else happened? >> my friend introduced me he to my soon to be wife. we started to build a relationship and it was one of the best decisions i think i ever made. she is one of the best things that ever happened to me. >> you both have a podcast. you have a studio in the house. >> i ammash yeah and devon. >> what made you guys decide to do relationships? >> we wanted to bring the real back to relationships. a lot of these especially on social media nowadays you see a lot of kids putting up a facade. they want to show the picture perfect pictures and relationship. >> when leah was diagnosed with cancer a lot of focus was on me and leah. one of the foundations during that time was -- i'm promising to be by your side every step of the way like you were for me. >> leah is from a previous relationship. it would have been able to step up. it was a blessing to have her in

my life. >> how often does leah have to go to the hospital? >> now we only have to go once a year. we actually have a doctor's a pointment today. >> we're here at texas children's hospital in houston. >> the largest cancer and blood disorder clinic in the country. she had high risk stage 4, 1 of the toughest diseases we have to treat. >> you were diagnosed when you were four? >> i knew something bad was happening but i didn't know what it was or what it could do. >> what do you feel when you walk back in here? >> it is not bad. there were good times in the hospital. we would do it -- >> this weekend will be your eighth year anniversary since you went into remission for cancer. how did that make you feel? >> it made me feel really good.

i have come a long way. >> it was amazing when she first started playing soccer. those milestones are in jeopardy when your child is diagnosed with cancer. i got to see what my parents felt like when i was growing up. being in the stands and being proud of the child. >> i hate being known as the girl what has cancer. i want to be known as leah and now i'm known as devon still's daughter. >> i'm known as her dad. >> devon, a big thing for you and part of the still strong foundation is focusing on parents and mental health. you were in the hospital for a long time as well. >> i don't think you really understand the changes you are going to go through psychologically. it was tough to have to deal with. i wanted to take my experience with leah battling cancer and my experience in a mental health field to help families deal with cancer. >> he has helped a lot of families. >> this man was put on earth not

just to be a famous football player but in a bigger world now to help with the mental health of our patients and their families. >> you look back and hear that all the time and you wonder if it can be true, maybe god had a different plan for you. >> i honestly believe that is true. the way my life is turning out, the one thing i had to learn is to learn how to let go of the things that happen to me and my family. but also let go of the things that didn't happen. when i was able to let go of that i could focus on the future and embrace what life had for me and it is turned out my life has turned out. i tell my wife all the time, i can't believe the things that we went through but the things that we've been able to accomplish together. it has been a roller coster. if i would have gave up when things got hard i wound be able to experience the blessings we're experiencing right now. >> i said to rachel this weekend when we did this, there are certain people you meet when we
