevent future pandemics. >> expert witnesses putting holes in the story, we've been told, for the last three years. >> why do so many people believe the virus came from nature? >> the natural origin camp got its story out first, always a big help. painted the lab leak as a conspiracy theory. it was promoted by science administrators in the united states. >> dr. fauci dismissed the lab leak theory, for years in fact. he expected it to be a big topic today, new e-mails reveal covid's top doc prompted drafting of a paper to disprove the lab leak theory.

former site chairman jason chavetz and marc siegel are on site, interesting to see how they explain this one, mark. interesting details coming out of the hearing this morning, members say they are trying to answer straight-forward, but important question. how did covid-19 first spread? there has been speculation for years, no firm answers. the hearing got underway two hours ago, started with different testimony from different experts including former head of the cdc and public health experts including a professor at johns hopkins, lawmakers stress today is start of much broader investigation. >> discovering the origins is vital. it matters for the future of the world and we aren't finished. we're just beginning. >> the facts are the evident

it is biden administration shcough up documents to get to the truth. >> you have a new op ed, if the white house doesn't change course, the next pandemic could come from a lab, too. cruz is calling out the top doc, watch. >> there has been no person who has done more to destroy trust in the scientific and medical community than dr. fauci. he told millions of americans lies willingly, knowingly, glibly, supremely arrogantly. should there be accountability, he would be prosecuted for lying under oath and go to jail for lying under oath to congress. >> marc, do you agree, do you think fauci will be held accountable and should he?
8:06 am
>> my sense of dr. fauci is different, i have interviewed him multiple times, i think he believes it did not come from a lab. he was so holding to that position, he was suppressing alternative idea. i tell you something else that is important, after sars in 2003, he decided to build consortium of scientists around the world and trust scientists but redfield, who will testify today, had a direct connection with head of the cdc and china and got the impression gou was just a messenger. fauci was pushing theory of national origin at same time china was suppressing information just as it had done previously, not allowing us at the truth. you are seeing intelligence

agencies come forward. dr. redfield had access to fauci and he's been telling me our intelligence community knows something and they will start revealing it. you asked, why didn't they reveal it before? we need to know and i agree with senator cruz, how this started, because we're out there still playing with viruses and doing gain of function research in countries woe can't trust, still doing it here. pfizer says they are playing with sars co-v2. i find that dangerous, we could spawn another pandemic easily. >> this is proof there is no way for the government to protect us from future pandemics and when they have critical information, they will not share it and it will take republicans to do digging three years after
8:08 am
millions of people have died from covid or any future cause to a pandemic. that is the bottom line here, is trust. they lost our trust. >> yeah, that is a shame, there are millions of americans looking to the cdc, that trust factor is down near zero because they suppressed the intellectual curiosity, they suppressed contrary opinions, suppressed social media and through news outlets to talk about theories and to look at the possibilities, let alone different things, the mask. problem is, it is not just origins of this, the mask, the mandates, what went on with vaccine, transmissions of the vaccine are the subject. it starts with being self-critical, looking at the
