[applause] good evening and welcome to america's late news. fox news at night. i am trace gallagher in los angeles. and breaking tonight, a massive storm system now rolling across the south spotting a major tornado that left in 80-mile long path of destruction in parts of central mississippi. the town near louisiana border taking the worse of it. reportedly with major tornado damage. now, we have confirmed touchdown and injuries reported further east in silver city. tornado warnings remained in

effect at this hour in multiple mississippi counties. those warns are bound to pop up in alabama as well as the storm system keeps moving east. we'll have breaking news, updates on what transpires across the south as the show goes on. tension with the teheran are growing for r the second day in a row. u.s. forces were under attack by irairanian proxy group. an american contractor was killed and several u.s. forces were wounded. our chief correspondent, jonathan hunt, is live on how the u.s. is responding. >> good evening, the u.s. still has troops in syria. they have been there since 2015. there are around 900 troops on t tthe ground and they are und attack once again tonight. fox news learned there had been

you know on wednesday we heard xi jinping when he was departing moscow he said to vladimir putin -- changes are coming that have not been witnessed in the last a hundred years. then, he said to putin, you and i are driving change together. that's an indication xi jinping thinks that he's boss of the world. what he's doing is a number of ways. he's showing utter disrespect for the u.s. one of those ways showing disrespect for the u.s. are killing that contractor and wounding american forces. we need to look at who is really behind these attacks. >> i know you said disrespect for the u.s., gordon, i am wondering if it is not more. we constantly in the past few months, we have seen this diplomatic outreach between china and russia. when it comes to the united states, all we see are threats at the united states. >> yes, a lot of these threats go unpunished and xi jinping

patrol revealing both officers believe the death of the 19-year-old steven smith who was found dead in 2015 was a homicide. in the report, an unnamed highway patrol officials said the local coroner said he believe smith had died from a gunshot wound, writing pointing to the entry point to the head and a defensive wound to the hand. i asked for clarity if they were sure it was a homicide. their response was yes. that theory changed to a hit-and-run. the coroner said he had to change the cause of death because of a ruling from the medical examiner who said she found no bullets or fragments and could only theorize that it had to involve a motor vehicle. the highway patrol reports, state, i asked why she was ruling a motorcycle accident and what she thought caused the head injury. she told medical it was not her job to figure it out. it was mine.

continuing coverage now of the breaking news of devastating tornados hitting several counties across mississippi right now. that's about 60 miles in jackson. northern mississippi and we are toll it did take a direct hit. we are talking about reports coming out of there, buildings being down and people being trapped inside those buildings. about 30 miles away from rolling ffork is silver city, mississippi, took a direct hit and there is some damage. reports there is debris being taken up from this tornadic
