jonathan is at atlantic with the latest. jonathan customer >> the police are investigating a positive motive also looking at surveillance video from the school they got the call around 1015 this morning. an active shooter at the school, gunfire erupted at this private christian school in nashville upscale green hills community officers of enter the building and ended up clear in the first floor when they heard gunfire from a second-floor lobby area and then headed in that direction. >> when the officers got the second level they saw a shooter of female, who is firing and the officers engaged her. she was fatally shot by responding police officers. >> they say it was 828-year-old nashville area woman who at some point had attended the school would serve students in preschool-6 grade. i have notified families of the victims which include three adult staff members and three children survivors of the attack

more information. we've also determine that there were maps drawn to the school in detail of surveillance entry points, et cetera. we know and believe that entry was gained through shooting through one of the doors is how they actually got into the school. i want to take the time to at least say and i do not want to save the victims names come out of the six victims, three adults, three of those were children. two of them were age nine, one was eight years old about to be nine. all of the families have been contacted. the victims families have been contacted as well. my thoughts and prayers go out to the family. when we send our kids to school or to any place of safety we

expect them to live, learn, have fun and come back. from that day. we do not anticipate things like this. i want to say thank you to our partners. to the chief, to our mayor for his support, tour federal partners, but also want to say thank you to our first responders who got there and immediately went in and addressed a threat of someone that have multiple rounds of ammunition prepared for a confrontation with law enforcement, prepared to do more harm than was actually done we were able to stop the threat and unfortunately six victims. my thoughts and prayers again the praise goes to the men and women as i've said before we will not wait, i was hope in the state would never ever come here

role in the motivation of the shooting the police chief said that he will get to that later this evening. spew for what i can tell you is this it was clearly targeted, she had maps, surveillance, she knew where she was going. she is connected to the school. my referring to her as she or him, i don't know. all i know is this. when we talk about security, our schools are not secure and hardened enough. apparently there was a door open but it's more complicated because it's connected to a church. wherever we have children with a soft target. i don't care she, or what it is. mentally i do not care. children need to be protected and that means a lack of security is partly responsible for what is going on here. we have school resource officers, we have to have security people in our schools, we have to have a lockdown, we

have to make sure that we at least understand that this can happen in any school and any town in america. now this is a great police department. they were in there within 14 minutes and took out the target within 14 minutes. the target was able to legally possess guns, we are going to have an argument about that is whether or not she should have had those guns, how she got those guns, what was your background? what was her mental stability? did anybody know that she had any mental problems? or any instability problems? and why target children? why go from the first floor to the second floor to target children? why would anyone want to target children? if she had a beef with someone because she had gone to the school, or he had gone to the school the past, okay. we can understand that. to literally take children out is unforgivable, it is evil personified. >> jesse: the chief said that

the shooter was prepped and ready with a lot of rounds before being engaged and taken out. >> there was a lot of planning and documentation that they found back at the home that she lived with her father there is a manifesto that was left behind, a map of the school and at a potentially motivation that they are releasing maybe the next couple of hours. i like to know if they are investigating this as a hate crime it is a christian school. we also know at the beginning of the month governor of tennessee recently signed legislation is passed to ban the transitioning of children given who this individual was i would like to know if that had some ado with that we will certainly find outcome of the police did what they were trained to do. there were not cowardly. they went in and they limited to the threat. security is a huge issue for the schools. the fact that they could go through the side door means that security needs to be taken more seriously it's really easy to be comfortable, but something that serves the needs more inve investment.
