patience and the officers trying to resolve this peacefully. behavior of this individual did not result in that. residents were not injured and grateful the officers will be okay. >> brooke: the officers were shot three hours after the standoff began. two were patrol officers and the other worked in the canine unit. the lapd says none of the dogs were injured in last night's shooting. los angeles issued citywide tactical alert in response to the shooting. the suspect is dead and there is no longer a threat in the area. he started firing at the officers and the law enforcement used canines, bean bags and gas to get him. a swat team broke through the barricade and moved in on the suspect. reports say the shooter was a felony drug suspect, police have not confirmed his identity.

that power over your children and your family. >> todd: to do what you just said, do you have a specific step you advise parents to take? >> i do. what i did with my children, ask them detailed questions, not just how was your day. what did you talk about in class today. in history class, language art classes, social studies classes, even in math and science, ask them what did you guys talk about, were there things that made you laugh or feel uncomfortable? when your child starts to open up, you will be surprised what they say. don't stop there, let your child, if they are old enough, let your child figure out the logical process, ask them, do you think this is right? how do you think you can better handle these things? if you give your children the opportunity to make logical steps, they will figure this out and say, it helps them build up
