can the middle-class even afford them? biden's climate law offered a tax break but the electric vehicle raised the prices to eliminate the rebate. biden's treasury department will make the rebates hard are to get. you can mandate something all day long but if it's not accessible to the consumers it won't work. even the progressive voices are waking up to the reality. >> in california with the phasing out of gas powered cars don't minimize the financial burdens. i am freaking the [bleep] about the charging station thing. we will take out a [bleep]

massive loan. gavin newsom is we have a heat wave on the energy grid. if you have electric vehicle don't charge them right now. >> jason: the biden epa's plan won't just hurt consumers. it will enrich china by giving them a monopoly on the sources materials. do they have a good answer on that? >> most ev's batteries are produced in china. how do you balance the administration's climate goals while reducing reliance on china? >> that's a great question. we have to walk and chew gum at the same time. this doesn't kick in until 2027. we have years to ramp up. we hope to take advantage of that runway. >> jason: the dirty little

expensive because the grid is not ready to handle this new demand. >> jason: yes. i used to have a tesla. i loved driving it. i had to pay $500 to put in a little charging station and hire an elblelectriccian for anr $500. i sold it. the average person can't out fit their home. there is no game plan. i don't know how many trillion dollars they will spend to do this. >> it will be a massive cost, jason. i studied the grid for a long time.

i wrote a piece a few days ago talking about the cost of transformers. distribution transformers the wait times are 1 to 2 years. last year we saw utility products from transformers, and the inflation rate was 18%. over the past 2 years, we have seen the price of utility products go up by a third. these are costs paid by all consumers. it won't be borne equally. ford just a few days ago announced a huge loss in their ev-business. they lost $34,000 on every one they made. you can't makeup for that in volume. it doesn't work that way. >> jason: let's talk about china. it was chicken of the president

to make this announcement while he was overseas. that was ridiculous. the white house was asked about china taking advantage of biden's green agenda. this is what he said. >> the administration doing anything to stop china from cashing in on green energy goals? >> i don't have anything to share on china relating to electric vehicles. you know where we stand on china. we want competition and not conflict. >> jason: another non-answer. explain the china connection. >> it's critical. the department of energy put out a report on this last year. 90% of the magnets are controlled by china and they are used in every electric vehicle.

it's not just the magnets. the mining and processing of the metals. 200 kilograms -- let's talk about copper and nickel. the problem is cobalt. every ev contains 25 pounds of cobalt which is mined in congo in terrible conditions. there is a new book called "cobalt red." this makes no sense. china will look out for china. >> jason: this didn't need to be this way. i was in phoenix over the weekend. the price of gas was nearly $5 a gallon. i don't think it's a coincidence that this administration made that big announcement and there
