recovery process is underway. you can hear chain saws and people are combing through what's left through their homes after ef3 tornado ripped. the tornado hit at 2:22 in the afternoon and according to national weather service. 65 miles per hour. high end ef3 tornado. more than 50 people were injured and one person unfortunately died. the tornado tore up homes and businesses and 2100 and 2600 buildings have been damage. 10,000 customers are still without power and crews have been working to get lights back on and volunteers have been on the ground including one family i talked to who came out to pass water bottles. >> it hit my last night when i tucked both of them and i had a roof over my head and i had running water and heat and

electricity and they were in their bed safe and you see what these people are going through and devastation isn't even a word and it really isn't. when dad says no, you can have this. >> one shelter is open for people who can't live in their homes. a lot of folks in little rock currently in need. back to you. mike: max gordon from fox weather, thanks a lot. it's clearly severe weather across the midwest and southern u.s., adam klotz is live from the fox weather center, hello, adam. adam: unfortunately we are not done. a little bit of a break on sunday and as we look at the week ahead another round of potentially severe weather is on the way. here is what the satellite and radar looks across the country. mostly quiet today. a couple of disturbances and then we are seeing snow across the interior northwest that is

going to be a system that's going to sweep across the entire country bringing snow, bringing again potentially even some tornadoes by the time we get in the middle of the week. this is the setup for that and by monday the low-pressure system further into the mountains and on the backside of the system, constantly snow maker and constantly temperatures are low and now taking you into tuesday, northern plains to upper midwest and out in front of this system the temperatures are going to get warm and that's going be fueled and maybe isolated tornadoes. winter weather alerts are in place on the backside of the system from wyoming to dakotas and minnesota. this looks all too familiar. very severe setup with two bulls eye and one getting you into the iowa, illinois area and further to the south and this is an area where we can see thunderstorms potentially tornadoes firing up

not surprised by the indictment? >> alvin bragg is probably the most political d's in the country. she's a soros prosecutor. when he came in he immediately said i'm not prosecuting any misdemeanors and about 50% of felonies were reduced to misdemeanors and he also promised before he got into office that he would two after the ex-president and he's saying that before he's had a chance to look at any kind of evidence, that's a sign of politically motivated prosecutor. mike: trump attorney out talking today. let's play it. >> it shouldn't matter what side of the aisle you sit, if you're an american and you're concerned about rule of law, there should be no scenario where you want this to happen because we all know and if you're intellectually honest, we all know that had donald trump not been donald trump and was john smith, it would have been brought. if he was not running for reelection there's no way the case waged have been brought. >> so this is about 2024

politics? >> i think it is and the way to look at this is he's taking what might be a bookkeeping error from almost ten years ago a misdemeanor in new york law and claiming it's a felony because he now says it was a violation of federal campaign finance law. well, the problem with that is he's a local da. he's got no authority over they recall campaign finance law. the two agencies that do, the u.s. justice department and federal election commission where i served as a commissioner, both of them looked at this and decided there was no violation of the law. so this -- this is such a weak, almost non-existent case. mike: would it pass legal muster? >> i don't think it would pass a legal muster. manhattan i think in the last presidential election, 87% of individuals voted against trump and i think he believes they would convict him no matter what the facts and the law are in the case. >> any chance of a change in

venue maybe to county and up state new york? >> i don't think he can get a fair trial in manhattan. mike: that puts a lot of pressure on bragg to deliver? >> certainly does. to give you a quick parallel, remember, the hillary clinton campaign was found guilty of misreporting the payments they made to get the steele dossier prepared. what happened the campaign had to pay 8,000-dollar civil penalty. there were no criminals charges of any kind. mike: do we have any sense of alvin bragg's ultimate ambition, building his name id for good morning after former president trump? >> that's pure speculation but i suspect he wants to become a national figure for the democratic party and he's pursuing a case that even the prior manhattan district attorney refused to pursue

2024, your thoughts? >> i disagree with him on most policy things but he's a decent human being and he believes in democracy and that may not be what republican primary voters are looking for. if you look at the polls trump is dominating in the polls as prominent as desantis and remains to be seen as somebody running a more normal mainstream kind of republican campaign can get any headway at all. >> garrett, does hutchison 2024 move the needle at all? >> i don't think, it's competing for the 1, 2% lane. your poll shows president trump has strongest numbers with republican voters of 54%, ron desantis continues as strongest challenger. he has continued to slip in the polls. president trump has continued to have a stronger position. i think that's attributable to 3 things, one he's starting to campaign, you have seen the cpac

speeches and he has gone to iowa and new hampshire. i think the second part of it is people see desantis as more untested in some of these environments whether it's the pierce morgan interview and the trump indictment has backfired and you are seeing with recent poll. you would think something that i think a lot of folks thought would -- >> mike: fox poll basically showing that president trump seems to be strengthening while governor desantis seems to be weakening slightly to your point, garrett. there's also some interesting flirtation on the democratic side of the equation today. west virginia senator joe manchin, let's play him. >> we will find out if you're going run for president january of 2024. >> my filing date is january 15 in 2024 and i will make my

decision maybe before that. but not until the end of the year i can assure that. mike: senator manchin is the republican's favorite democrat but what about manchin 2024 on the side of things? >> there's a real risk that somebody like joe manchin and maybe he runs as a third-party candidate on the ballot that is being promoted by a group called no labels. they are aggressively seeking ballot access in dozens of states they are on the ballot in 5 states including arizona and colorado and they are look for bipartisan ballot to promote plan chin would be the democrat, somebody line larry hogan would be the other. a third-party will not win the election. what they can to is they can be a spoiler and we've done a lot of work on this and a lot of data analysis and very clear that if somebody like manchin is on the ticket, that would be a

spoiler that would favor the republicans which probably means trump. we are very worried that manchin could help reelect trump if he runs for president so we really hope that he doesn't and he runs for senate in west virginia instead. mike: similar to the dynamic that we saw in '92 ross perot taking away from george herbert walker bush. >> you covered capitol hill, nobody loves the press more than joe manchin. the weather he runs, i don't think he ends up doing it. i would say it plays in larger role which shows in your poll, 50% of democrats don't want joe biden to run again. when you have president trump solidifying 54% of republican voters within a crowded primary field and right now you have someone else a different candidate other than joe biden leading in the dem poll, that's a big problem for joe biden going into 2024 obviously he's got other problems whether it's inflation, crime that your poll show as well. but if you have democratic voters same poll for president

obama and president trump, when you're under 50% that's a disaster just with your base. mike: i would like to get into evan gershkovich who is being held from the wall street journal being held by the russians, matt, what should the administration do about this journalist being held by the russian regime? >> well, i'm certain that they are going pull out the stops to get him released, another barbaric act by the putin regime and biden has been very clear about his approach to russia. unfortunately a lot of republicans haven't including donald trump who has come on fox to say things like russia is going to take all of ukraine and putin is super smart. that kind of thing feeds putin ice ego and also feeds confidence in doing things like kidnapping american journalists and this is just disgusting. >> garrett, your thoughts on wall street journal colleague being held? >> it's very unfortunate. i do agree with matt with one

the small child. details are mirky. we are told that the child was later rescued as it floated down the river. startling to see boy or girl completely alone floating down the river but the sort of thing that happens at our southern border. take a look at the second piece of video also right here in eagle pass, texas dps troopers driving around the neighborhood on eagle pass streets and comes across group of migrants, several of them ended up being from india just to give you an idea how far the folks are coming from. we have been getting a lot of chinese migrants crossing as well. border patrol responded and took them into custody. take a look at this video courtesy of texas dps, stopped a u haul truck in uvalde, they open it up and found 15 illegal immigrants including 3 little children. the driver was a u.s. citizen from missouri. he's now been arrested and charged with m -- human smuggli.

nato announced it's banning staffers from having the chinese-owned app on nato provided devices. for more on this victoria research fellow for national affairs and national security at the heritage foundation joins me now, welcome, victoria. >> thanks, mike, good to be with you. mike: let's start with the heritage foundation's read on u.s.-china relations from a report saying, quote, america's engagement strategy fueled by trade and manufacturing policies that empower the ccp have left the u.s. dependent on the chinese economy and critical supply chains remain wholly dependent on the prc, how alarming is that? >> it's deeply alarming and our president at heritage kevin roberts has op-ed based on the report on fox right now where he makes the point that in the cold war one of the ways we won was by severing the economies of the united states and our allies, our coalition from the soviet economy and that was enormously

effective but in this case we've done the opposite. we've enriched the chinese and we have to figure out how to break this addiction on cheap chinese supply chains for us and allies. good idea for nato to ban tiktok from its phones. mike: u.s. intelligence officials have told law makers that the chinese communist party remain it is most consequential threat to national security. what does the u.s. do about it? >> well, we have to harden our homeland. bill was just reporting on the chinese nationals surging across our open southern border and we also have the fentanyl, the chinese-physical poison surging across the border and we are opening up our phones to tiktok, a chinese sourced intellectual poison that's capturing all of our children. we have to -- we have to protect the homeland. we all -- i'm old enough to remember that two months ago a chinese spy balloon was allowed to drift for days over the

continental united states and we have to get serious to harden the united states against this infiltration and help partners and allies. this is a wake-up call. mike: let's dig in on tiktok, more than 150 million users here in the united states, regular users of this popular app. some talks about banning it. we have seen different government entities ban it. what should we do about it here? >> well, i think we first and foremost need a public relations campaign to point out how toxic this thing is. you know, all of us with kids are seeing these reports of increasing problems in terms of mental health with our young people and tiktok is a symptom of how this is getting into their phones, into their brains and i think it's really outrageous, mike, that president biden is still using this platform that he used it for some clever little st. patrick's david into. that implies to people that the leader of the free world thinks

this is okay, that he in some ways condones it, he participates in it. i think that the administration needs to point out this is toxic to our kids. we do not need it. we should promote u.s.-based platforms that can do the same thing and not let our kids get captured by china. mike: do you think some politicians in washington right now are word about if they try to ban tiktok the backlash from young voters who use this every day? >> yes, indeed. the commerce secretary said as much that you're going to lose all your under 30 voters, but i think we need to talk to them. our kids aren't stupid and point out that there are other options for them if they want to make smart videos, they want to communicate in that fashion. maybe ai will help us out and come up with something new. but make sure they know what they're exposing themselves to when they use this app and as i said provide them with options but that's going to take a very

armed school resources officers at every school in the state, lee's plan would not only cover all tennessee public schools but also would make funding available for private schools to hire armed guards. the plan will obviously need approval from the state legislature but it will require private schools that want to use this type of funding to hire guards at the same leverage of training as those in public schools. the governor also wants to expand a 20 million-dollar proposal for school security guards to include additional funding for private schools, lee touched on school safety in the wake of tragic shooting at covenant school in nashville saying more work needs to be done. >> law enforcement officials and educators across our state have been working for years especially in the last year to strengthen the safety of our schools and that work was not in vain. >> and governor's proposal comes as 9-year-old will kenny is laid

mike: community college in north carolina now looking to potentially revise their rules after a drag queen straddled a girl during a performance that students as young as 14 were invited to attend. for more on this story and others from schools across the country i'm joined by parents defending education investigative fellow alex nester, welcome. >> thanks for having me. mike: this is a family show, what the hell was going on in the north carolina school? >> always a great question. so the community college during pride event had a drag queen and as we just saw in the video the drag queen touched a child inappropriately which raises the question, what policies need to be reconsidered at this school to protect children from adults touching them inappropriately. that's shameful that there are adults standing in the room and

no one is doing anything. mike: it's not like american students are leading the world in all the subjects, what about teaching the basics? >> well, right. students are really far behind after the pandemic, unfortunately because teachers units wanted schools closed for in some cases more than a year. students are struggling academically and emotionally and yet what does this college do, you know, put on a pride event and have a drag queen, you know, there for students. mike: big picture. what is your organization finding about schools hiding a child's gender from their parents? >> yeah, so we actually have a tracker on our website and we tracked 200 school districts which covered 9,000 schools, millions of children who are under policies from the district that say parents may not know if and when their child decides to live as another identity at school and we know that parents by and large disagree with these type of policies.

we just released a poll that found that 71% of parents actually agree with legislation that would require schools to tell parents if and when their child decides to live as another identity at school and that spans, you know, different political parties, r -- races ad incomes and it's shameful that parents are being excluded from the conversations. mike: what about taking money from chinese affiliated groups, explain that? >> we found out that over the course of decade thomas jefferson high school for science and technology, there was a nonprofit organization operating out of the school that was attempting to fund new lab equipment from the school that had received around a million dollar from ccp linked entities over the course of that decade and, again, something where you can draw a parallel, whether it's a drag queen straddling a
