[cheering] b6 thoughts on tops of two storms barreling down deadly tornadoes ripping through the midwest and the south yet again this weekend. at least 11 are known dead including five in arkansas. we are going to talk to the mayor of little rock and a little bit what is town is waking up to right now. then the illegal storm for when donald j trump yearly can live it more log of the former president is now. come tuesday he's going to courthouse in in lower manhattan or they're getting ready for something that could be surreal.

bring in those indictments on tuesday. donald trump has been calling the indictment political persecution for his former vice president says, on this he is right. mike pence tells us why he is defending his former boss despite not speaking to him in more than two years. welcome everybody i am neil cavuto. happy to have you not so happy with the storms yet again. another weekend to the south and in this case much of the midwest portion of the country. let's get the latest in arkansas where a resident are trying to determine the damage of the deadly tornadoes. max gorden and little rock. >> hey neil comic devastation here in little rock. scenes you can see behind me looks like a bomb went off in this neighborhood. one confirmed dead here in little rock, arkansas. for others it dead in wang, arkansas. thirty here in little rock injured because of this tornado. the tornado here and little rock

touchdown about 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon. as a twister tour through the city the national weather service office in little rock had to transfer duties to the memphis office or the meteorologist took shelter. homes and businesses are ripped apart by this tornado. in the wake of destruction and emergency crews went to search and rescue mode. residents were told to stay away from the area damaged by the tornado. at least 30 people in the little rock had to be taken to the hospital according to the mayor and or fox affiliate confirmed one desperate even though warnings were sent out about the pure storms he twister still took some by surprise. he was a one man who said he was out shopping when he had to run for cover in the store. >> i got in, huddled up against the >> barrier, every single glass window blew out and people were blown back. i held on it must had been a minute just huddled, i thought it was a goner for sure. >> and when it come arkansas another turn and instruct that only 8000 people.

four people died there brainstorm each agent said they had to help pull people from the rubble is extensive damage reported there including damage to a school port in addition to the deaf in illinois because of a roof collapse of one person also died in alabama. in all there were more than 50 tornadoes reported friday. at least seven states. they're also one or 56 hail reports and 206 damaging wind reports. here at the national guard is out and about helping residents who have been impacted by this tornado in little rock. there's also shelters available for people who have lost everything, neil. six thanks for that, max gordon we promise we had the little rock america should join us shortly on the show. this is a widespread storm. we are focusing on a couple of states but this went across eight states right now, what can you tell us? >> good morning, neil. i can tell you people were here in illinois enjoying a concert when that severe weather we

talked about all afternoon and all evening long and just created chaos here. as max just mentioned killed one person, at least a 28 people have injuries. five of those injuries are critical. and it neil, i want to show you again we were talking about the wind gusts all day and all afternoon and all evening yesterday. it was telling people they should expect to wind gusts up to 75 miles per hour. what we are looking out behind me is what wins that strong here can do. we know 260 people are inside apollo theater. the morbid angel concert here. they started to receive around 8:25 p.m. we believe now a tornado hit this community at about 8:40 p.m. not nothing is confirmed just yet. we are waiting on the national weather service to confirm our raters indicate there was some rotation. we believe there was a tornado. i just want patrick to zoom and

because i do not know if you can see it there is a car right there stuck underneath what appears to be some type of debris, may be a roof. here in sina last night, these barriers more upper and south state street where we are located per just really a sad situation. people were out trying to enjoy a concert on friday night and severe weather created chaos for so many famines are thoughts and prayers are with all involved here. >> absolutely bread thank you very much for that. updating that on what you have heard 11 known dead across the south right now. you're also getting word 40000 people who are without power as we speak. it has involve more than seven tornadoes and large hailstorms across arkansas, should say, iowa, indiana and illinois. there were 20 tornado storm warnings that were active

simultaneously, at one point last evening. we have never seen that. secondly, the northeast is threatened with high wind st storms, even the potential of tornadoes sporadically in that area of the country. we are keeping an eye on all of that. also keeping an eye on political storms including the one involving donald j trump at one ticket and margo lago right now the former president is on his trip to manhattan on monday. appearing at a lower courthouse to deal with this indictment and be formally arraigned. jonathan has more. >> good morning to you, neil. former president trump was reportedly at the mar-a-lago estates when the news of this indictment was handed down. this is where he is spending the weekend here in palm beach at his estate he is expected to depart to new york on monday where he will overnight at trump

tower. and then appear in court on tuesday. all of that transpiring in new york. there is already heavy security outside of the manhattan courthouse where the met arraignment is meant to take place a source tells fox news a former president will not be handcuffed during this process based on an agreement with the district attorney's office for the indictment remains under seal dirt however the former president reportedly faces more than 30 counts on this arraignment sources tell the "new york post" at least one of those counts involves a felony charge of falsifying business records in connection with hush money allegedly paid to pouring star stormy daniels for this type of charge would be considered a low level felony and carry a maximum prison sentence of four years. the post points out it could also lead to probation without incarceration. >> three years they have investigated this is what they come up with a non- crime they try to cream ice on the federal statute they clearly do not understand they have come back and said no offense there is no

violation, not even close of campaign finance laws. >> on his "truth social" platform mr. trump writes the radical left democrats of lying, cheating, stolen their maniacal obsession now they've gone too far indicting a totally innocent man and it act of obstruction and blatant election interference. after tuesday's hearing the former president is expected to head back directly to mar-a-lago here in palm beach, back to you, neil. >> thank you jonathan. jonathan serrie on all of that. on this and those competing with the former president for the republican nomination agree this entire indictment is unfair, unjust and a leap they say a weaponization of the legal authority of what alvin bragg and district office. including the former vice president of the united states, mike pence, take a look.

but see unprecedented indictment of a former president of the united states on a campaign finance issue, is outrageous. the details that will follow will not change that fact. i think millions of americans looking on see this for what it is. it is a political prosecution by a manhattan d.a. who literally campaign for office on a pledge to indict the former president. the attorney general of new york at campaign office on a pledge to go after that same american. and this is not an expression of equal treatment under the law that every american deserves. and i think that is why the american people not having any of it. look, i know president trump can take care of himself. i am sure he will prosecute this case in the courtroom. and, as his lawyer's will. but, at the end of the day this

is just one more example of the two-tiered justice system that has so many americans are literally questioning the fundamental fairness of the administration of justice in our country. i think it is deeply unfor unfortunate. ask if there are reports there were other women involved and there were other paychecks involved in other payments involved, does it escalate for you and to you? beyond what you're saying now, if you had only known that you would not have told me what you just did. >> look, we are going off a lot of speculation here about what the accusations are. but, i think you ought to consider the source here. that is a liberal democrat partisan prosecutor who initially passed on bringing these charges. federal prosecutors who reviewed

the same facts and did it pass on bringing charges. and again, i think this just smacks of the kind of criminalization of politics that the american people have had enough of it. we sense, and this country today under the biden administration and radical democrats around the country, one set of standards for conservatives and republicans. one set of standards for democrats. and as i said, i think it is all setting into motion forces that are going to bring about tremendous change come 2024 all across this country. because the american people believe in fairness. they believe in equal treatment before the law. think they're going to be electing people from local prosecutors office to the highest office in the land that will stand on the principle of the rule of law. a former president of the united states issues surrounding campaign-finance, to me it did

not even come close to rising to the level of the first indictment ever of eight former president of the united states. and i do believe the american people see it no other way. neil: and many in your party do agree. in fact i want to get the bottom of alvin bragg what he did and whether he weaponize to his office to do what he has done and to make this multi- count indictment. i am just wondering though whether you think the house which now wants to talk to him, and get him to testify is doing the same thing, weapon i think it's a powers to get revenge? >> look, have to tell you i am someone who believes in federalism. as wrong as this d.a. is, i'm a check in my spirit about the federal government becoming involved in local law enforcement or prosecutions.

i would want our friends in the congress to be judicious about that, careful about that. they can certainly ask questions. but at the end of the day i think this is a matter of the american people see through. they see politics is driving this decision. hooks i'm sorry just to be clear you would be against what they are doing to try to bring them to the hill to talk to them about this case you don't think that's a good idea? >> i served on the judiciary committee in my years of the congress of the united states for the congress has every right to ask whatever questions they want to ask. but, i think beginning with the premise even that bad decisions by state and local government are still in element of federalism in the country. i would want them to temper their inquiries to respect federalism. but, at the end of the day i think the american people do see through this.

neil: of a lot of drum is concurrently going investigations of the former president. one that you were just sort of dragged into when a judge asked and forced you to testify this grand jury investigation into the generous six attack. first of all, are you going to follow through on that? >> well obviously i cannot talk about it to any great extent. because it is that matter involving the grand jury, neil. i can tell you i am very pleased that the court recognized, for the first time in history, the constitution speech and debate protections extended to my role as vice president serving as the president of the senate. i truly believe the initial subpoena was unconstitutional. in the court recognized, for the first time ever that those constitutional protections did extend to me as vice president in that role. i met today with my attorneys, we are going to be continuing to

sort out the best way forward. but i am at least grateful the court recognized what some people were quick to dismiss. it was in fact the right position for a student for the constitution, doing my duty on january the sixth. and in this instance i wanted to make sure we were upholding the separation of powers provision in the constitution of the united states as well. neil: you suspect that an alien and you with donald trump ever since. the whole grand jury investigation, as you know farber the nicer, it is about whether the former president tried to overturn the 2020 election. do you think he did? >> look, i know i did my duty that day. under our system of government state certified elections and the only role of the congregation and check of the united states as i was presiding

suit there's a process members of congress offer objections for the last three elections democrats or republicans prevailed, democrats actually also brought objections. it's ordinary comments under the law. but clearly the president had legal advisors in his ear that convinced him that i had authority to overturn the election. but as i have said before, plana, president trump was wr wrong. i had no right to overturn the election that day and i will always believe by god's grace we did our duty under the constitution of the united states. we have just gone our separate way, neil. neil: mom was the last time you guys talked or communicated? >> i've not spoken to the president since we moved home to indiana about two years ago. my focus has been on my family. three new granddaughters came along. on our kids, two of whose family

served in the armed forces of the united states. and working hard to help elect republicans and those midterm elections and travel around the country supporting the conservative cause. that is where we will remain focused. >> if i can finally serve tied together you mentioned the case of alvin bragg and his 34 count indictment whatever becomes of these multiple accounts and details of what they are, who they evolved, there are all these other investigations going on concurrently. you mention the generous six the one we also get into the georgia criminal inquiry whether he was trying to up and that what was going on at the time there are a number of potential indictments be on these that could come his way, then what? is he and do you think he would be damaged goods running for president? >> that would be up to the american people. it is a long way between accusations, investigations and even indictments.

would not want to speculate on the impact of those things. i know the president well enough to know that donald trump can take care of himself. i am sure he will defend his interest. star i'm sorry sir but if you were to run against him, you would not mention these concurrent investigations? especially if they're going on, there are issues here. >> from my standpoint if i was at the end of the race i would be talking more about the need to strengthen our military. to stand tall in the world began to meet america's obligations as leader of the free world. i would talk but how you pursue policies to get the economy growing again and how we bring common sense and compassionate reforms to entitlements to avoid the national debt crisis that is facing future generations of americans. i will be champion the cause of life defending american liberties. and on many of those issues the

president and i have a difference of opinion as i do with other people who may be running as well. if i get in the race lb focusing on the choice the american people have and not the latest drama coming out of washington d.c. neil: you have said i believe cert you plan to support whoever the ultimate republican nominee is for president. donald trump has not indicated. there are others open on that subject. do you still stand on that question rick and if do and assuming donald trump could be your nominee and you do support him, how do you feel about the possibility that he would not return the favor let's say if it were you? >> neil, i will tell you my wife and i are sorting through our sense of calling whether or not will enter the national race. i'll express myself about other candidates in the future. but when i've got to tell you when comes into my former running mate i honestly believe

we will have better choices by the fall of 2024-point look, i don't think anyone could have defeated hillary clinton in 2016 other than donald trump i think different caught times call for different leadership routes i traveled on the country hear people tell me two things. number one, we've got to get back to the policies of the trump/pence administration. until that pandemic left america stronger, more prosperous that any time in my lifetime. and in the same breath people tell me they want to get back to a level of civility and respect in our public debate that used to be the norm, not just to long ago. you look at the major challenges we are facing after the failed policies of the biden administration the advances of the radical left we have got to find a way to talk to one another in politics the way the american people deal with each other every single day.

from my standpoint there is a desire for new leadership, new direction that also means a new tone in politics. if we can contribute to that i promise you i will keep you posted. this former vice president mike pence on all of that. i want to go to kevin o'brien the former assistant u.s. attorney. it could be at bedlam i understand that we could be closing off the area so maybe not as much traffic as some feared. let's get the latest from kevin on what we can expect and how tuesday will likely unfold. kevin, good to have you. they made to certain agreements that is the former president's legal team work with the secret service working presumably with ellen bragg's team. how do you expect all this to go down? >> i think and i hope it will be uneventful it should be. there may be crowds outside but the basic work that has to be

done should be achieved fairly swiftly as i understand he is going to be processed, fingerprinted all of that. very typical. and then he has got to be arraigned that's the first appearance before court and probably the most important item there is the setting of bail. i have heard i do not know this firsthand i have heard that is been prearranged as well that he will be released on his own recognizance or something like that. and that is it. what happens after that is really up to mr. trump. he is free to fly back tomorrow lago. is he free to continue campaigning for the presidency? >> absolutely. neil: nothing changes in that regard in terms of his day-to-day if a trial amount so it would still be a year or more off i understand it. >> i agree it's going to take a long time. there's going to be a lot of

off a runway i should say. he will use that of course to head to new york on monday. ahead of his formal arraignment on this 30 plus count indi indictment, tuesday and the lower manhattan corporate we are told it could be very quick we are told traffic has been cleared in the lower manhattan area for what some theater could be a zoo. we do not know much more than that. we do know that donald trump in the campaign has raised about $4 million in the 24 hours since this indictment first announced. during the foxnews decision desk, there is no doubt this has been a rallying for super not only those who love the former president, but those who feel he is being unfairly maligned here. they may not love him but it has rallied sort of funding and support in the polls. i have not seen polls since the indictment. i suspect they may show even

more social support at least among republicans. what are you hearing on that front? >> we were in the field in the last week is all this was going down, which is always the case in the middle of a survey when some major news event comes out. i will give the numbers we asked about the pending indictment, but the case itself. we found most republicans, 13% said they thought donald trump had done something illegal for 38% something unethical maybe but not illegal in 45% said he had done nothing at all wrong. that is compared to democrats 78% said he did something illegal. and then 13% sent unethical, only 8% said he had done nothing wrong. that party divide is really impressive. as you were suggesting you only get 13% of republicans saying something illegal they are obviously looking at this case and a very different way. the prosecution takes on a real partisan tent. neil: i just wonder at this case

obviously which might not go to trial, if it ever does for at least another year old in the throes of the presidential race big time by then. but then you have all of these other cases looking into the january 6 assault on the hill, you have the one that looks at the georgia election what role the former president might have played to influence a recount that we were going on i could go on and on but they are backing up like planes at palm inc. international or laguardia at. [laughter] i wonder how that plays out? >> you know, there is a political side that's fun and do not go on twitter very often. but sometimes they want to figure out what my colleagues are saying about the split literature and data they are invoking. there is little bit of a consensus out there. people want the scandal literature the negativity that's out there in political science. the dominant lesson is it is not the case that any publicity is good publicity.

the drip, drip, drip really does have consequences for political candidates. donald trump is the one that is one. the other thing i point to is a very, very prominent line of thought that said voters themselves take their cues, they see the political world through the eyes of you know, party officials and party elites that they trust and find credible. i think a really interesting component of this is how do the republican -- how does the republican establishment react to this? it is funny i think voters are looking to republican elites and candidates for clues and republican candidates are looking to voters for clues. nobody wants to make a move on this and say the president has done something wrong or no, the press as a victim of a witch hunt. it's like a movie where everybody's got a gun pointed everyone else but no one wants to point the trigger. no one wants to make the first move, right?

neil: is weird if i had a dime for every time someone is counting the former president out, even back to the early days of his campaign and allegations and statements that were thought to doom him, he has survived them all. he has survived two different impeachment votes, he has weathered those is whether all these latest allegations. but that might be to your point among the republican base the fact that all of his opponents likely are those to announce down the road themselves, you just said mike pence on, art saying this is an unfair abuse of a power on the part of alvin bragg. his party. it's very clear not that they are doing his bidding but it looks like they are doing his bidding. so i am just wondering where this goes? >> one of the many things i have been surprised about over the last six years now, seven since trump's ascendancy, is to point

he hasn't basically taken over the republican party both psychologically and a lot of these organizations. and, at this series of advents of this particular episode as you point out subsequent episodes allows him to make this case to republican officials, then he could be an even better position heading into 2024 which is unthinkable in a lot of ways but here we are. neil: you never know my friend you never know for darren, thank you for coming out on a saturday have always appreciated. brainiac on all things political and much, much more. in the meantime we are keeping track of that nasty weather across the country, already 11 known dead intern as in other storms that with to the south but now we are threatening the northeaster. that is a separate issue but will get the latest from none other than the mayor of little rock who was particularly hit w hard, right afteour this. if th'n i'm not going to be nervous.

another and coming up are looking for that for tuesday is her biggest severe weather event right across the heartland there at the country again. here's our temperatures, temperatures still really warm because of that we still have more severe weather to get through today. right now we had pretty severe weather down across parts of the southeast throughout the early morning hours we had a couple tornado warnings ineffective. that has alt moderated a little bit. later on in the day we will see more severe weather fire here. the northeast we've got a lot of showers. what you see behind that is the clearing patch right there. we are going to see the sun come out because of the warmer and that is in place we will get a lot of that energy going again. when the center of the storm which is back here across parts of the great lakes get closer to the east coast that is moot will see severe weather fire up again this afternoon. take a look at this the northern side of this, this read a largely strong winds. once you get around new jersey maybe upstate new york or toward the hudson valley we could see a tornado or two today across parts of the north.

that timing would be somewhere between around 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. this afternoon into the evening but watch for that by the same goes down your across parts of the southeast. the front will continue to push off toward the east. as it does we will see some the storms potentially be severe. this year we get the clearing and that comment right there that line and what will be the most severe weather behind this parable to the temperatures drop down again later on. i would say what, neil, this really active spring pattern we see even throughout the winter months does not seem to be breaking it all the next severe weather threat comes in for us again on tuesday. and by the way that spot again were going to sing a lot of rain across on the series that saw all the significant tornadoes. neil: just incredible. thank you for following all that very closely and thank goodness. i want to go to frank scott junior at the mayor of little rock hit particularly hard. mayor, how are things looking there? >> things are devastating for the impact of the tornado wiped

out a portion of little rock and a portion of southwest little rock to the tune of 2100 residents have been impacted. many are being displaced, if by the grace of god we did not experience any totality's. we are working on response and recovery. we also in win, arkansas which is east portion of arkansas which had two deaths. they received a lot of flattening as well. so we're out in in the neighborhoods right now surveying areas removing trees and debris and focus on response and recovery. it looks like a lot of those roads are virtually interoperable so how are you dealing with that comment mayor? >> we are working diligently with the fire department, the police department, public works area making roads impassable

that are completely impassable right now so we can focus on all of our utilities print right now with that about 30,000 little rock residents who are without electricity as well as focused on securing the gas leaks being impacted at this point in time. neil: and mayer, this whole thing happened in tornadoes that folks do not get a lot of warning for a lot of this was said and then there is the issue of multiple tornadoes and st storms, could you share with us what you knew what you experience, what you saw? >> we definitely had our eyes watching the radar and receiving information from the weather center as we began to take cover and alerted everyone to take cover during that period of t time. we state updated on all things going on and grateful for the response of our first responders. i could not be more proud of the men and women of the little rock police department and fire

department or emergency operations, public works department, we are all working on one accord. the communication is seamless we need to declare the declaration of state of emergency from the governor, he quickly accepted and making search and we have all the resources we need, when we needed to get things done. so we are just very grateful for the teamwork that we have here. in the arkansas state capitol city. neil: they say the same about you, mayor and how helpful you have been in dealing with this. now we are told more storms could be on the way. how do your folks prepare for that? >> we just stay prepared. we stay on the ratings. so we don't have to get ready. we have a lot of training as it relates to the emergency response that we often do so when incidents like this happen that we are not getting ready, we stay ready.
