in 2021 in general related to covid with the rising covid we saw a lot of increase in general mortality but black women are almost three times as likely to die in childbirth when compared to white women. that's just the united states in general places like new york they are times as likely to die. it is because of health disparities, lack of access, it is also because of implicit bias, arthel, many black women even when with no social economic problems even women who are highly educated studies show they are often not listen too. their symptoms are not taken seriously so we end up having the highest mortality. the fight is there protection for black women? >> well, there is no specific protection. even when you are educated you try to advocate for yourself and i'm speaking from first-hand experience. i can tell you countless callings and physicians who have spring to same thing there it

just seems to be a disparity in a systemic or implicit bias that for whatever reason even some celebrities you will hear that keeps them from being heard. and so right now we're just trying to use our voices and get the information out. even ladies who have higher rates of obesity which tend to be black women, higher rates of heart women, asthma, glued musings and put you at risk. the fact the general maternal maturity and the united states is 33 per 100,000, but for black women it is 69.9 deaths per 100,000, that let you know it's not just a coincidence. there is certainly a link something needs to be done. if i'm doing to expand on that and taking a look now at death rates by race. nearly 70% of black women as you just said died for every 100,000 live births and that as compared to tooth 28 deaths. among hispanic women and around 26 deaths among white women.

what should you do if you are a black woman who is currently pregnant? >> if you are a black woman who is currently pregnant you need to first make sure you're getting your prenatal care. find out your rights, find out coverage for not everyone has health care expansion but really be vocal and ring the alarm to make sure getting health care starting in the first trimester and certainly by the second trimester. if you feel like you were not being heard, keep talking. take someone with you. there's an issue during covid because specimen partners were not allowed to be there to advocate. make sure you recognize that if you have a symptom do not allow a physician or nurse to downplay your symptom part you know your body, speak up and also just make sure you have your blood pressure under control. that you are as healthy a weight as possible print they ask about your heart because heart disease is more common than you realize in pregnant women it can be a cause of death. in short, speak up for yourself, understand your worth.
