buy into your business and you lose controlling interest of your business and the sharks come in and we complain about the big box stores taking over but the only way mom and pop can get by is through the banking system and if it's not that, the big box stores come in and buy them out and we lose culture when eludes small business. rachel: and small regional banks and we might see consolidation because of this. what do you think, brook, because of elon musk possibly stepping in. >> that'll be interesting if he does. we'll see. there's a lot of uncertainty going into this banking week ahead. we don't know if there'll be potential buyers like elon musk or what the federal government will do with regard to the bank. pete. that's something to watch on monday morning. joey: wells fargo jumped out of the mortgage business last leer when things got bad. even the big banks are -- i

obsessed with identity politics. maybe the numbers shift with ron desantis makes an official announcement, but trump clearly leading and strong in that poll. pete: bring in fox news sunday anchor and legal correspondent shannon bream. we're almost officially entering into that season, early speculation state season. what's your take as the field sitting right now? >> it's interesting because as you said, president trump is going back to iowa tomorrow. that is a very important place for anybody hoping to become president or become president again. so he's going to be there doing the retail politicking. that's where as you guys know when we go there and cover politics in iowa, people expect to meet you two or three times and want you in their diner, pool hall, veteran's hall. they expected to talk to these people if they're living rooms. it's a important place to go and a good poll for the former president going in. though he's got 40% of gop women

u.s. demand for drugs has always been a problem driving construction in mexico, but he hasn't done a whole lot and seems to have formed some sort of separate piece with the cartels and he's in a place where he's willing to let them run huge parts of the country and lawlessness and out of control murder on the border and we get very little help securing the southern border. rachel: mexico is turning into a narco state. is he coalitioning with the cartels but has no choice because they're becoming so powerful and this is a serious threat to mexico's tourism business, which is part of its life blood. what do you make of that? >> it's a huge source of cash and another source of cash, which are remissions and mexicans in the united states legally and illegally that send cash back to people. often badly needed mexicans that need this to survive. we could put a choke hold or

iowa. former president trump goes to davenport tomorrow and nikki haley and ron desantis visiting and one declaring and the other not. are we beginning to see a preview of the 2024 matchup. we have host of the grace curly show, grace. great to have you. what do you make of the early stages of the republican primary as it seems to be shaping up? >> thanks for having me, pete. from what i saw ophryon desantis on friday, i was really impressed already. i know he hasn't declared yet but there was a real comfort to the way he was on stage and we have gotten used to seeing him go back and forth to reporters and contentious viral moments that impress people and makes people a little angry and i saw on friday was a guy i don't know because of coaching or doing the speeches more often, he was very

at ease and enjoying the spotlight, he was enjoying the audience, and really hammering his accomplishments, what he's done for florida so that was kind of the standout for me as far as these kind of meet and greets go. i thought nikki haley was good. she's very, very measured as always and has a lot of control and that can kind of go either way. it can come off as something that people really like or come off as low energy, depends what you want. pete: there was a poll that came out, the 2024 republican nominee among republican voters and desantis and haley and poll after poll after poll remains the front runner with donald trump and he's headed there on monday. you mentioned ron desantis and retail politics and that's something that donald trump has proven to be very good at and he can prove to be an advantage as well. >> yeah, he's headed to east palestine sister a different reason and very traumatic event for the people of ohio and

really resinated with more thans and a lot of positive response when donald trump goes somewhere and he sticks to the issues and he talks about what people care about, people have a real enthusiasm for that and want to see more of that and like that presidential vibe coming from the former president. i think it's hard for him sometimes to stay on script. if i were part of his team, i would say steer clear of personal jabs going to iowa and really make it about connecting with people. that's what it's all about. i know that's hard for him but i think it would certainly play well, but i'm not in the bises of predicting what donald trump will do because as you know, pete, that can be a losing game for people so i'm going to -- we'll just have to see what happens. pete: it's an impossible business. if he has a record, he can stand on as well, especially in contrast to joe biden and one thing i've note second-degree no one that -- noted is no one that ran in 2016 against donald trump yet declared in 2024. they went through the buzz saw that was trump in a primary and

have decided not to go through it again. it'll be interesting. how do you anticipate the jabs going back and forth between front runners here? >> well, i think desantis has done a good job so far staying out of it. i think he has issue right to do that and that's something that is a really strong talking point for desantis and what makes him so credible as a candidate, but as far as personal jabs, trump seems to be the ones taking the swings and not getting them back yet. i do think so, pete, we're starting you have here and the mud slinging will start and we had like a wwe style of politics for the last couple of years and people have gotten very used to that and we'll see a lot more of it going forward. pete: i remember when the other candidates tried to outtrump in 2016 and didn't work for any of them and seems like desantis recognized that and play that

the same problem? >> i'll make it simple. people deposit money and the banks invest that money. silicon valley bank did what you should not be doing. they took people's money and invested in risky assets and long-term assets. even if it was treasuries, the idea it was longer term made it more risky and it was a mismatch of maturities and after silver gate, which was the crypto bank last week that closed up, people got nervous of silicon valley bank. if you looked at their stock, it went from $40 billion to under $20 billion in a year. but their assets grew from $100 plus billion to $200 billion so as they're growing their capital base is shrinking and people got nervous and started taking out their deposits and what happens is they have to sell some assets and sold it at a loss when when they announce that loss, people got nervous and they became what we'll call a run on the bank. lines of people trying to get their money out and they didn't have enough cash to fulfill

those obligations and that immediately and all the sudden what happens is the regulator, which in this is the fdic, the federal deposit insurance company comes in and they close the bank and take it under receivership. i know because of social media that we didn't have during the lehman crisis and this is unbelievable and a harsh time and lehman was a contagion that spread across the globe and this is nothing like that. that being said one of two things will happen. one either someone will come in and think like jp chase and buy silicon valley bank and it's very unique with these type of venture companies that you'll be able to bank. or number two, the fdic is going to do something they never really do.

fdic insurance, sorry to prolong, it only insured up to $250,000 and there's enough coverage to give all the depositors 502075% of their money immediately. joey: as long as two or three or four other banks haven't made the same mistake and predict it quickly and can you predict there's other bank withs the same vulnerability? >> there's not with the same vulnerabilities and people look at the same issues and this is what happen when is there's a run on the bank and doesn't happen that spawn last one in 2008. joey: the banks aren't foolproofed here and people aren't staying. robert wolf, thank you for being with us. rachel. rachel: amen to that, joey. these are the lifebloods of so many communities. thanks, joyy.
