about. that is where the problem is, i'm glad chief ortiz said what was going on and he was truthful with answers, it shouldn't take you to be in front of congress to be honest and say what is happening. you have the border patrol council telling the truth and talking about it, we don't have to take an oath or promise to tell the truth, we tell the truth because it is the right thing to do. you can't wait until something happens and say we don't have operational control or turn around and say the meaning of operational control for some may be different than to others. no, there is no difference, operational control is operational control. when you see the number of illegals, record numbers every year and drugs coming in record numbers, fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine, seeing amount of gotaways go up each and every single month and only thing going down is amount of prosecution or people getting

sent back, that is a problem. they lost operational control a long time ago. >> harris: we're taking a view of some gotaways, people who go around the checkpoints and go around where the cameras are. we have done everything we can even between the checkpoints to see people, we can't catch everybody. customs is tracking the gotaways, shocking numbers are popping and coming out of the hearing, let's watch. >> 385,000 gotaways this fiscal year. >> how much gotaways that you don't know about? >> in my estimation 10 to 20%. >> more? >> yes. >> harris: that is a huge number, that is first quarter of this fiscal year, on pace to exceed 600,000 in total fiscal year and 400,000 the year

a checkpoint, there is a line to stand in and way to behave to get in. they did not have intention of doing it the right way. they thought they would get in. you mentioned the top border chief raul ortiz, here is what he shared. in fiscal year 2023, border patrol apprehended 900,000 illegal immigrants from 150 countries. they are catching some of the people, not everybody wants to get in this way, if you are rushing and climbing, you know that is not how the line works. you have 900,000, compare that to 160,000 in 2020. those are border patrol, just three years ago the number was
