country for generations. new wall street journal polls showing patriotism, religious faith, having children and hard work have declined in importance to americans. check this out, patriotism plummeted over the past 25 years. back in 1998, 70% of those surrendered ranked it as being very important to them. now just 38% feel that way. more than 60% said religion was important. today less than 40%. and family values like having children also have dropped sharply. in 1998, 59% of americans believed having children was very important. now just 30% do. the polls are not entirely surprising, we have seen the deterioration of america's core values. distortion of the american flag, as symbol of patriotism to one

of oppression. kneeling for national anthem, that was applauded, pretty widely. the kneeling of a christian high school football coach in prayer on another football field, that got him fired. meanwhile children are being taught that america is systemically racist and for those of you without kids, while the left says don't have them for the sake of the planet. the polls just reaffirm what we've been witnessing for decades, the decline of american values that helped define the national character of our country. harris, you look at the direction particularly of our young people, the fentanyl overdoses, 1 in 3 girls considering suicide. social media dictions, maladies plaguing a generation and have you to believe this has something to do with deterioration of faith, and country. >> i was reading recently, i

kavanaugh, the casinos are open, the church doors are shut, it doesn't take supreme court justices to do that. it should be in the heart of americans, the cultural heart, houses of worship, even if you are not a person of faith they are important for those who do process faith. >> i am glad this segment has come up. for all the hard news there is also news like this that endures and it really scratches the itch of what is wrong with america, the lack of patriotism, our feelings about cultural matters and personal family matters. there is a reason we look back in time and call one generation of americans the greatest generation. and when you talk about them being the greatest, what made them great? they defeated the nazis, what were their morals, they are a religious people, they were married, they had all the patriotism, it's the very thing this poll talks about prevalent into the 90s brought to us by

the greatest generation by the baby boomers, we slid away from it. it's a feeling like something is unmoored in our society. and you know, from a personal point of you vehicle i was raised saying a prayer every night and every morning. and then i got away from it for decades, i started doing that a year ago, there is a feeling of soul, of peace from doing that, it's little things, things you want to teach to your children, hope for younger generations, i love what you said, praying in public. let other people see it. there is something strong about that. >> thank you, not everybody agrees with that. >> it's so well said, you know. cheryl, we pray with my daughter before we go to bed, now my son. we read her a bible story. no matter what faith you are, for me that is my place of faith. my daughter is going to have something, when the going gets tough, the social media viral issues come, the eating

disorders, the pressures, she is going to have something to look to, this is bigger than what i am facing i think this is what i am missing. >> i'm episcopal, one of the things that the church gives to my family is a sense of community and a place to go to be together, to celebrate, to be grateful. and so many things in this new poll i found you see a lack of those especially the younger generation, i call them the snowflake generation, they are not grateful for the greatest generation which was my grandfather who fought in world war ii, my grandparents who were children during the great depression, who didn't have any food on the table. and especially when you look at this poll, i was looking at them and their views of the economy, 80% said the nation's economy is pouring out so good. 47% said it's getting worse. that is true, we are going into a recession. a lot of these younger folks, i hate to target the under 30 but i am going to. they've never been through the

great recession, 2008 financial crisis. they think that starbucks and having a fully charged iphone are the most porridge things, that they should have every day and it's not. with all the job losses we're starting to see especially in technology companies i think that it makes me sad but i'm not surprised by the numbers that i found in this poll. >> to that point, marie, you brought up money. marie, look at this, this was so sad. the only priority the journal tested that has group in importance in the past quarter century is money which is cited as very important 43%. tolerance for others deemed very important by 80% in 1998, now down to 58%. so, love of money up, lack of tolerance ever present. >> and corporate prophets off the chart. the middle class struggling. we talk about -- cheryl touched on that. it's been a hard 20 years since this poll was conducted, we went

through the great recession, iraq war, 20 years of war not just in iraq but in afghanistan. you have to look at it in that sense. for me the thing about patriotism i always liked, for me a definition of our country has always been perfect, always right, we talk about the greatest generation, my grandfather was part of that. our country was still segregated in the 40s and 50s. we fought for minorities, women, and it's an ever continuing process of getting toward that more perfect union. and i think what a lot of democrats might say, i don't represent all of them, what a lot might say the word patriotism has been weaponized politically. a around the iraq war, around issues after 9/11. and religion has been in some ways weaponized, if you don't pray or believe certain parts of the country that somehow people are made to feel less than. and the beauty

all right. so, we are first getting reports of a shooting at an elementary school in

nashville, tennessee. yes, i said an elementary school. the fire department says multiple victims, and there is an active scene going on right now at the christian academy. the national police department tweeted this in part, an active shooter event has taken place at covenant school, covenant presbyterian church, the shooter was engaged by the police department there. shoot ter is dead. reunification with parents is under way. you may know as we are saying the same reports on all the ones who did not survive. we are going to wait to confirm the deaths of anyone in this when we can do that through fox news. what we can tell you is coming directly from the fire and police department that there are multiple victims in this elementary school shooting in nashville, tennessee. we'll check back on all this, this is

going to change rapidly, we can tell already. a marine veteran and a dad who survived three tours in iraq and afghanistan did not survive a violent carjacking in los angeles. aaron arosco was working as an uber driver to pay the bills. he began working nights so he could watch his young children during the day while his wife was working as a nurse. police say he was shot to death at a 7-eleven. he shot him and pushed his body on into the parking lot and left him to die. police are still hunting down the armed carjackers, aaron arosca was 38 years old, his wife was left behind who was his high school sweetheart. she is living a nightmarement he spoke

example overnight in los angeles, the crime story, yes. obviously. but the crime is he was having to drive an uber just to get by. all the tax money that i pay, i wish it went to him, not to forgive student loan debt. >> that's so well. so, many unanswered questions here. his body was apparently pushed into the parking lot while one of the suspects fled on foot and the other drove off in the stolen car. he leaves behind a 9 year old and 3 year old. some of the words of his now widow sandra, we've been married for ten years but been together since high school, high school sweethearts. she no longer has her beautiful high school sweetheart and the part that really got me, i haven't even told my kids yet. they still think dad is going to come through the door. i can't imagine the loss of their high school sweetheart and telling your 9 year old and 3 year old that daddy is never coming home.

shortly. this is nashville, tennessee. covenant school here. this is pre-k-6th grade. web the last hour there has been a shooting there. we've been telling you about everything we can learn, the details are slow to come in. so, metro police in nashville are investigating the shooting at the covenant presbyterian school. three students were shot, that much we know. we are working to confirm at fox whether or not those three are safe now. if they are in recovery. other outlets are reporting that is not the case. we are still working. we don't want to get it wrong. we can tell you that the shooter is dead. the shooter according to rapider built university medical center has passed away. a student reunification, i gave you this address earlier, woodmont baptist church, 2100 woodmont boulevard. i am also

we have breaking news now, we can confirm the deaths of three children at the christian academy school covenant. this is nashville, tennessee. we knew the shooter had been taken there and the shooter was dead. he had engaged with the metro police department in nashville. that's what they are saying. now, they took him out. pretty early. we don't have any details. we don't know the age of that person who is the shooter. we don't know anything about that person. we can tell you that these children will be between the ages of

preschool and 6th grade. that's a very young group of people at the he will elementary school here. you know, it's always interesting with these scenes, can you tell the urgency went away quickly in terms of trying to take someone out, that active shooter situation. you stop seeing swat vehicles go back and forth and that sort of thing. now we are in the zone of waiting to hear are any others shot in this? is we know of three children dead. vanderbilt medical staff has their media relations department has confirmed that they took those three children in. there was an all-call mass casualty alert for all hospitals near the school. this elementary school covenant inside of a church in nashville. and so everybody was prepared. but the four people were shot including the shooter who engaged with metro police in nashville, and the three children. we don't know you
