>> emily: four people are dead with eight injured, including two police officers. one currently in surgery after a gunman opened fire at a kentucky bank earlier this morning. the shooter, who has also been confirmed dead, had a reported connection to the bank. hello, everyone. this is "outnumbered." i am emily compagno with kayleigh mcenany,
9:01 am
cheryl casone, brian kilmeade, and lisa boothe. deputy chief praising the brave police officers who stormed the bank immediately upon arrival. >> it is clear from the officer's response that they absolutely saved people's lives. this is a tragic event, but it was a heroic response of officers that made sure no more people were more seriously injured then what happened. >> emily: andy beshear fought back tears, speaking about two of his those friends who are among those killed. >> this is awful. i have a very close friend that did not make it today. and i have another close friend who did not either. one who is at the hospital that i hope is going to make it through. so when we talk about praying, i hope people will. for those that we are hoping can
9:02 am
make it through the surgery is that they are going through, we've got to do what we have done these last three years after everything. we've got to wrap our arms around these families. >> emily: correspondent nate foy has the latest for us. what can you tell us about the horrible events of this morning? >> it's just awful. of course this is a developing story. police confirmed the second shooting less than a mile away. this was outside of a community college. more on that in a second. we are still learning information, but the first shooting where we know for sure four people were killed. a man walked into a local bank in downtown louisville this morning at 8:30, open fire on the people inside. on top of the four people that person is accused of killing, eight people are injured. you mention two of them are police officers. one of them was shot and is described as being in critical condition right now. as you mentioned as well, emily,
9:03 am
this was a targeted attack. police say the shooter has a connection to the bank. they believe he was either a current or former employee, so now authorities will delve into his background to see if there was any sort of indications that he was planning this attack, but you also mentioned a heroic response from police officers. they arrived within 3 minutes of receiving this call, exchanging gunfire with the shooter. it is unknown right now is police killed the shooter or if the gunman turned the gun on himself, but you heard governor andy beshear who lost multiple friends, as he put it, in this shooting. he also talked about the heroic response from law enforcement. listen to him here. >> they came into the scene in a matter of minutes, after receiving the call. there is no doubt in my mind that their effort saved lives, and they put their own on the line. we have at least one officer in
9:04 am
surgery right now that is there because he took those actions to try to protect the people of louisville. >> it reminds you of the response at the covenant school shooting which was two weeks ago today, where officers heroically took down the shooter in that attack as well. we are monitoring every, you know, anywhere that we can possibly get information, we are monitoring it. we are expecting a press conference. president biden is aware. he has been briefed on this. we will be listening to the briefing at 2:00. especially that second shooting that i mentioned unfolding outside a community college, just 0.7 miles away from the bank that was hit. police say the suspects got away, and we just heard with sandra at the end of the 11:00 hour, it appeared that one person was injured. another person was killed. that is not confirmed. monitoring social media to see
9:05 am
if they put that information out there publicly. a very, very busy morning and louisville unfortunately. at least four people killed. a more injured, including two police officers. >> emily: nate foy, excellent reporting. we will be sure to stick with you. thank you so much. brian kilmeade, what i want to punch for the community. they were shots fired. police responding, immediately engaged, and what struck me as well, their response within 3 minutes, the active shooter was still shooting. that is why police officers are injured, and the governor praised the heroic actions of those police officers. >> brian: all of a sudden you get this call, and you have to go into a hail of bullets. i thought it was an unbelievable coincidence, not a great one, the two governors had a personal connection to the shooting. he said my wife is good friends with one of the victims. and then governor beshear says i
9:06 am
know three of them, and two of them died. you do not have to drill in what is at stake here. you have a grievance. it seems someone has a grievance with their workplace. they know the people. they want to shoot it out, rather than talk it out. we are going to find out about the background that led to this, but bottom line, a bunch of innocent people lost their lives today. >> emily: unnecessarily. it is yet to determine the exact connection, the exact method and manner of his or her death. kayleigh, that community, such a beautiful community. not only have they had direct and a close personal connections with those responding officers and those in the bank, but the mayor himself was the victim of an attempted assassination a little over a year ago. where at his campaign headquarters, they were having to barricade. the bullet went through his sweater and did not cause any
9:07 am
lasting physical damage, but that community is no stranger to horrific events like this, and i am sure it feels like just yesterday that they were going through something similar. >> kayleigh: these men and women just got done celebrating easter i'm sure some of them with their families, perhaps having traveled. they go into work, and this happens. you are right. it just feels so close to home when you hear about nashville and louisville. you wonder, and god for bed, what could be next. but the heroism, two highlighted. so we are just now even learning more of their story. we want to learn the story of this heroic police officer. who arrived on an active gun fire scene and ran towards the spray of bullets and saved many lives in doing so. we are just hearing from officers in nashville. one said that the gunshots made them kick into overdrive. there was the smell of gunpowder in the air.
9:08 am
they stepped over a victim, and they nevertheless ran towards the gunfire and saved lives. we will hear more about the story. police saved many, many lives in a tragic incident just after easter that should have never happened. >> emily: a marine corps veteran, had responded to the christmas day bombing in nashville a few years prior, so that training and that experience can never be overstated, and it is why, as the communities lives are in these well-earned hands of first responders, it is why they can execute so cleanly, saving lives immediately, because of that incredible training they all have. >> cheryl: also why we should change the culture. not everyone admires them in our society. you look at the response to the covenant school as well, and it makes us so thankful for the work that they do, and inevitably at this white house
9:09 am
briefing later today, we will likely hear calls for gun control. it is typically where these conversations are steered. i am really tired of that empty rhetoric and calls because what we need to get to is the why. this is unfolding, so there is so much that we do not know about this, but we see with these cases that the things they are calling for actually would not have prevented the shootings themselves, and we need to get to the y as a society. we keep producing shooters. i am from virginia. i live in florida now. we just had three teens murder three other teens. why as a society are we turning out 12-year-old murderers? or accused murderers. that is what we need to figure out. why is our society so broken? what do we do to fix the hearts and souls of our fellow americans? >> emily: we know the president has been briefed. he is monitoring the situation. we will look forward to his
9:10 am
praise of law enforcement, to their response to this end of course hopefully the prayers emanating from the white house for the two police officers who have been injured. >> cheryl: we hope that we get that. i have to applaud the mayor of louisville and the governor as well for not politicizing anything when this immediately is happening. they are talking about the victims, the quick thinking of the officers. and the governor, i have to say, for him to keep his composure, knowing that he just lost two friends, and cannot imagine how difficult that was, even for the most experienced politician, to have to stand up there, moments after learning that you have lost two friends. as we see with nashville and these other events that happened sadly across this country, so many times it is so quickly politicized, and the conversation is turned away from continuing to talk about the victims of these tragedies. they say that about nashville
9:11 am
and every other shooting that unfortunately we have to cover when this happens. >> emily: our hearts and prayers are firmly with the community there in louisville with the aid injured there. the four that lost their lives, and those two release officers who were injured. we will keep you posted as all developments occur. president biden has not officially confirmed he is running again, but his team does have a strategy to win over young voters using tiktok influences. more on that great idea, next. veteran homeowners: to combat today's rising prices, lower your monthly payments with the 3 c's. pay down your credit cards. pay off your car loan. consolidate your debt with a va home loan from newday. i brought in ensure max protein, with 30 grams of protein. those who tried me felt more energy in just two weeks. uh... here i'll take that. ensure max protein with 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar
