drone plunging down into the black sea. the russian navy is now trying to recover it. >> brian: it looks like they're dumping that fuel on top of the drone. defense secretary lloyd austin speaking with russian counterpart about the incident. this brings the united states and russia closest to direct conflict since vladimir putin's invasion of ukraine one area ago. it's important to bring up that our secretary of defense never told us how the conversation went. he says up to the other guy to say. really? we would like your version of what happened. now we are seeing video of what we claim happen and that evidently, according to reports was the second plane. because the second plane was the one that clipped the propeller that forced the drone between 30 and $50 million into the black sea. >> ashley: clear going directly toward our $32 million drone with a plane that costs equally as much. they are saying thought russian navy is trying to retrieve this drone. we definitely don't want them to do it. our military is in that area of

in the hot seat facing tough questions about the integrity of americans banks after a chaotic day, another one on wall street, as part of the growing fallout from the collapse of silicon valley bank. peter rex is the founder and ceo of the tech and real estate firm. he joins us right now from down in texas. good morning to you, peter. >> good morning. >> steve: so, if you -- and i know you are not. if you are a member of congress and in front janet yellen, what would you be yelling at her question wise? >> i would be really adamant about the fact that we have got to make sure we on the one hand punish silicon valley bank for poor leadership for running a a bad business that's what happened here. shareholders need to be wind out and management needs to be dealt with a heavy hand, yet, on the other hand, we need to protect depositors to prevent other runs on the money. other runs on the bank and to really stop a chain reaction from hang, which is definitely something that we are at risk for happening over the weekend

but i think they have done something here to stem that they need to stay on top of it. >> steve: you kind of sound like joe biden in saying we have got to punish the investors, essentially, because they made a bad bet because he said i'm not going to bail them out. but i will protect the depositor. however, some of the depositors, peter, had half a billion dollars in there like roku. should they be protected by the federal government back stopping the bank they put all their dough in. >> saying i sound like biden this early in the morning, man, that's quite an insult. hey, maybe i just didn't get enough sleep or something. i do sound like biden. i don't know. what i would say is, look, it's not really about any single depositor or the depositors of silicon valley bank. this is about the integrity and trust within the system. if we lose trust in the system we are going to have a situation like 192 #, right? you know, wall street crashed,

run on the money. run on the banks and then we had a great depression. so the banking system is really a charade, it's a frequent charade. it's not really a frequent the free market.the government has d it up. you saw under the reagan administration you should say peter you sound like reagan, under the reagan administration in 1984, you know, continental illinois the largest bank failure of its time stopped -- that whole thing the blood loss there was stopped by the reagan administration and so we're seeing something similar happen in 2008 and now the pattern is happening again. this has been the case for banking systems back to the u.k. before america took leadership in the banking world. the government really has to act as that back stop really it to ensure those deposits we are going to have money stored under mattresses rather than flowing to entrepreneurs like myself but

others out there as well who need it and people looking for mortgages and loans for their cars, their assets, whatever it might be. >> steve: sure, but the question is how big a deposit do you ensure with the fdic and historically a quarter of a million dollars as we saw in the last week it can go up to $500 million, which is a lot. exit question, peter, there are a lot of people who are taking their money out of small banks and putting them into big banks. i think i read bank of america wound up with something like $15 billion worth of new deposits. i have always heard a lot of people are buying t bills because they are backed by the u.s. federal government. if you are going to give some advice to the people watching right now who are worried about their banks, what would you say? >> well, i would say, you know, i will tell you what we have done, right? so we have always kept our accounts with a small amount of money. below 250,000, the fdic limit when we are with a smaller bank.

we have been a client of silicon valley bank we were not at risk at terminal money because we kept our amounts smaller amount at silicon valley bank. the bankers there were always a little bit too cool for my taste. i like bankers boring and nerdy. i was worried about them. had them four or five years as a group we bank with. we have numerous other banks we use. i would say spreading your bets with different banks is the solution. the more, i think, intriguing question going forward is what do we do with this archaic banking system we have on our hands here? what i think we need to do is having something like block chain a decentralized system. >> steve: crypto stuff, interesting. peter rex, joining us from texas who sounded a lot like reagan. don't you think during that soundbite? absolutely. peter, thank you for joining us live. >> thank you. have great morning. take care, guys. >> steve: coming up on this thursday, a fox news alert, brand new video from the defense department showing a russian fighter jet as you can see

now, you just said something interesting. you said that for the fighter jet to do that they are risking their own safety. so that would make one to conclude that they didn't do this on purpose clipping the drone, you think? >> well, certainly if the fighter pilot in that jet attempted to run into another aircraft, i mean, they would be putting their own life in risk. when i was deployed in the middle east we unfortunately saw this kind of cavalier and cowboy approach from russian fighter pilots in 2017 over syria there was a near mid-air where a russian jet very similar to this flanker that you saw almost had a mid-air with a u.s. air force jet that would have killed dozens of people. this isn't the first time. it's completely incredible that they would do this. and really, we need an apology from the russian government. >> brian: do you think we are going to get it? no. >> no. >> brian: do you think we will get $30 million back? no. they could get what the iranians got our drone.

and they were able to reverse engineer it and now they have a fleet of drones. not saying they wouldn't have got one without it but we just expedited their intelligence. so we are not trying to get it. we have no presence there. a couple things to keep in mind. people say well, we don't want world war iii? who does. with the russians, weakness gets you there quicker. they cannot afford to confront us. they cannot handle the ukrainian army. do you think they can handle nato? why don't we think boldly and strongly? >> you are exactly right. the only thing that russians respect is strength. and this is the thing that our foreign policy starts at the top. you know, we should have a strong approach in every aspect of foreign policy and now you see the weakness that's coming out of the response here. we should, obviously, demand multiple things as a result of this. but, you know, they have got this war going on in ukraine. and they are out playing around
