trump. at least in the short term. why is that? >> there is nothing to the case. it exposes the politicized nature of the justice system of the united states of america. to listen to that language of so many. this is an issue of a projection versus reality. style versus substance, howard. president trump's style -- there is nothing to this case. it is not about a porn star, it is not about hush money, it is not about anything except potentially allegedly the best booking of some fees paid out which is a misdemeanor. the statute of limitations has run on. that the manhattan da choosing to do this it is partisan and political. taking down a political candidate. that turns off, not just republicans, howard. you heard from the former

governor of new york andrew cuomo saying there is nothing to this. it is political. howard: journalist and some of those on the left that don't love donald trump say that this is the least important of the investigation. try to turn a recordkeeping misdemeanor into a felony charge. most people do not care about the sentence it was a long time ago. is that why it is part of boosting trump? raising $2 billion off of this? >> no. van jones i would argue loves trump. this is helping donald trump for the same reason covering all of his rallies help donald trump. if you are the headline news, i think was back in 1976, the most loved and hated man in america but everyone knew his name because he was the most loved and hated. donald trump has a head bite. whether it's an indictment or a bradley, it actually does help

the president because -- the former president -- because it stokes up the base and it helps people get out there. he loves to play the victim. it will happen tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow and it does not happen, look, this is a witch hunt. it does benefit him, actually. howard: i want to put up the first full screen. this is for you, well. here is donald trump. a soloist backed animal that does not care about right or wrong. this is gestapo. russia and china. calling him human scum. does that language and trouble you? why has most of the press shied away from dealing with it? >> doesn't trouble me? it would not be my style. i don't call someone scum. i do not call them an animal. comparing what is happening in our justice system compared to soviet russia may be hyperbolic, but it is not off-base.

it is an extreme example to show the direction of the united states of america. this is a pretty sober analysis, actually, howard. not just the likes of me. as you pointed out previously you can hear it across the political aisle, across the illegal analyst spectrum. if you turn it into a weapon, as tucker said, we are lost. it cannot be a part of said tool. so much about donald trump is a reaction to the reaction. it always says. we like to talk about trumpet we like to talk about style. we don't want to talk about substance. >> they love talking about trump. they love that he is back on center stage. their ratings have been anemic. trump is a story no matter what you say about him. let me put up the other full screen for you, leslie. the tipping point came with this. suddenly started to be talked about on tv. why would bragg act when it is

known by all that no crime is committed. potential death and destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our country and went on to call him a psychopath. many in the media are saying this is trump threatening violence. is that fair? >> i do think it is fair. gestapo offends me. having relatives died in the holocaust. this is not gestapo people knocking on your door, dragging you out, putting you want trades, sending you two camps where you were murdered because of your religion or sexual orientation the list goes on. this is way beyond the first amendment. way beyond yelling fire in a crowded theater. i will not say if, i will say when someone gets hurt or killed because of this type of rhetoric. this is very dangerous for anybody, especially a former president that is running again as president.

it really bothers me that not more republicans are coming out. i understand they want to win, but what that cost do we win? i would help fellow democrats would call out of my side of the aisle as well. what are we teaching our children this kind of rhetoric? what is a republican party doing to themselves and the party, what are we doing to our nation with this type of rhetoric. this is not a game. this is a reality. there is a crime. grand juries are not political. comprised of people that have very political ideology. there should be indictments coming down. you cannot just say this is politics. is that politics in georgia, is a politics in washington as well howard: we do not know the outcome of the grand jury. it would be absurd to know the 12 or how many people don't have political beliefs. the district attorney is political. a politically held office. listen, what donald trump had to say is not a direct incitement

to violence. the legal limits of the first amendment. we have played this game over and over with the left drawing these absurd extreme conclusions about donald trump's rhetoric. i don't think it is a proper use of the podium without saying we have now crossed the rubicon when it comes to free speech and incited violence. to me, the reaction is not as important as the actual substance. if you use a justice system to go after your political appointees, that is more impactful and more determinative of the united states of america they had a tweet or a truth post speed to the new york times informed us the other day, this was picked up everywhere, donald trump had friends that he wants a perp walk. he likes the idea being created for the cameras. that helps him. he will campaign on this. what do you make of this story in light of the fact that now trump is insisting that he not be indicted.

look at independent special counsel in washington, d.c., that is one thing people have to ask. at the end of the day, this will hurt the republican party. let me tell you why very briefly. okay. if donald trump gets the nomination he will lose. if donald trump does not, key will say that the nomination was stolen from him and it will be a circus and i will get popcorn to watch it. howard: a lot of people saying he will lose up to 2016 right up to the day that he did not lose. press largely sides with prosecutors and judges against trump when he attacks it. that goes back to bob mueller and et cetera. all of the coverage, good or bad, actually helps him. it blocks out everything else. it makes everybody else off the screen. >> it did that, i think it did that this week to ron desantis.

really quickly, to leslie's question, is that all political? i think the answer is, yes. i will reference the former governor of new york andrew cuomo and ask is it a coincidence that all of these cases are coming up the same time? you cannot cite donald trump saying marder meat is political when it is the attack on him that is political. drawing a line the attack of the mexican army. if you are going to attack, come on.

arrested by the nypd. aren't these ai photos pretty chilling? >> you raise a point. this is greater than trump. technology changes with defects that can make it seemed like a person is actually talking but not. on some level also, a fan fiction element to this. why are they getting shared so much? people are just sharing that because it is this wish fulfillment they are getting out of it. i think that it is also, frankly, a symptom of what bubbles up over indexes on places like twitter and in the corporate media which is the trump addiction not so widespread among the general public. among the media, people that shared this artwork on twitter it is a big factor. >> facebook and twitter slap warning labels on these images. fact checkers say this could be misleading. could be misleading, it is totally false. skeptics saying i saw the

photos. some of the people that retweeted it or distributed out, they put more serious headlines on it as the original poster said he was just having fun. >> for a media that is so obsessed with stopping misinformation and disinformation from getting into the minds of the general public, there does not seem to be a whole lot of concern about this. they seem to really be enjoying it. i agree with you, a lot of people out there that may take this seriously. at the very least more of a benign version of it. wait until we get to the video stage of what is happening. i write about the trump addiction from 2015, 16, 17. here we go again. the latest obsession that the media has with donald trump. the technology changes, but the same addiction remains. we will get this now for the rest of this year into next year. it will all be replayed again. only going to help donald trump in the long run.

trump's attacks without alienating trump's base. i don't think there is a good way to do that. desantis, you are right, he has been taking hits from president trout now for weeks and weeks and has been very careful about not responding specifically. what you heard in that press conference was a real indirect wall up against the president over his past scandals. this one was a pretty ugly one and it has a president possibly getting indicted on a federal charge. i think he is trying to navigate a really tricky thing here. i'm not sure there is a successful path for it. howard: we will see about that. kevin, trump seemed especially annoyed. they had a fallout last year. do you want to push back? do you think desantis is realizing he cannot just say nothing when all the punches are being thrown in his direction? >> i think you head on it last

president trump. they are not aimed necessarily at the truth. they are aimed at bringing down his biggest competitor for the nomination. if you look at national polls, trump is ahead in some of the more recent polls. it will not be found on the national level. the primary will be fought state-by-state. looking at the early voting for two of them are at a more even pace with voters. i think desantis is a much bigger threat to president trump. i think that trump knows that. that is why you see him coming after him, storing every punch he can to bring down desantis. throw out the nicknames, whatever will stick. >> on that point, the two social post we just put up, older and wiser, he will have to deal with

fake stories such as when he is unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman, even classmates under age or possibly a man. i think that underscores your point. the florida governor took a lot of flak from the media saying that u.s. aid to ukraine, it was not a vital interest just a territorial dispute between russia and the ukrainian people. let's see how he walked that back more than a little bit in the interview with piers morgan. >> russia invaded that. that was wrong. >> -- >> he is basically a gas station with a bunch of nuclear weapons. i think he is a war criminal. >> a very different tone. getting hammered by the media. is this a 180? >> i kind of think it is a flip-flop. i think he flip-flopped. it is because he knows this is obviously a significantly more serious circumstance. i think that goes without saying. as you become a national

candidate, you have to have the talking points of a national candidate. we want to support the ukrainian people. we cannot simply stand by while russia gobbles up bits and pieces of europe. before he was sort of playing to the crowd a little bit. >> susan, when you flip-flop as a politician, towards a position the press favors, 90% is very supportive of u.s. aid to ukraine, then you get a pass. no flip-flopping, he is just with us. little nuances. >> i think his flip-flopping is a lot to do on the republican party. they are really divided right now on foreign entanglements. i think desantis was testing the waters on a more populous field. we do not want to keep getting involved in these foreign wars while diverting billions of dollars when we need that money at home. we don't want to get our military involved in this overseas. that is a very popular viewpoint

and the republican party. then he got a lot of backlash. a tough world leader standing up against putin. he has his foot on both sides. that is exactly what i saw happening. it made it look like a big flip-flop. always consider to be a stumble for a new candidate trying to figure out where they are on it. howard: it is a popular position in the party. laura ingram got a lot of attention of giving the former president some campaign advice. roll it. >> if i were trump and running his campaign, i would strongly urge him to stop talking about 2020. it is over. enough. marinating in old claims of election fraud will not win over a single vote or in any state that he needs to win in 2024. >> kevin, trump did not take the advice last night. >> i think he should stop. i agree with laura on this. it is just not going to do

anything for people that are interested in what we're doing moving forward. 2020 is in the rearview mirror let's look at the windshield. howard: it does not expand his base. whether he has a political base or not and this has not been proven. >> achilles' heel, really for his entire campaign. if you drop that and focus on the future of those swing states would be viable for him again. i think the common notion is that that is where key will lose the very critical independent and, you know, soft republican vote. people will turn out for them if they just say we are sick for the guy. focus on the future. i think that gives him a shot. howard: let me get a break. a conservative magazine editor says republicans are delusional if they think joe biden will bed easy to beat. is that right? ♪ charging something like a hundred bucks a window when other guys were charging four to five-hundred bucks.

very close. a lot of those states were tossed out well beyond midnight as we discussed. i do think that he is right in this sense. if you think this is a cakewalk, you are nuts. >> susan, obviously, it is still early. a lot could happen. the press has a history of underestimating joe biden. many said he should not run. this critique comes from one of those prominent conservatives in the media. >> i think it comes down to a bot of factors. one being how good the republicans are this time i get in the vote out. the democrats came up with ways, to get more people on their side to vote. republicans have been resistant to a lot of these efforts. president trump has been resistant. same day voting. totally against other, you know, ways of people voting through the mail or ballot boxes.

these are things that will really hurt republicans on election day if they stick with that old plan they used in the last election. democrats were ahead because i got more people to come out and vote. it depends on how each of the candidates stand on that issue. whether they alienate female voters for pushing towards more severe abortion restrictions. what will be a economy be like? whether people can tolerate trump's personality versus biden's age. howard: we cannot necessarily assume that donald trump will not be the nominee. on the other hand, president biden just hit 38% in the last ap poll. some pundits have pointed out that biden is not making moves towards the middle. considering a policy at the border also vetoing the d.c. criminal code which outrageously lowered sentences for a lot of violent crimes and breaking the
