of a horrible tragedy, an innocent texas grandma and her young daughter were killed after their car was crashed into by a human smuggler. this is 71-year-old maria tambunga and her granddaughter. they are from ozona, in texas. they are both deceased after they were crashed into by a human smuggler fleeing from police, who ran a red light. two illegal immigrants also died as a result of the crash. the human smuggler, from louisiana, his actions have caused the deaths of four people, including two innocent americans. texas congressman tony gonzales outraged tweeting, on monday in ozona, a grandmother and her

granddaughter were killed in a crash. illegal immigration is killing americans, stop with the rhetoric and deliver solutions. human smuggling is rampant at the southern board. this is douglas, arizona, border patrol stopping this vehicle and finding 13 illegal immigrants inside dressed in camouflage, including two small children crammed into the cab of the vehicle. extremely dangerous and another significant fentanyl bust. take a look at the images, arizona, cbp officers seizing 249,000 fentanyl pills hidden in the wall of a pickup truck's bed. that single port of entry seized 20 million fentanyl pills since october 1. back out here live, u.s. border patrol chief raul says border

manhunt. he did not show up for trial on monday, jurors were sent home. this was put out by the u.s. marshal after the judge ordered an arrest warrant. jurors were sent home and trial delayed indefinitely. he served for larry hogan in 2020 and accused of defrauding the state of $275,000. he pleaded not guilty, he is facing embezelment charges, falsifying records and that spells decades behind bars. fbi agents searched his residence. his wife is help ing and says se fears for his safety. his attorney gave few details earlier this week other than to

intention, unprofessional and unsafe. the contact of fixed wing russian fighter with our uav, physical contact, not sure yet, that remains to be seen. i can tell you we have absolute evidence of the contact and intercept and it is very aggressive. >> bill: kurt volker, nice to see you, thank you for being here today. he said incidents happen. maybe this pilot was reckless, it is clear they are trying to obstruct this reaper drone from doing what it was doing at 30,000 feet, what is your take on it today? >> kurt volker: one thing people haven't stressed enough, this was taking place in international airspace above international water, not russian territory or russian airspace, not even ukraine's airspace.

this behavior is intentional, it was trying to disrupt the drone in some way, whether it was intentional or not, who knows, dumping the fuel was trying to disable it. >> dana: do you think we are getting a firm response? >> kurt volker: not enough. i appreciate that secretary austin said we will continue to fly, of course, we should. we need a stronger response to russia saying this is unacceptable behavior, we will not tolerate it, you will not interfere with operation of american military equipment in international space or water or air in the future or there will be a response and i haven't heard that yet. >> bill: your actions speak loudly, you could put a reaper drone back up in the air and it could be over the black sea as we speak now, we can't confirm that. >> kurt volker: i would expect

countries, do you think if this was an american pilot onboard that they would have done the same? >> kurt volker: on your last question there, i don't believe they would have done it if it was a manned aircraft. i think they would find the risk of killing an american pilot too much risk of drawing high level u.s. response, they don't really want that. choosing a drone was a deliberate choice they feel they can manage the risk. what russia is trying to do, as i see it, they want this conflict, aggression against ukraine to look like u.s. russia conflict ornato conflict, to help sustain support at home, confuse people in the global south what this is about, obscures aggression against ukraine and cause us to feel we don't want to be in conflict with russia, how do we deescalate this. get instinct kicking into gear. we have to be clear, these are

two separate things, russian aggression against ukraine. not with u.s. soldiers. attacks against american military equipment and drones in international airspace are unacceptable under any circumstances. >> bill: thank you for coming on, kurt volker, thanks. >> dana: interesting to see how it turns out. >> bill: back to the comment about milley yesterday, black sea depth of the water like 5000 feet. whether or not anything survived when the reaper drone hits water, we don't know, here is milley on the recovery from yesterday. >> it probably broke up, probably not a lot to recover frankly. as far as loss of anything of sensitive intelligence, etcetera, as normal we would take and did take mitigating measures, we are quite confident whatever was of value is no

video captures the moment a man was saved from the los angeles river. he was holding on to a concrete wall before he was lifted to safety. dramatic pictures showing what is left after several apartments fell into the ocean. four apartments were red tagged, fortunately no one was hurt gavin newsom surveyed the damage, many fields are large lakes and many have had to evacuate. gavin newsom says the residentses there will get state and federal help. >> we were driving the levelly, how proud they are of this community and the word over and over that was used, resilience. in the spirit of resilience and

california. dana. >> dana: race for republican nomination, florida governor ron desantis has yet to enter the fray, but picking up his first congressional endorsement from chip roy. it is time for new leadership, younger and proven leadership to offer eight solid years of transformational change. bret baier, there is something about being first, what is the strategy here? >> bret: good morning, this is part of what will be rollout of number of lawmakers who come out and say that governor desantis should run. and they are staking claim to be the first. there are a couple of congressmen in pennsylvania who expressed support for governor desantis, congressman barleta and moreno and they supported president trump in the beginning, some of the first to support him. you may see this rollout and it will be part of whatever happens

with the timeline for governor desantis, looks like he is getting in after the florida legislature. >> bill: what do you make of the statement he said with tucker carlson, here is what desantis said about ukraine. u.s. has vital national interest, becoming entangled in territorial dispute is not one of them. ron desantis's first big mistake is how it is characterized, framed it this way, politics of ukraine may shift as facts do on the battlefield do. if ukraine manages victory, even if republicans call for retreat, gop will have surrendered trust on negotiable security. i think to be fair here, desantis' statement was more about territorial, that phrase caught a lot of people's attention. he said the american taxpayer deserves to know how their

billions are being spent and for interventionists who want putin out, be careful what you wish for, the next would be more ruthless than putin. how does it play? >> bret: you are right, bill, there is more nuance than one phrase territorial dispute. it did raise eyebrows, congressman desantis was hawkish when it came to fighting -- not soviet union, but russia's expansion efforts. i think foreign policy, if we're going to say republicans try to look forward ronald reagan, peace through strengths, we're about 40 years after the evil empire speech for ronald reagan and he laid out how to fight right and wrong and did it in a number of different ways,

polls, afraid of retaliation for expressing opinion. faculty 34%. this poll says faculty will sensor themselves, 25% say yes in publication and writing and 45% on social media. kennedy, not at college, go to k-12 in houston and local leadership is being removed because of poor performance for students. they can't pass tests, they are not reading and writing and doing math at grade level. 79% of houston students are economically disadvantaged, 62% hispanic -- 10% white and the governor and local leadership say we are taking over schools because kids deserve better. >> kennedy: so many kids have their dreams evaporate and

states shouldn't have to come in, parents should have options of better schools. minority students are shoved into failing schools and they are beholden to teachers unions who keep bad teachers in jobs, keep bad schools open and kids go through and fail. it is like how many years do we have to see kids reading and writing and doing math below grade level or failing entirely. what are the ramifications for society? as liberty minded person, we need more school choice, parental choice, fewer teacher unions dictating the terms. >> bill: better teachers, i have a niece that teaches at a catholic school down there, kids are doing great. kids in the city of houston would benefit from having teachers like my niece in their classroom. >> kennedy: absolutely, it is a shame. >> dana: there is question of
