medical procedure. but when they arrived in march 3rd the unthinkable happened. they were met by members of the gulf cartel and abducted at gunpoint. the mcghee and eric williams were found in a shack days later. the brown killed it is believed to be a case of mistaken identity. u.s. law enforcement sources exclusively tell cross dharnt there's much more to this story but both u.s. and mexican authorities are still unraveling exactly what led up to this violence but we don't know. so when she arrived back in the u.s., we asked louisiana taf ya mcghee what happened. watch. are you feeling okay? is it true that -- from the reports that it was a

drug deal gone wrong? can you tell us a little bit about what happened with the cartel? why were you in mexico? >> so there's still a lot of questions left to answer starting with who is this brutal gulf cartel. willing to spill blood for their operation, and what do we make of their apology for this whole ordeal? i'm joined now by steve murphy one of the dea agents who haunted down pablo escobar told in narco sir thanks so much for joining this program. you've got a lot of experience so tell me exactly who are we dealing with with this cartel? >> lawrence thank you for having me on the show giving me this opportunity the gulf cartel is one of the oldest cartels that's operated in mexico for -- gosh, well over 60, 70 years now. and even dating back to days of prohibition here in the united states. they started smuggling booze into the united states so have a long and checkered past. they are also known as one of the most violent cartels in mexico as evidence by what happened to the four americans

that went down there and along with all of the other atrocities committed in that country it wasn't that long ago that we heard about the masquerades and mexico is just a such a dangerous place to go right now for americans. >> you know, sir, we've been reporting on the cartel for a while now. and one of the things that i find interesting is that amount of just average day americans are average day mexican citizens that they are bringing into their trade and i'm just curious how do they find people because they seem like average day people but seems like cartel has tripled down on the recruitment efforts. how do they find them? >> well, there's a lot of poverty stricken people down in that area, and -- you know, as the parents are killed or they don't take care of the children, cartels will take these kids in. not so much as we would think in auction center but you know they'll give them tasks to do and a little bit of money maybe a little bit of weed or e-cigarette or whatever but they

show what children could be considered to be love or attention and that develops that attachment to the cartel itself. quite honestly the lower ranking members don't seem to be well educated they have a hard tile making decisions. if we're to believe the apology letter which in my opinion is a joke -- >> you don't believe it -- you don't believe the apology letter? >> they're asking for the public to remain calm maintain tranquility of peace that is not their motus at all and innocent bystander an apology to poor mexican lady at the wrong place at wrong team. it is just -- i just think it is a joke. you know and then this is my personal opinion. >> yeah it is kind of hard to apologize for this distinct and there's still inflicting pain on citizens both in america and mexico.

sir, to that point, it used to be isolated areas in mexico you know you could go to the tourist site and you would totally be fine but seems like there's turf wars going on between different cartels now. what's beginning on? >> well, every -- every fraction wants to exert their authority, their power over the other. to show they're stronger that they're more capable that they have better connections that they can -- you know they have more dope they have more money. it is just an ego. it's hispanic achievement kicked in full force there and you mention cancun those type of place ives been to cancun it is a beautiful place love to vacation there and never go there again. it was two years ago we had individuals are ride by beaches in cancun on jet skis firing automatic weapons up on the beaches. lawrence: yeah. someone that used to go to have a grat time, i don't think i'll be going any time soon sir thanks so much for joining the program.

>> my pleasure, lawrence thank you. lawrence: got it so foursome from south carolina aren't only whowns may have crossed paths with the cartel. mexican authorities and fbi are now looking for three texas women their families fear they may have been kidnapped. jackie ibanez joins with us latest on this developing story. jackie. jackie: hi good evening lawrence. the women there from the small border town of penitas texas police there say two sisters marina along with their friend crossed into mexico february 24th to set clothing at a flee market in the city three hour drive south of the u.s. border. but after february 28th no one has heard from them. police say they were driving a 1996 green chevy silverado with texas plates. their family fears they may have been kidnapped both mexican authorities and the fbi are investigating. and the wake of this distinct texashas a warning for those thinking of traveling to mexico this spring break. listen.

not just gulf cartel but several cartel in mexico and problem with mexico the cartels are running mexico that is the bottom line. that became evident as best in 2019, november, there arrested one of the -- and president ordered his release and all of that did was emboldened and empower cartel so they call shot and in control now. as far as any type of military intervention on our part, i think, you know, people don't have an understanding of imheact that means. first of all, i really think that all of the cartel not just the -- gulf cartel but all of the cartel need to be declared as terrorist organizations. now once that happens, then our country would treat them as any other terrorist anywhere else in the world like iraq or afghanistan. so people need to not thinking because we're going after cartels in mexico that doesn't mean we're going to be rolling

into mexico with tanks and shooting missiles stuff like that. i can envision our military being involved. cia, if i and dea and hopefully, hopefully working with a mexican official to strategically target the cartel, the leadership of the cartel, and take them out in the same manner that we take out terrorist in other parts of the world. >> yeah, someone that spends a lot of time with special operators they're chomping at the bit to be able to fight a war that benefits american people. lastly, sir, you talked about mexican government -- how intertwined is the cartel with the government? and the authorities in mexico -- >> very much so. and that became very evident with the recent conviction of the former defense minister garcia l'una who was convicted in a new york court a few weeks ago. for working directly with the sinaloa and with gas man he's

not the only one a former general also former defense minister by the name -- he was arrestinged at lax airport, and our attorney general then attorney general william barr ordered him to be released. mexico so that mexico can conduct an investigation. that investigation took five days and they said he didn't do anything wrong. that's the problem with mexico. i mean i love mexico there's a lot of great people in mexico. a lot of good people. unfortunately they don't have -- because of corruption. corruption from the lohse level of law enforcement all the way up to the highest level of the mexican government. so they don't have a chance. i can go to mexico -- and i do my research i talk to the mexican people, and they want our help because they know the mexican government is corrupt. displawrns you're vieght sir you can separate your love for the mexican people an the towns and the country. from the government -- sir thanks so much for joining the program. >> thank you very having me

it is extraordinary, and i want to just add to what charlie said about these cartels. i think most americans underestimate how powerful and sophisticated these cartels are. the sophistication of their weaponry, their leadership structure, the amount of money that they traffic the people that they traffic i think some americans think of cartels as street gangs. no more, we need to look at cartels through a whole different lens. these are military institutions running mexican government so i'll put aside because the real people running mexican government is actually the sinaloa cartel and people in charge of the deadly organizations and it is provocative to ask the question but it is necessary which is why are we so concerned about a proxy worth thousands of miles away when military style organizations are on our own border killing actual americans? our politicians need to answer that question. rng you know what actually charlie it is a legitimate

sphwhrawrns so we've been following the rise of juvenile violence all across the nation. but one school in baton rouge, louisiana hit a breaking point this week. a massive 200 person brawl broke out on the ebr readiness alternative school campus wednesday morning with multiple fights involving both the students and the parents. that chaotic altercation resulted in ten arrests, and one police officer being hospitalized.
