9:10 am
vietnam, the indonesian countries, making sure we're focused on india and creating new partnerships there, what we can do through the relationships is give these countries more economic opportunity as well. we need to focus on our relationship with japan as well and korea. so there are had a lot of places where we, as a global leader, can make sure that we're exercising through peace through strength and relationships. that's our focus, asking for that from the biden administration. i think the biden administration doctrine of appeasement. it's time we move beyond that, a place where we're exhibiting that strength and we need that leadership and i'm hopeful that we'll be able to do that in a bipartisan way moving forward. molly: before i let you go. this report dropped thursday before the holiday regarding the exit from afghanistan. and the biden administration was very critical of the former administration, the trump administration, setting a lot of blame in that direction. your thoughts on this released report? >> well, no matter how the

confrontation or into a war kind of situation. i do believe in peace, as my colleague did say, i don't think that people -- i've been-- my stomach has been upsidedown as we've begun to hear of potential blockades of the straits of taiwan because of our dependence on taiwan for many things. many know i was with the auto industry for a long time and when-- i'm not that old, i'm seasoned. when i started in the auto industry, more than 40% of the chips were made this this country and now down to less than 12%. griff: that's a problem. >> that's a problem. we need to bring-- >> let me ask you, mentioned speaker mccarthy's meeting with taiwan's president. should mccarthy have gone to taiwan and led. >> speaker pelosi chose to go there. and the message was same she was in the country and the

message was sent and the delegation was a bipartisan delegation and mccaul's delegation was bipartisan delegation. i think the message was sent that taiwan is a partner to the united states. griff: you mentioned president biden and appeasement, but let's talk about the at least three incidences i can count that i recall when president biden really went further in his commitment to defend taiwan and of course, we had that strategic ambiguity policy, but the white house then walked back comments. so what is our policy? >> i think we all understand the strategic importance of taiwan to this country. we also understand and defend democracies around the world. china is a world power. i want to see us in a very strength detente position with russia and china. we've got to keep safe. and driving much of our economic security these days.

the russia, china discussions we're seeing and i think we have to be careful not to make inflammatory statements that in any way put kerosene on fires and i also believe this is a time, this congress must be bipartisan in sending messages abroad. griff: and you talk about russia and the other threats we're facing and much of this afghanistan report, the administration says that because of the withdrawal, in terms of resources and military assets puts us on a stronger footing. but the bulk of this report, they blame the prior administration, the trump administration for the disastrous withdrawal. so i ask you, how much blame does president biden, the commander-in-chief, during that withdrawal, how much blame does he own for the sdisaster? >> look, i think that was one of the saddest moments of this administration, as long as they've been there, but i do
9:16 am
believe that-- i have not seen the classified report. i have not read it. i want to. i want to see what is said in there. the policy to begin withdrawal was begun under president trump, both presidents thought that that was what we needed to do. i don't think anybody can feel good about what they saw that day, as a woman whose worked hard to help afghan women and who watched them become freer and to be able to go to school and have independence, what the taliban is doing to women is just absolutely deplorable and horrific to me. so, you know, we have to make a lot of tough decisions, there are a lot-- >> congressman does the buck stop with biden on this disaster? >> i believe the way that it happened and the 13 soldiers lives were lost was one of the saddest moments for me of his administration. he was the commander-in-chief then, but let's be really clear, that policy did begin under previous administration, instead of pointing fingers, which i don't want to do, i
