pages and notes, this is one of the best books i've read, congratulations. >> bill: welcome home. >> dana: will you be back to see us? >> benjamin: any day. >> dana: thanks for all you have done. faulkner focus is up next, harris will take it away, here she is. >> historic moment of quick sand, stuck and sinking, big inflation news kind of a bust today, it barely moved at all with all the biden administration policy tweaks and big promises and banking failures of silicon valley, and now signature in new york city, well, it is a growing problem today. the president is insisting americans won't have to bail out the banks again, he better be right about that. i'm harris faulkner, you are in
8:01 am
the faulkner focus. all the white house talk, the prices for food, energy, getting a haircut, everything going up still consumer price index for february up 6% from last year, coming off that high of 9.1% last june. so this is really slow with housing prices sky high, the fed threatening to ep coo raising interest rates to cool down inflation. new word the fed is using today, "maybe" they'll do that. who is to blame for america's second largest bank collapse in history and the deep economic mess we're in right now? the old go-to, our democratic president is pointing a finger at former president trump. >> president biden: thanks to quick action of my administration, americans can confidence the banking system is
8:02 am
safe. during the biden administration we put in place tough requirements on banks to make sure the crisis of 2008 would not happen again. the last administration rolled back some of the requirements. >> harris: republicans demanding accountability and raising concerns that rescue of silicon valley bank could set a dangerous precedent. >> what may have been malpractice on their part, i hope regulators will investigate and decide exactly what happened and explain to us. >> i think it will turn out to be something at the end, customers have to bear the brunt of this. >> community banks are bailing out depositors in silicon valley, new york and maybe perhaps from china. this is a bailout. >> harris: charles payne is here. we will begin with grady

trimble. grady. >> americans are getting hit hard in certain areas every time they go to the grocery store, every time they go out to eat or write the rent check at the beginning of the month. category by category, starting with transportation services, car rental, repair, auto insurance, up 14.6 from a year ago. new cars cost more compared to last year, some areas where prices have come down a bit are gas prices at the pump. last summer they started climbing. used cars are down. gas utility, electricity, food at home and food away from home and shelter are up from a year ago. inflation is easing. today's cpi report is lowest since september of 2021, the president points out in his statement. it is still well above when
8:04 am
president biden took office. he is using today's report as opportunity to go on the attack saying i'll do everything in my power to prevent us from going backward on progress we've made including standing up to congressional republicans who threaten economic catest officeree over the debt limit for large corporations and reckless cuts to critical programs american seniors and families count on. that's the president's response. we'll wait a week to see what the fed response to this inflation report will be. will it keep raising rates to tackle inflation or will bank failure cause it to hit pause for now? harris? >> harris: that's a lot, i know the public's response. the guy in new york, the rent is too blank high, that is how we feel about food prices. charles payne, we would like our

money and like to keep it, like our doctors in 2008. will biden bail out the banks? >> what we saw this weekend was bailout of silicon valley, richest zip code in america. bailout of the place the democratic party gets bulk of donor money and bailout of people that didn't need a bailout. it is critically important people understand. the way president biden is intimating, small depositors were at risk. anyone with less than $250,000 in the bank, you are 100% recovered. they were trying to stock a run on the bank to justify bailing out the wealthiest people. how is this a bailout for the wealthiest people? silicon valley bank didn't want your money. if you walked in with 10 grand, security would have you can waed you out, 93% of deposits had

more than quarter million dollars. they are connected to venture capitalists. he didn't save the banks. when he gave that -- when he spoke yesterday, he talked -- >> harris: you didn't want to call it a speech. >> he talked about more regulation. here is the problem, silicon valley bank had a lot of money in u.s. treasury bonds, if you want to call that reckless investment, most people call risk free, they were a greedy bank. they made hardly no loans and kept money invested. >> harris: talk about inflation, the bigger engine of all of this. that alone signature here in new york and silicon valley bank in california. those two failures alone are worth our time and energy and breaking it down the way you did so eloquently, thank you.
8:07 am
there is bigger picture, they are part of it, too, we're all feeling it. that is inflation, why isn't it doing what biden said and precipitously coming down with the banks and everything else. >> harris, you cannot suck two billion out of the economy that easily, trickle down economy never existed, our economy is based onic trel up. an amazing paper out of stanford shows how the money president biden printed, over next five years will trickle up to the top 1%. between now and then we will have inflationary pressure. you add another program here, the inflation reduction act, yeah, wink, wink. >> harris: climate change package. >> you can't put out a fire while you throw extra kerosene on it, it never happens. >> harris: points of price
