this, we have higher risk, are the brave men and women who are in the intelligence agencies who are risking their own lives to protect america. and what may seem like a game for these 21-year-olds is actually putting lives at risk and so my sympathies are completely with those who are saying these were classified materials and there need to be consequences and we need to understand why they were leaked. >> we will soon learn the actual location of this person, likely from fort bragg what we are told so far, it could be another location as you heard jen's reporting there. national guard saying we are aware of the investigation into the alleged role of a massachusetts air national guard may have played a role in the recent leak of highly classified documents. reuters is reporting he'll be arrested in massachusetts today. we are working to confirm this. how do you believe he should be held accountable or responsible? >> he needs to be held

accountable with all the criminal laws that apply to both stealing classified information and leaking them. as a member of congress, i don't get close to classified information without giving my phone, every electronic going into a scif. we also need to ask him, the social media sites where he shared it, what was going on and a better handle on discord, some of these sites where this kind of information is proliferating. that needs to be monitored in some way. these sites can't just be places where you either have hate speech or you have the leak of classified information. >> sandra: i want to move on to growing calls for your colleague, diane feinstein, concerns about her medical absence, congressman. you were one of those voices. i do believe you have called for her to resign in this moment. why do you believe it's necessary?
10:10 am
>> i think i was the first member of congress to do that and i took some heat from my own party, but here's the reality. she -- i have a lot of respect for senator feinstein, she's unable to fulfill her duties and i don't know any other job if you are unable to fulfill your duties you can continue to have the position. i think she should do the dignified thing. respect her years of public service and it's sometime to step aside. >> sandra: say it's a political move on your part. is politics at play whashgs is your thinking on this? >> as you know, i'm not running for the united states senate. i'm happy in the house of representatives. i don't see any political advantage to it. the governor would get an appointment, he may appoint a caretaker. i don't think it has to affect in any way the ongoing race. this has to do with the simple principle that california deserves a senator who is
10:11 am
actively participating in the votes. it's one thing if there was an illness and there was some clear return date. people get sick, people take medical leave in jobs. but when there has been a pattern for years of not being fully present and when there is no clear return date, i guess my view is that it should be like any other job and i just don't know any other job in america where someone wouldn't be asked to leave. >> sandra: obviously with your support of barbara lee, that was called into question by nancy pelosi saying for those calling for her resignation in the democratic party, i don't know what political agenda are at work going after senator feinstein in is that way, never seen them go after a man that was sick in that way. one last question, after a response. >> this has nothing to do with gender. she's very much for adam schiff getting that seat. but i don't question people's political motives.
10:12 am
this is simply whether someone can do their job. >> sandra: final question on where you are and why a california democrat is bringing tech education to rural america, washington post-op ed pointing that you, congressman, one of the bright lights in the democratic party representing a district smack in the middle of silicon valley, where tech giants, yahoo, mcafee, google are headquartered, why are you spending time in iowa, pennsylvania, south carolina, very little tech industry. a hint possibly at your political ambitions or is there something else at work here? >> my political ambition is to make america a manufacturing super power, to bring the from jobs to communities left behind. i'm at des moines community college, many of them never had technology in their families and they are getting credentialed to get the 50, $60,000 jobs while

staying in dmac, and technology in the heartland will bring prosperity back to places left out. >> sandra: are you thinking about possibly a run in 2024? >> no, no, not at all. and this is bipartisan, by the way, i've worked on these initiatives on things like senator rubio. it something the country can come together on. >> sandra: there are some rumors out there. sounds like we have a hard no. always appreciate when you can join us. thank you. >> thank you, appreciate it. >> bill: happening right now, president biden addressing the irish parliament in dublin. there he is touting the close relationships between america and ireland, including the millions of immigrants who crossed the atlantic to the u.s. in the 19th and 20th centuries, he's adding america has been shaped by ireland, as well as his own irish heritage, and thanked the irish government

supporting ukraine in the fight against russia. we will bring you any news that may or may not come out. >> sandra: arrest made in the murder of cash app founder bob lee, after the shocking stabbing raised fresh concerns over surging crime in san francisco. lee was visiting san francisco last week for a tech conference and his death sparking broad criticism over the city's crime policies. but local reporting is now suggesting the predawn attack was not random. claudia is live in the bay area with breaking details. what are we learning? >> i just got off the phone with bob lee's former wife christa, she tells me she got a call from police early this morning telling her an arrest has been made. she told me police also gave her the name of a suspect, but we are not reporting the name until we get confirmation from police. she has no idea who this man is.
10:15 am
according to the independent media outlet mission local, the man now in custody is a tech executive, like bob lee was, and that the two men knew each other, though it is not clear at this point how well they knew each other. now, a close friend of bob lee's tells me that it is his understanding that the two had been at a party until late in the night and that the suspect was driving lee back to his hotel early on april 4th. you may recall lee was visiting san francisco from miami and had a lot of friends here. surveillance video shows lee looking around for help after being stabbed twice in the chest. sources say once the homicide unit made the identification of a suspect, they had this person under surveillance while they continued to gather evidence in the case until they could make the early morning arrest. while police have not commented on any evidence, a kitchen knife with a four-inch blade was found in a nearby parking lot. the mayor of san francisco, london breed was pushing back on

>> i have no choice because the current administration and many prosecutors in this country have lost all morale and ethical bounds of decency. anyone in my position not taking the fifth amendment would be a fool, an absolute fool. >> a.g. james is accusing the former president and his children of falsely inflating trump's net worth by billions of dollars in financial statements to convince banks to lend the trump organization billions of dollars. the a.g. wants the trumps to repay $250 million and to permanently ban trump and his three oldest kids from doing future business in new york. the trumps have denied any wrongdoing. the civil case is one of at least six major lawsuits or investigations the former president is facing. trump tried twice to get the a.g.'s case thrown out, saying james was conducting a political witch hunt. both attempts were dismissed by judges.

taiwan. >> is it china's interest to bully and get other people to blink, taiwanese, americans, japanese, europeans, yes. in china's interest to push the envelope and risk conflict, or risk blowback, which could harm the chinese economy as it's trying to recover from covid and the answer is no. the chinese are balancing their own interests. we have the relationship called strategic ambiguity. china has a vital interest, united states does, the japanese, south koreans have interest, europeans have interest, all served by the status quo. if you risk jumping over the status quo to get something more, you get all the risks that go with that, and is that really worth it to china? look what happened to russia which overstepped to take more and look what that has done to russia and i think the chinese have to balance that as they think about how tough do they

this. part of this aggression is causing people to be tougher. we see it in europe as well. how many countries have fallen into line meeting 2% for gdp, pushing back against russia. easy to say we can push people around but people have an option. why the role of the united states is important, people will stand up, burden share, take responsibility, do more if they know the u.s. is standing with them because they cannot stand up to places like china and russia alone. >> and bigger picture, over the next few years or so, the u.s. and china are on a direct collision course with each other over taiwan? >> both of them have explicit strategy to win against each other without fighting. i don't think that's going to change. both realize as long as the status quo is present in taiwan, both are vital interests, respected. so i don't think that's natural. here is the one thing that absolutely i lose sleep over. if china thinks that i could
10:28 am
just walk in and take taiwan, if america is so militarily weak that they can't really respond, then they might do what russia tried, they might risk it. number one variable here is not just helping taiwan defend itself because they should take the lead, getting europeans and others to go in, that's important. but the united states has to have the capacity and capability to say you can cross that ocean maybe once, but then we can take the lines of communication and you cannot win and as long as china fears that, i think the likelihood of a war is quite low. so it's really on us to continue to make strong, we have a strong military presence in asia and the number one thing, we have to build up our navy. we have to do that and we are not doing it fast enough. >> bill: and have to re-stock a lot of our ammunition we have been sending over to ukraine in the event something happens in the future. james carafano, thank you for your time today. sandra. >> i live kind of out in a rural area, there are not the hook-up, plus the extra expense of the

car. >> my sister has an electric and she says the longer trips are a challenge. >> i would not switch to electric, i don't think it's ready. everything i think comes when it's ripe, as far as not forcing people to do things they don't want. >> sandra: president biden's push to transform the car industry to focus on e.v. is facing pushback from industry leaders and as you heard there, people on the street who warn the epa plan to require as many as two-thirds of new cars in this country sold by 2032 to be electric is unrealistic. it all comes as polling shows americans are hesitant to give up their gas powered vehicles due to lack of charging stations. bring in phil flynn, and a unique take on this as always, phil. so, jump in here on this push for more e.v.s, even though so many say we are not ready for it. >> we are not ready for it and they are coming for your car, sandra, you better lock your
10:30 am
garage. this is how americans are going to view this, right? people love their cars, they don't trust electric cars, they know they don't have the range to get them to where they want to go, they know they are less efficient. and they know in cold climates they don't work as well. so this move by the biden administration to force people into electric cars is really going to backfire, i believe, on the administration. but it's also if they go through with this, there is going to be poor people that won't be able to afford a car, electric cars are too expensive and gas cars are way expensive. >> and super green if people would take public transportation, but so many are fearful in the big cities dealing with the spiking crime rates. that's the case in so many american cities. phil, i don't want to take away from the fact some people do like their e.v.s, i think we all know somebody who is totally obsessed with their tesla or whatever it is and that's fine and if they can afford it great
10:31 am
and fall in love with it great. but right now we don't have the capacity for the charging stations, not as prevalent as they need to be for a push like this. who knows what it means for the electric grid and whether we can support this number of e.v.s on the road. they are not affordable, and the innovation has not been there for this sort of push. so, what does it mean for the energy industry, the fossil fuel industry? how are you looking at that, phil? >> well, when the government starts meddling in the free markets and starts to try to pit winners and losers, there is always going to be a backlash that hurts the american people and we are seeing that right now. the talk by the epa to reduce the fossil fuel cars and internal combustion engine, refineries are starting to close down in california and other places because they don't think the demand is going to be there so they are not going to invest the type money they need to meet
10:32 am
current demand. that means your gasoline prices will go through the roof, car prices through the roof, so this is a bad thing. what bothers me is like listen, i love electric cars, they are beautiful, awesome. but to try to force americans to drive them because you think it's going to be better for the environment when the truth is they are not that much better. there is a huge negative impact as well. so this craziness is nuts. >> sandra: talked about the reliance on china to support this push and say we are not going to manufacture here, not going to try to dig for the resources here, it's fot green but it's global warming they are concerned about but still go to china for it. 70% of the lithium comes from china and majority of the batteries made for those vehicles. and final question on the states facing unprecedented water supply cuts under the colorado river plan. i guess, you know, you'll have a situation where there are more and more people that are going
10:33 am
to have to limit their use of water because of this river, the colorado river basin being in the middle of the 23-year drought that ranks as the region's worst in 1200 years. there are a lot of states, a lot of people, a lot of families that are going to be affected by this, phil. >> you are absolutely right, you know. and years ago it was said that oil is going to look cheap compared to water in the new world, and we are starting to see that prediction start to develop and what's crazy about this, when we get into a situation where the colorado -- look what's happening in california right now with the record rainfall, right. we know that we go through these patterns of drought and plenty, and what we have to do is learn from this, it's not, you know, it's really poor planning that got us to this point. we had to know that the colorado river over time goes through areas that are subject to drought and low rainfall totals, so when you get the boom of rain
10:34 am
like you get in california, we have to find ways to conserve that oil, or water, so we can use it another day. so again, this is just craziness. i think it's fear mongering but it really hurts the people when we don't plan well for things, even when we should be able to see the things coming. >> that's the key word, planning, right, phil. it's happening for quite some time, the river flow is expected to fall 10 to 30% by 2050. it is quite remarkable. a lot of people will be affected. >> thanks for having me. >> sandra: back to the gas prices, and what all this green push and this, you know, the electric vehicle push means for the energy market, he's talking about then more and more production will be taken offline if they see it more and more electric and more charging stations go up, and prices will go up and where they are today. those are sky high prices, bill, 3.64 the national average, up on the week, up in the month, and
10:35 am
you are still talking about up more than a dollar since president biden took office. >> bill: heading into summer when it get higher, and good point about the e.v.s, you were saying if people want a product, they'll buy it if they want it. shouldn't have to force it down their throat. they want to get to 67% in a decade. we are at what, 6% right now of new cars sold so a long ways to go. in the meantime, storms sweeping across parts of florida dumping nearly a foot of rain in fort lauderdale yesterday, take a look at the video, creating flash floods all over the place. streets and cars underwater, flights grounded at fort lauderdale-hollywood airport. brandy, sounds like a big mess. what are you seeing? >> oh, it truly is. we have roads around fort lauderdale that still have some water on them, but also here at the airport you can see behind me there is still water, there was a child that walked by
10:36 am
earlier and told his mom, mom, look, it's the ocean out there, but it's not. instead it's causing disruptions and major delays at the airport. we also have video of what it looked like as the storms passed through and even stalled over this area at some point. so at this moment, the airport is closed until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. they are working to clear the water off of the field, but also clear debris saying that they are also trying to restore partial operations to one of their runways and given if the conditions do not worsen because we do have some potential rain coming our way. now, the mayor of fort lauderdale did speak in a press conference earlier. this was his response to a question about the drainage issue here that caused all the flooding. >> what we are seeing here is 1,000 year incident. no city could have planned for this. no weather forecasting service could have warned us. the point is the city is it
10:37 am
continuing and committed to making sure we are the most sustainable and resilient city in florida. face it, fort lauderdale is a flat city, it's at sea level. >> and he mentioned some of the highest points are surrounded by water, and will face issues like this. so as a result, they had over 900 calls for rescue services, three of them assisted by broward county sheriff's office. the mayor saying the whole city has been impacted by this, but thankfully there have been no deaths but really just a big disruption for people in this county and surrounding ones. miami has some issues and places north of us as well. but just more water than i think anybody could have imagined as the storms really stalled over this area. bill. >> bill: what a mess, hope it stays dry and the weather looks

from a bystander that ignored him. they ignored his cries for help and they left him for dead. you know, the streets of san francisco, whether this guy knew his attacker or not, the streets of san francisco are becoming crime infested hellscapes, no other way to describe them. homicides in san francisco are up 33%. this all in my view realities back to the riots of 2020, when we saw arsons, we saw looting, we saw police officers get assaulted with fireworks and other things, and these things by and large went unpunished. so, what happens when you take away consequences for crime? you get more crime. so now the chickens i think are truly coming home to roost, no matter who you are. if you are inside these big cities, there's a good chance that you are not safe. these big cities have got to get a handle on the crime crisis, they've got to get around it, they've got to fix it, stop it. because if they don't, then
10:45 am
cities are going to become unlivable. and we may get to the point we just have to surrender the inner cities to the criminals. i hope it doesn't come to that, but these things all go back to this idea that we just don't have to have consequences for crime anymore. >> sandra: just remarkable, he's got two young daughters, he called 911 himself, telling them he had been stabbed, he needed help. by the time cops arrived he was unconscious, later succumbed to his injuries and the slashing at the hospital. a friend of his said the tech mogul recently moved to miami because he felt san francisco was deteriorating, he was in the good part of the city and appeared to have been targeted in the attack. mayor london breed gets a lot of criticism for the rising crime rates. over the weekend she told residents not to jump to conclusions about his death, and said people will be surprised when the facts come out. how did you interpret that? >> well, she's probably alluding to the fact this might be

someone who, you know, who knew his killer. most murders historically a good chance that the victim knows the killer. and so in this sense it might be distinguishable, at least to that degree from random crime that we do see that is still plaguing our cities. but listen, you've got a situation in san francisco where even whole foods, you know, they cannot keep their store open in downtown san francisco because they say they cannot keep their people safe. so crime in general, whether it's somebody you know or somebody you don't know, these streets are becoming unlivable. our leaders have to get a handle on this crime crisis before it's too late. otherwise we are not going to have any cities to live in. >> sandra: harsh reality for so many in this country right now. we'll keep following that story. phil holloway, thank you. >> thanks for having me, guys. >> sandra: homelessness, meanwhile is surging at a staggering rate all over the

mind when it comes to this incident? >> not just for myself, but for all the citizens in richmond and especially those within the zone of contamination, and that is to get assurance from the epa that the contaminants that may have been in the air or on the ground are going to be sufficient enough for those people who have been displaced to return back to their homes and begin what may seem as normalcy in their lives. may also include gardening, planting flowers or lawn care, that was one of the things we had been advised to keep away from and refrain from until we can get some epa guidelines. >> bill: and 20 seconds for a response, if you hear during the press conference later today that authorities have detected some hazardous chemicals or odors, gasses, will you leave? >> i'm gone. i'll be leaving, yes. >> bill: there you go. >> safety and health comes first.
