i was heartened to see that mark kelly sat down with bret baier yesterday. and he sounded like the guy i thought he was going to be when he got elected he has been invisible until he decided to run for re-election. a military guy with a security background. obviously extremely bright as an astronaut, but he spoke and he sounded, you know, he sounded like henry cuellar yesterday in talking about how bad the border is. listen. >> it's been a crisis for my entire time in office. you know, times it gets a little bit better. i was on the phone a couple days ago with the mayor of yuma, doug nichols, the numbers are a little bit better but they are still way too high. it's a real challenge for border patrol and cbp to do their jobs. it's not secure. my attitude about this is to listen to the professionals. listen to the border patrol agents, the guys on the ground who have to deal with this every single day. and when they will tell you in some plates we need barriers.

numbers so far this morning. this is different today. because of the grandma, and her grandchild, granddaughter, who were killed by that -- by that migrant -- or rather by the human smuggler running that truck with 11 migrants in it, suddenly there is a face to it. rarely are there crashes involving innocent bystanders, usually it's the smuggler and the migrants who wind up dead in these kind of accidents. but this time they hit that grandma and has put a human face on it. and that's why across texas and the country today, there is outrage. it's like they did not have to die. absolutely did not have to die. but smuggler was being chased by the cops at a high rate of speed because he had a truck full of migrants and he is going to go it jail. >> ainsley: now the daughter and son lost their child and mom. the liberal's d.a. office is offering employees shuttles to work. but isn't the d.a. responsible

2021. they rose exponentially. in fact, the 2021 maternal mortality rates increased by 50% when we compared them to 2019. so we know that that's an issue. really, a larger issue that has been going on lack of health access a lack of good quality hospitals. and black maternal mortality, black females are three times as likely to die childbirth then white women. so we have some disparities that really have to be addressed. >> ainsley: women dying during childbirth or pregnant or after. >> world health defines maternal mortality death during pregnancy or 42 days after pregnancy. how many maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. 2021 that number was 33 deaths per 100,000 compared to 2020 when the number was 24.

and 2019 it was only 20 per 100,000. the increase significant. and the us actually has its highest maternal mortality rate compared to any other high income country. we are the most dangerous country high income country to have babies. >> ainsley: i'm blown away by. this it seems like back in the day you heard my great grandmother died in child birth, but you rarely hear it today. but the numbers show otherwise. what's the solution? >> the solution is looking at the preventable causes because, actually, 80% of the maternal deaths are from preventable causes. and so we want to look at co-morbidities, like obesity and cardiovascular disease and most important healthcare. want to expand healthcare to make sure mothers are getting prenatal care certainly in the second trimester. rural areas a lot of ladies don't have the proper access to medical care. most of it is preventable. >> ainsley: older women or
