her when it was over, when you felt like you could move out of your bathtub and you walked out, what did you experience? enter words were darkness and sounds that i have never heard. sirens in the distance, alarms going off. she walked out out of her home where the roof was taken off in the brick walls collapsed in she walked out with her family and looked around i could not get a grasp for scenes like this because they were not lit and all the power was out but she knew what had just went over this town had destroyed it. sure enough when i spoke to her she sat gazing at her house yesterday and complete and utter shock. this is really traumatic. and the shock is still very much a part of what's going on. it's going to be like this for weeks. and then people get out to look at my town is gone, where do i

spent the day with jack brewer and pete you spent the day with jack petty and i spent the day with devon still a defensive tackle for the cincinnati. he made national headlines became more known when his daughter at four years old was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer. it was while he was an nfl player, he was supported by the nfl into steam. but i changed devon's life and who he is and how he approaches, not just been apparent in the parent of a child with cancer but how to be a person in this world who accumulate wisdom and tries to help others, here's a little bit of my conversation with devon still. >> i love sports because it's a metaphor for life. not just a metaphor for life, it is a training ground for life. do you think that is something that you have successfully applied, we know, the trials of your life? >> at the beginning i was reacting to a lot of the challenges at first. i would even say that with

leah's diagnosis, when life gets flipped upside down people will react to it. but i think what are the great things about athletes, we will react but we will put ourselves in a calm state where we won't make any permitted decisions based off temperate circumstances. one of the biggest things i think i struggled with when leah was first diagnosed as a loss of control. but the one thing that i did have control over was making sure she didn't have to go through it alone. i had to learn for myself to control the controllable's. that's something i learned from sports. rachel: that is an amazing lesson to learn. will: rachel, he is chock-full of them. as someone who would go through this. leah survived her cancer, she is aerobic, 12 years old, you will meet her later today and my entire interview with devon still at 8:30 a.m. as would help somebody who is been through this in life, he is an absolute well of wisdom that he wants to share with other people.

pete: we are back with headlines. a third person is reported dead after major explosion at a chocolate factory in pennsylvania on friday, one person was found alive in the rubble yesterday, three people are still missing. initial report indicated a gas leak for the deadly explosion. in indiana teen who was missing for about a week has been found safe. miles from where he disappeared 14-year-old scotty morris was taken to hospital as a precaution police say his been placed in a safe environment as his family cooperates with investigators, police released this photo of scotty that reads

from different places to help the debris scattered all throughout our city and done a lot of damage. rachel: but i see the pictures i cannot imagine what that process looks like for a cleanup, i can imagine being in person, i think a lot about the children. we had video of a young boy explaining what he went through a sounds so terribly traumatic, i know one of the things you're concerned about is the superintendent, how do we get these kids back to feeling secure in the sense of normalcy in that's why i think of the school, tell me about that component and what you guys are doing in that regard. >> we did stuff for damage at whatever schools and we have a structural engineer that came in yesterday to look at that and we have some more meetings today. right now the town does not have power or water and that's a big concern for us. as soon as we can get that we do believe we cannot school but we

gotta make sure we have water and power. rachel: right now are many of the children out of the town? >> no, people are doing cleanups and people are living with other folks and things like that. rachel: okay, what else is going on? how else can the school district as a source of help to the community, what else are you doing? >> we are committed kidding with our families, the principles are communicating and letting them know, right now we don't plan on having school for a couple of days we can reassess and see where our buildings are at so we can have school. rachel: brian we appreciate you joining us this morning to been a country a little bit of a picture of what's going on in your town. we hope you know that everyone is praying for you and your town. again, thank you for joining us this morning. >> thank you. coming up tank kevin o'leary

are considering, we shall see. joining a steve smith a father of five and arizona state director of the american federation for children and bridget zigler of sarasota county school board chair and for the mom of three, thank you for being here. steve, let me start with you, arizona was ahead of the curve on a lot of this in passing school choice, yet, why is it so important that parents have the ability for the dollars to follow the kid, how does it change the game? >> it is a game changer and the reason it is important the power of the personal belongs to the parent, when the parents of the power they truly can help their child achieve the education that they want, for years and years and years at least in arizona we started giving the power to parents and when arizona did the big universal expansion last year it really blew the door off of it. to see the other states come on board it's amazing and when parents can control your child's

destiny what better model than that. who knows better than the mom said the dance and what's best for the kids, it's not for the government it is for the mom and the dad, power of the parents is what parents continued to say that they want to see a rollout state after state after state it is truly amazing is sweeping the nation and once again when parents control the dollars and have the power of the purse the education is limitless for the child. pete: the three of us love what's happening, there's plenty of people who do not like teachers unions and confront their prerogatives as a school board member, what are they afraid of? those that protect the system that exist. >> school choice is the ultimate accountability measure. teachers unions want power and as chris mentioned money were not talking about outcomes, we all win as a community, state and the country when we have strong academic outcomes and

whatnot allows parents to be powered they find the best place for the child to drive academically, teachers unions want to have control the talk about financial and money and not the outcomes it is a game changer as was said before in florida has led in multiple ways and particularly school choice having had the expansions over the past 30 years it is exciting to be expanded, it's important not only for another states but more states need to take notice and i'm the director of the leadership institute and retraining parents to take back to school so they understand that they can hold their elected officials accountable. if not they can go elsewhere. >> you have to stay vigilant because the current governor in arizona katie hobbs a democrat would love to see this go away dirty trying to stifle. >> it is which is crazy even when we do pulling, 75% of arizonans and we see this number mirror across the country support school choice and

programs like the university and governor desantis is about signing. the super majorities of republican, democrats and independents. in arizona we have over 50000 kids that is on the esa program right now, what governor hobbs in arizona needs to know 65% of the kids on our universal program come from households where the median income is less than the state average. truly, kids that want to use the program, kids that would normally never have the opportunity to attend the schools that they want to attend or receive the education and resources they are receiving, they are getting it. why katie hobbs and any person for that matter would want to limit that child, i keep hearing children are future. then let them have a future and give them the things that these families have been clamoring for and i'm so proud of governor desantis to follow what governor ducey did in arizona and the other state and giving them this

many towns hit with big impacts and we focus on one that's what we saw yesterday boarded but we see damages later on of silver city coming out. another one of the towns that took a direct hit, take a look at this before-and-after from rolling fork, yesterday we were talking about how much of the city and the town had impacts. you get an idea right there the storm coming in from the southwest cutting up to the northeast from the center of it. we can go back to the before picture. that is still the after. you get the idea right through the center of the town we saw the path of the storm go through and that's why so much impact for rolling fork. take a look at this at time lapse of the radar image going through, satellite you get an idea of the lightning strikes and you get the image right there at the center of the storms that cut right through mississippi, today more severe weather coming to the area but it's going to be to the south of where the line of storms was.

the tornadoes, ten confirmed, at least in ef-4, they will continue to do the investigation. this morning we have severe weather to the south but in the same area more severe weather happening today, will send it over to you. will: veterans upset over a proposal that will eliminate disability compensation with 30 more than $170,000 a year. the c.b.o. the congressional budget office says it would save $253 billion over the next ten years but the secretary of veterans affairs dismisses the idea saying we think it's a bad idea and were not going to do it, purple heart recipient and retired army captain jason church joins us now. great to have you with me. this week when the news came out got several text from veterans and friends and i rate would be an understatement. the sentiment that i heard about means testing disability.

>> it blows my mind that the c.b.o. would publish this as a viable option for the federal government. leave it to bureaucrats in washington to come up with this type of plan. by cutting va compensation to veterans, americans would be paying lip service to the phrase thank you for your service. like you said in the segment beforehand let's lay it out like it is. if a veterans household income, that includes her spouse by the way is over $170,000 a year, the veteran would not receive his or her disability compensation. that veteran is missing arms, legs, any physical or mental wounds they won't receive anything from the injuries in combat. if it's under $170,000 a year they have a scale with the ratio that decreases the compensation in accordance with the household income. in essence you telling prosperous veterans who are working that it would probably be in their best interest not to work if they make under a certain amount of money.

will: i don't think this is the most important point to make. i would've come back to the most important point, clearly a disincentive for it we constantly talk about veterans and what they do in their post military career. we talk about homeless veterans and here we put into a place a policy that incentivizes veterans not achieving after serving. >> yeah there are plenty of folks and government both republican and democrat that may sink into think this is a viable option to correct what we had in decades. we have somebody functioning underfunctioning processing members of society refusing to work this is something that is cutting at the heart of trying to push forward after injury and some of the hardest things we seen in combat. you basically saying don't build something out of work or out of your home trying to build a business trying to expand and

grow. it's really a slap in the face. i will tell you there are plenty of other places where the federal government has been foolish spending money that they could be targeting. look at the federal ppp loan program that is wasted billions and billions of taxpayer dollars on a fraudulent actors. there's so many things that they can go after him veterans va compensation certainly is not one of them. will: you could even stay within the dod and find this type of money to be saved somewhere else. i said the memes testing this incentivizing work is not the most important point, to me i'll say this the most important point are we going to socialize and apply socialism to the idea of your sacrifice to your country, your disability somehow is less valuable to the country if you are successful in your post career. it's really, really despicable way to approach asking people to make the sacrifice. jason church, thank you for getting up with us this morning. >> thank you for having me on.
