documents revealed on social media and the person who may have leaked them. welcome to a new hour of "america's newsroom" -- i'm dana perino. >> bill: i'm bill hemmer. president biden speaking out in ireland as an explosive report reveals some personal details about the man behind the leak of sensitive military secrets of which there are many. source says he knows the leaker, telling the "washington post" about a possible motive. they did an interview with this person and put him in shadow at his request. that's our understanding. here is part of that. roll it. >> it would appear as if he sort of grew angry with the fact that only 1 or 2 people were paying attention to these documents he was pouring his heart out into and as a sign of just anger, he just decided to post the full document. he was a very smart way. no way he would not know that these were illegal. >> dana: peter doocy traveling with president biden joins us
7:01 am
from dublin. hi, peter. >> dana, we have been told today on the record by a white house official here in dublin the president biden is having the time of his life. that is not something you usually hear about the work trip. and a few minutes ago president biden down played the significance of these document getting leaked. >> president biden: there is a full blown investigation going on with the intelligence community and justice department and they are getting close. >> how concerned are you about this leak? >> i'm not concerned about the leak -- i'm not concerned that it happened but nothing contemporaneous that i'm aware of that is of consequence. >> the accused leaker is a man in his 20s who works on a military base and uses the moniker o.g. online according to the "washington post", which talked to an unnamed member of a chatroom where classified materials were shared weeks before the pentagon realized it was out there.
7:02 am
a chatroom that counts as members some foreign nationals from russia and ukraine. we did have a chance to ask the press secretary about it here in dublin at a rare briefing abroad. >> afghanistan report last week found that the intel was bad there and now some more reliable intel is leaking out. is president biden satisfied with the people who are handling american intelligence? >> what i will say is again d.o.j. is reviewing these documents. we cannot speak to the validity of these documents. >> but some at the white house are speaking to the validity of the classified materials. >> the fact that you have leaks of classified information that are out in the public domain and don't belong there. >> a big theme of these leaks is that the u.s. is spying on allies and yet we are told the
7:03 am
leaks did not come up at a sit-down with president biden and the u.k. prime minister yesterday. >> dana: thank you, peter doocy. congressman mike waltz from florida joins us now. i want to play a little more from the interview that the teen gave to the "washington post" about the leaker. >> there is talks of foreign intelligence agencies who supplying in what wars and who is funding certain things. there is talks of nuclear weaponry. that's hardly touching the iceberg. there is stuff if your tax dollars are funding these atrocities you should be able to know about it. >> dana: your reaction to the leaker. as far as we know not in custody yet but perhaps known now. >> yeah, dana. i find this far more serious and more significant than what we're hearing from the white house and what jumped out at me is just
7:04 am
that we have this massive security infrastructure within the defense department, our intelligence community, secure compartmented facilities by the thousands, secure i.t. systems, security background checks that take months, if not years, and cost billions and billions of dollars. yet this seems to have been done so simply and it really drives me as a member of the intelligence committee from an oversight standpoint to look at that infrastructure and how much money we spend and how effective is it really? and also all of the insider threat programs that supposedly were put in place since the snow den leaks. at the end of the day we built these massive forts around our classified intelligence, as we should. yet it is the insiders that seem to be the biggest threats. that's what i want to dig into
7:05 am
when we get back to washington and start conducting oversight. >> bill: we mentioned this last hour upwards of 3 million americans have access to classified information. i would put that number at 300, not 3 million. it is what it is as of 2019. i think if you read through the "washington post" article a lot of that information in there stuns me. dana, i think probably you would agree with that. but jack keane just sat here and said this is not the top intelligence that we have and he suggested that we're overplaying the amount of information that is now out in the public domain. would you agree with that, sir? >> well, i think general keane was making the distinction between what's embarrassing -- it is. i was just out in south korea. the south koreaian president ran on a pro-american platform and now to learn we have collection,
7:06 am
according to these reports, on our allies, isn't helpful. it is incredibly difficult to engage in these alliances when we have that kind of stuff out there. what i think general keane was making a distinction between what's embarrassing and then the actual sources and methods. whether it's naming human sources or naming collection programs. i haven't received the full briefing yet. i haven't seen how much of that latter was actually exposed. i think that's what he is speaking to. i want to look at the protocols how the stuff got out and how much money we're spending or wasting to try to hide it. vert one other topic. this week the white house said it will introduce sanctions to combat the dealing of fentanyl saying they'll go after the accountability measures including financial sanctions on key targets to obstruct drug trafficker access to the u.s. financial system.
7:07 am
do you have confidence it will help combat the fentanyl coming into the u.s.? >> well, first we do need to focus on the cartels, number one. number two, i don't know if these cartels are on the international monetary system or using swift or have bank of america accounts that can really be affected here. they are moving cash and crypto. the end of the day i still maintain that we need to tap into military resources to support law enforcement. i have submitted legislation for the authorization the use of military force not an invasion, but space systems targeting, intelligence, offensive cyber. we have to put the cartels on their back foot. start disrupting and dismantling them and put them on the defensive. i this i -- i think that's how we get to the problem. i fear these sanctions are frankly a check the box from the
7:08 am
white house to say they are doing something, but the things i just listed will actually have an effect. they did it in columbia and we can do it again. >> bill: thank you for your time. michael waltz, thank you, back on the intel leak. apparently there is more coming. when that happens we don't know. but there is more apparent will i out there. that story is not over. et minutes past the hour. npr acquiting twitter after it was labeled as government-funded media. the first major news organization to abandon that platform and fears that the label will hurt their credibility. griff jenkins is watching that story in our d.c. bureau today. good morning. >> good morning. if you go to npr twitter now you will see that government-funded media and angers the public radio network who quit twitter after musk said they were state-affiliated media. now npr announced yesterday no

7:10 am
misinformation regarding masking and side effects of vaccinations? and not reporting on that at all? and what about the fact the bbc was put under pressure by the british government to change the editorial policy. are you aware of that? >> it's clear, bill, labeling war is not over. this comes, by the way, when npr is no stronger to controversy. they refused to cover the hunter biden laptop story during the 2020 election. that story has been authenticated by multiple news organizations. >> griff jenkins in d.c. >> dana: a manhunt underway in new york city. police are looking for three suspects caught on camera breaking into a high-end park avenue auction house. >> bill: we're monitoring a huge fire at a recycling plant in indiana. look at this. evacuation orders are still in place for thousands who live there. >> a little bit of smoke coming from there. within ten minutes it started to really spread.
