>> peter: the most recent draft of history written by the u.s. government insists the afghan withdrawal wasn't perfect but it wasn't that bad. >> so i'm sorry, i just won't buy the whole argument of chaos. for all this talk of chaos, i just didn't see it. not from my perch. it was tough in the first few hours, you would expect it to be. >> brian: the taliban -- the nfc's blame on biden's predecessor reads like this. the taliban agreed to participate in a peace process but only as long as the united states remained committed to withdraw by the agreement's deadline. as part of the deal, president trump also pressured the afghan argument to release taliban fighters from prison including senior war commanders without securing the release of the only american hostage known to be held by the taliban. a reminder 13 americans carrying out the final stages of the drawdown were killed in kabul. >> completely ridiculous. it's a rewriting of history.

we lost 13 brave americans. many thousands of americans, at least were, left there in afghanistan. it was a complete debacle for them to try to rewrite history is just terrible. >> peter: ultimately releasing this report on a thursday before a holiday weekend are hoping to emphasize what they think went right. >> people don't have issue with the decision to order troops out of afghanistan. it is with the way that this president ordered it done. there were children being killed. there were people hanging off of air force jets that were leaving and you are saying that you guys are proud of the way that this mission was conducted? >> nobody is saying that everything was perfect. but there was a lot that went right, so, yeah, there is a lot to be proud of, peter. >> peter: and we asked as far as we know nobody is going to be fired based on the lookback at mistakes that were made. back to you. >> brian: peter, do you think, in your unofficial opinion.

you had such direct -- from me, it looked like you were outraged by some of the things in the report it. did other people share the dismay about the contents. >> it really did. one of the longest briefings we have ever had in there about an hour and a half. he was getting it from everybody. john kirby yesterday had the hardest job in communications in the world because when people think back to the afghan withdrawal, especially the focus on the kabul airport. people are not assigning blame oh, well trump did. this oh, well it was actually biden's order that le led to th. people look at that and remember it being a sad period in world history and they look at it as being a complete mess. but the way that this report is written, it was trump's fault and it was some intelligence

failures, basically they guessed wrong about how long the taliban could was going to take to overthrow the afghan government. and so, it did seem like pretty much everybody in the room had questions that were along those lines. i will point out, they sent us via email this report only about 10 minutes before the briefing started. and it's a long report. you have got to zoom in on some parts on your phone. we didn't even have time to print it out before we had to go to the briefing. usually you could go through something like this and digest it for hours and hours. >> brian: it's intentional. >> peter: yeah. it's not like they wrote the report yesterday and they were returning to get it out. they have had this thing. they have been working on it for a year it didn't lend itself to super in-depth questions but pointed questions. >> ainsley: that is very interesting.

especially also many are questioning the timing of this maundy thursday. people traveling for easter. >> peter: we were sitting in the briefing room and watched out the window the motorcade left to take the biden administration to camp david for the weekend. we still haven't heard anything from president biden himself. i remember the day of the explosion at abby gate i asked president biden in the east room if he bared responsibility for what happened and he said the buck stops with him. that's a quote. i chkdz the transcript yesterday. but as this report comes out and they tried to review what happened so they don't make the same mistakes again. not guilty from the president on camera. and no, sir in the president's name like a statement they put out. statement from the president about x, y, z. we get them every day. not about this. at least not yet. >> brian: by the way they ended with saying how the world came together after that.

they looked at the ukraine effort. they weave in ukraine topics into this which is incredible. peter, great job as usual. thank you. >> peter: thanks, brian. >> ainsley: same old song and dance everything they blame on donald trump. i was watching fox last night and anchors were throws to a tease what the next story is we have the afghanistan withdrawal report and guess who they are blaming? doesn't take a rocket scientist to know they are blaming trump. when we came back from the segment i'm watching and the anchors explain it's trump they are blaming. we already knew based on that tease. they always blame trump for everything. >> will: bring in congressman wesley hunt on the house judiciary committee. graduate of west point. great to see you this morning. you heard that you heard it yesterday. you heard all of those statements from admiral kirby. what's your reaction? >> i think that this is an insult to the intelligence of the american people. we all watched what happened, and the battle cry of this administration is to always blame trump. now, let's keep in mind that the last two years of the trump

administration we had stability in afghanistan. for the last 18 months, we didn't lose a soldier. within a few months of the biden administration taking power? what happened? we lost 13 brave soldiers in that botched withdrawal that reminded us of the fall of saigon during vietnam. and then to add insult to injury. when those brave soldiers came home, joe biden stood on that tarmac and checked his watch repeatedly. i can guarantee you that he had time for those soldiers. i think that every time these kind of things happen the entire world is watching and that's why we are in this weakened state. this is the weakened state we have been in since jimmy carter and that's why we are seeing conflict all over the world. >> brian: you understand leadership in military better than i do. mckenzie and millie said we told him what we told him. and if you get to this threshold pull out. i recommend 2500 to 4500 troops. he says no one advised me this

army would collapse. so, he threw his commanders under the bus and the cia under the bus who told him this would happen. and then he goes and says the doha agreement, i had to go by what president trump agreed to. no, you didn't. because trump originally said we are leaving in may, it was conditions based and then he pushed it to september. so what's wrong with saying holn it's crazy. we have millions of dollars of equipment. we have allies and americans. we can't do it so quick. he just wanted out. and he is getting away with it. >> oh, you know exactly what he wanted, sir. he wanted to be out before 9/11. that was the whole point. he wanted to have his moment as the president to say look at what i did. 9/11 got us into afghanistan. and i was the president to get us out. and it cost us american lives. and you don't lead because you want because get out specific date. lead business interest of the soldiers on the ground and that's where he failed us.

problem with any of these race issues. it's all generally white people that have a problem with it. so offended whether it's about native americans or whoever it's whites that are offended. i find it to be really strange why they are the most offended when they're not the ones being affected. i think all this stuff correlates with the administration and the inflation is obviously out of control. now, every natural resource we use has doubled in cost in the last two years. you figure propane. my heat bill in the shop has gone up 110% in the last two years. the cost of groceries has gone up 100 percent. propane, natural gas. gasoline, oil, everything has doubled in costs. i don't recall getting a raise for 80%. i don't know anybody who has gotten double the pay since all this inflation has happened. that is a huge driving factor. that's going to drive all the problems in the schools. it's going to drive crime up because people don't have as much money to spend. i think they all go hand in hand. >> will: i heard wish la say. i know kish la has said her

fact. so when you look at what was facing president biden, all of his military leaders, including the on scene commander. all of the nato countries who had troops in afghanistan, some 7,000, the cia director all were telling him to stay. it was uncertain what would happen to the afghanistan security forces and the government. but the certainty was isis and al-qaeda will rise again in afghanistan. the reason we wanted to stay in afghanistan was to make certain that that did not happen. our nato allies didn't want to stay because it was in the interest of the united states. those nato countries wanted to stay and keep their soldiers exposed, brian, because it was in their national interest. president biden, i know people are in the room was arrogant about this. he was the smartest guy in the room. it was what he was saying. i know more about afghanistan than anybody else. and we're going to get out. that was his decision and he

owns everything that took place after that decision. he could have reversed it and said i agree with you. let under the circumstances stay and let's make certain the structure is right. we don't want isis. we don't want al qaeda to rise again. or, he made a decision, he set a date certain. and when the government began to collapse after the security forces had no air support whatsoever, president ghani came to washington, d.c. to see president biden. and ask him you pulled away all of the air support. i need contractors to keep my own air force flying. his decision was to pull them away as well. the fact is, even when the withdrawal was turning into a retreat, he still could have set some conditions down and said whoa, wait a second. this looks like saigon. we're not going to do. this i told the american people this is not going to happen. so what options did he have

then? tell the taliban we're not going to leave until we get all of the people out that we want to get out of here and do it in an orderly manner. i'm going to bring more troops in not just to secure the towers at the airfield but to secure space around the airfield so we can clear everybody who is coming into that airfield. and, believe me, mr. taliban leader, we know where you are now. you used to be up in the mountains and hiding from us. now you are occupying all the physical structures of the previous government. so we'll come for you, if you don't adhere to our conditions. he had plenty of opportunity to set a predictable methodical withdrawal as opposed to a chaotic retreat. and that is what unfolded in front of the american people. you can't now come back and try remake this in front of the american people. we saw it for what it is.

>> regardless of what their view was on stay, leave afghanistan. our allies saw it. they felt humiliated by the united states. and our adversaries have been taking advantage of us, brian, ever since that decision and what we all saw on our videos what took place there. they have felt the united states is weak and they have been coming for us ever since. >> brian: yes, our enemies, our allies downtown us and our enemies think we are vulnerable, hence we get the invasion in ukraine. leaving ukraine in this to show how the world came together after. a couple things, nato wanted to stay and people like you wanted to stay. why? where is it? it's right by iran. it is right by china. right by russia. right by pakistan. all our enemies are right there. we have a looking glass on all of them. a way to get intelligence. you explain that to the american people you keep a small force, the benefits we would have understood there was no clamor.
