are probably going to find it. >> that's right, steve. good morning to you all. in fact, a short time ago, as you mentioned the u.s. military releasing this newly declassified video showing the moment of that mid-air collision between the russian fighter jet and american drone high above the black sea this he can would. the video is about 40 seconds long. shows the russian flanker coming up behind the lumbering unarmed u.s. reaper speed very high rate of speed reckless. south of crimea. dumping fuel which seems to vaporize after hitting the air after one successful pass here comes again taking a second pass what the pentagon called recklessly approaching. and the collision taking place and the drone was destroyed. keep in mind, this harassment was going on for about 30 to 40 minutes before the collision happened according to the pentagon. here is some other photos released from the u.s. military european command showing the bent propeller which turned that
4:03 am
$32 million drone to a piece of scrap metal after it crashed into the sea. yesterday the pentagon's topster said he is still not sure if that russian fighter jet meant to collide with the american drone. went over and land in the black sea probably about 4 or 5,000 feet of water. any recovery operation is difficult at that depth. there is pattern of behavior recently where aggressive actions conducted by the russians. we know the intercept was intentional. we know that the aggressive behavior was intentional and also know it was very unprofessional and unsafe. >> general milley as you heard appeared to down play the incident saying it needed to be investigated and then, quote, move on he said. russia's ambassadors to the u.s. was not as diplomatic responding to senator lindsey graham, quote: a deliberate attack on russian aircraft in neutral airspace is not just a crime under international law but an open declaration of war against the largest nuclear power. is the capital willing to put american citizens and international community at risk
4:04 am
of a full scale nuclear war? top brass says recovering the drone will be impossible. no warships on the black sea. likely already on the floor. many pieces most likely. some would like to see an invoice sent to the kremlin after $32 million unarmed drone was destroyed. >> steve: that would be great. send putin the bill. lucas, i have a question for you. the way you set it up. it sound like so they were this is what they do. the russians just harass our material, whether it's drones or other jets. so it sounds like in the process of dumping the fuel, they got too close. the guy was driving crazy and essentially it was a mid-air accident sure looks that way a car wreck at 30,000 feet. the jet coming in looking out of control and just slamming into the drone. what is amazing is that it clipped the propeller and didn't destroy both aircraft and just
4:05 am
both collide and both get destroyed. that propeller as you see here pinning around that's the back half of the drone. pretty small compared to the drone. you see the jet come in. it's amazing, it's like a broadside, like a sideswipe you can say. some fighter pilots i have talked to say the fuel being dumped really didn't have a lot of an effect. it was more just for show. but, certainly destroying a $32 million drone has a lot of people angry, especially here on capitol hill, guys. >> ainsley: lucas, we don't want the russians to retrieve it at the bottom of the ocean. do you know the video sent by drone sent back in real time to the u.s.? do we have copies of that. >> yes, ainsley. in fact there is nothing stortd on the drone. all this material would be fed directly back to, you know, u.s. intel analysts to, you know, go over that video. and it's stored, on servers, much like a lot of our material. it's stored back in the united
4:06 am
states in various spaces and certainly, you know, in europe as well. >> steve: one final question if they were dropping fuel on the drone so it would cover the lenses and whatnot, mission not accomplished because it looks like the eyes of the drone are on the bottom. >> exactly. they are on the bottom. they are also on the front of the drone, steve. so the fact that you see the russian fighter jet approaching from the star bird quarter if you will i don't want to lose people there and back right of the drone. it -- you would think you would want to pass in front. when u.s. jets do this to other countries like over the skies of syria, it's called head butting action you have the american jet drop flairs but cutting in front of that other aircraft. this russian fighter jet doesn't appear that it actually ever cuts off the drone. what is also very apparent is how slow the drone is going. that drone is going about 185 miles per hour. some would say it's like a flying toaster.
4:07 am
this is not a stealth aircraft. and the fact that the russians, this would have been doing full squawks, a 3 charlie not to get too in the weeds telling everybody who they are, what's going on and the fact that this russian jet slammed right into it does appear reckless as we heard. >> ainsley: video we are seeing is video captured from the drone right. >> right. correct. >> ainsley: did i read an they dropped the fuel and hovered in front of our drone for awhile. i wondered if it circled back and that's what we are seeing now. >> which is hard to do, ainsley, when you talk about relative speed and these russian fighter jets. near stall speed 185 miles per hour. >> steve: flying toaster. i hadn't heard that yet. lucas, thank you for joining us from d.c. >> brian: yesterday in the press conference, milley and austin spoke. i thought this is going to be significant. used that whole time to give us update on the war and how great they are doing for each other and rallying our allies to
4:08 am
support ukrainians whole purpose was why we were covering it live what are we going to do in response? essentially the secretary of defense austin came out and said we spoke to the kremlin. i spoke to my counterpart. i don't really want to characterize what went on in the meeting. then, when he was asked about what went on in the meeting he said i will let him characterize what went on in the meeting. no, it's a press conference. you should tell us what the characterization was of the meeting. we heard from secretary of state blinken before after he meets with the chinese counterpart you know it did not go well. or whoever the secretary of state is, you know, or when rumsfeld was in there or any secretary of defense who characterized how the meeting went. we lost a 50 -- up to $50 million predator drone into the black sea, in international waters in international skies. that is not okay. we are, again, on our back foot and it takes republican senators to reach out and lash out because our president is mia and our secretary of defense doesn't
4:09 am
want to show any muscle. same thing with mexico. they come out and call out our senators for speaking out and taunt us because our president is mia and doesn't want to represent us with any strength, with any teeth. this is a situation where the russians are being provocative. the only thing they understand have strength and we give them justth opposite. congressman august fliewrg joined us a while ago he was a pilot in the air force. >> the only thing that russians respect is strength. this is the thing that our foreign policy it starts at the top. we should have a strong approach in every aspect of foreign policy now you see the weakness coming out of the response here. we should demand multiple things as a result of this. they have got this war going on in ukraine and they are out playing around and getting incredibly close with aggressive maneuvers in international sky

to our aircraft up acceptable. we have got to be strock and lay the law down and that hasn't happened. >> steve: here's the way i look at it and that is yesterday at this time whether we were talking about the united states had said, look, these jets were nearby our drone. they were harassing it. they were pouring fuel on it and they clipped it. that is what the u.s. said. the russians were saying that the united states accidentally ditched it because we did a maneuver where it went into the sea. that's why the department of defense was working so quickly to declassify it so ultimately we could answer the question ourselves and we can see with our own two eyes that their jet, while they were doing something very unprofessional and brazen got too clorks dumping the fuel as lucas said, it was like a car accident. it was clearly an accident. the guy is out of control. and now the whole-russia, i got
