11:00 am
it is a violent tornado. eric: at least 23 people are confirmed killed that number expected to grow after multiple tornadoes tore through the mississippi overnight. at least four people remained missing at this hour, and dozens more have been injured. you see the lightning and the veracity of the storms that were to the south. hello everyone i'm eric sean this is fox news live. hi alicia. parts i am in for arthel neville
11:01 am
for the devastation apparently began in a town of rolling a fork mississippi miles northwest of jackson. the mayor said damaged assessment quote my city is gone for the national weather service says that same tornado is believed to have erased eastward at 70 miles an hour, never weakening as it slammed into silver city mississippi and several towns in alabama on a 100-mile path of destruction. mississippi governor declaring a state of emergency in affected counties in mississippi emergency management agency said search and rescue teams are on the ground. arthel: we have talked to starstruck this hour. meteorologist adam standing bite storm chaser zachary hall is on the ground was served charles watson who is live in mississippi with the very latest in there, charles. say, eric, we are in anne-marie, mississippi right now we are trying to make it to the downtown portion but the closer and closer we get to make it
11:02 am
into the downtown area. part of the reason you see the line of cars trying to get into the downtown area. part of the reason it is hard to get in here you see police out there blocking that area from folks heading through. we have not been able to get down there just yes. you can see from a distance there is just a lot of destruction down there. i believe we can see cars tossed about. we see a lot of the electrical lines toppled over and lines and down on the ground. just piles and piles of rubble. we could also see people's exposed roofs down there but you can imagine, eric, this is make a rescue and recovery efforts whole lot more difficult for the first responders who have come from mississippi and from other states to sort of help those folks who have been affected by this tornado.
11:03 am
you can see over here, another set of lines down. this home right down the street from other homes has sustained a serious looks to be okay. a lot of trees and debris down right now. but erica, again a serious situation down here. and by the looks of all the destruction that we see right now there is no wonder why this storm killed 23 people. twenty-three confirmed deaths across the state of mississippi really heard from the assisted b emergency management agency which said this first responders were out on recovery efforts we could see those numbers unfortunately tick up as we speak. four people are missing we mention the power line there's a lot of power lines down right now. thousands of people were without power overnight. we presume thousands of people are still without power. that is certainly going to make
11:04 am
the rescue and recovery efforts a lot harder because the communication is really, really difficult in this area, eric precooked just of dempsey as we can see, charles thank you. alicia progressed present buying a short time ago issued this statement on the tomatoes, to those impacted these devastating storms in and to the first responders and emergency personnel working to help their fellow americans we will do everything we can do to help it will be there as long as it takes. we'll work together to deliver the support you need to recover. and for more on the deadly tone is lesbian storm chaser zachary hall. zachary, it is my understanding you are now just outside rolling fork. can you tell us what you saw she left the area? >> whenever we left the area the damage was still pretty bad. obviously there's a lot of emergency response. local law enforcement, fire, ems services. local people helping, family
11:05 am
members, friends the devastation inside rolling fork is bad. we were there at less than one edition nato hit. we went back to this morning some the worst damage i have seen and i've been doing this now for about six years. it is pretty rough for sure. alicia: zachary out on your twitter feed this morning just taking a look. you posted so many devastating images. there is one that is particularly haunting. this is the image of folks can take a look at what the tornado looks like just before it struck rolling four. can you tell me about that moment and did you have any idea where that was headed? >> we were actually in the town of rolling fork and decided to readjust south and we saw the velocity on that raider technology in the car spiking. we knew it was likely over to the unit was going to be coming into town from flared our horns we have tornado all over the
11:06 am
scar hoping people would recognize that we are trying to say. there were no tornado sirens i remember going down. estimate south of town was of the image or the tuna you just showed. it was haunting. the sound of it was haunting. never heard a roar like that associated with a tornado. it moved into rolling fork, mississippi ingested so much damage. zachary can you talk to us about warning systems how they work for areas such as rolling fork? also, how did they come into play when you have a storm moving so fast? >> the national weather service in jackson, mississippi issued a tornado warning. i do not want to speculate because i do not remember how early they had issued the warning. and they also don't to speculate or comments on ema work as far as tornado sirens i drove rolling fork has tornado sirens.
11:07 am
but we uncovered many people from the rubble and damage to said they had no idea tomatoes coming into town. i do not know how that occurs given the national weather service has been referencing strong violent tornadoes for a few days down this region. but then again it's one of those things were they may not see the warnings, may not hear the warnings in this tornado is moving faster if i remember at the wernick information had the storm moving at 48 -- 50 miles per hour. that is quick. alicia: this is an event that happened at nights. how does that darkness come into play in all this? i imagine people had an idea something was happening, so i think a look around and see where it was coming from. folks right. the only reason you are to see what images we provide is because of the lightning. a list of the super celt moving into town we kept looking for the tornado, the lightning eliminated it. actually seeing the ocean and hearing the roar there's a good
11:08 am
chance many people had no idea. this a lot of strong thunderstorms that are in the mississippi delta area. just a debt bad circumstance that really is very quick to simply heartbreaking. zachary hall from chaser doubt on the ground there. went to thank you for bringing us these images and kind of explaining how all this works, be well thank you. >> of course. eric: teams the national weather service and of course in the area mississippi now in alabama and tennessee. assessing all the damage, dealing with survivors and looking for any victims. adam and the "fox weather" center of the very latest on what we know, adam. >> we are tugboat surveying of damage there is a large area to cover brainstorm reports from yesterday's storm, that one particular tornado we've been talking about this is one super celt. over her mouth between them. we didn't notice debris balls aren't radio at at the time is
11:09 am
much as a mild this is could be a powerful turn out tapping the next couple of days in this area, today bright and sunny that's good for any cleanup efforts at any sort of survey you want to temperatures running towards 80 degrees. it is look like nothing but sunshine out there today. maybe a little bit of a change tomorrow a chance for severe weather pops up to to the south of this area verbal talk more about that in a moment. we are looking back towards 80 degrees with plenty of sunshine. now where is that system currently? we've been watching the line of storms sweep across the southeast now getting to southern georgia largely back toward the not nearly like what we have seen it yesterday. there continues to be a chance of that likely a get across much of the southeast for yesterday where the very likely significant range.
11:10 am
there are still some ingredients out there. folks across the southeast still need to beat weather aware here on the saturday. maybe a better chance for severe weather as we get into this but looking to stretch from the carolinas and back across portions of mississippi? where is this compared to where we saw the storms yesterday? the best chance for severe weather could be south of what we have seen 24 hours ago. you're getting right in that area were more severe weather could be on the way. of course will be watching that all unfolds. >> has to certainly watch what's coming tomorrow, adam thank you. these tornado struck in the middle of the night on center half alive with ways you can help with recovery efforts, alex brickwork certainly going to be needed and it is frightening
11:11 am
when you see an event captured in real time. we see it often so much sheltering in place or fleeing from a storm document the journey. like it upside down trying to hit in the dark of night and flashes of lightning illuminated or transformers blew out in the distance, let's take a look at the video here. rex seems like were waiting for that now. do this season to season you can only see the outline of this tremendous storm coming their way when the flashes of light would happen. we've got photos of rolling fork. talk to a homeowner who think loose able to enjoy a safe place before her home was destroyed she was very emotional her name
