young as 18. >> peter: um-huh. >> steve: last year there were something like 600,000 members of the military under 25. so this is something that they do although apparently the military gives you secret stuff on a need to know basis. >> pete: that's how it should be based on your job compartmentalized. certain information i was able to see and other things not pertaining to my job i'm not able to see. >> steve: you didn't have the key to you will at secrets. >> pete: if i needed to look for things that i had a responsibility to see say when i was in afghanistan i could. here is what happened and other people have mentioned it but it's important. the government has overclassified so much. meaning a simple document like the rundown to "fox & friends" classified. there's nothing classified about this but it means it's harder to get access to it. but that means they give more clearances to more people goat access volume. the information is pushed wider out. these young people who get, you
3:47 am
know, swear an oath and get a classification, they know precisely what they are able to do and not able to do. >> ainsley: tell us about that. what is the training and they tell you all the requirements. you have responsibility. >> peter: it's extensive training. you are, you know, threaten is the wrong word, but you know exactly what will happen to you. >> steve: can you go to driven. >> peter: there is also a dual track on this. submarine leaker brought photographs submarine. >> steve: that wasn't a leak. >> peter: this wasn't a leak either. i want to be cool and show off to my buddies. i'm not trying to make a statement about the war in ukraine. look at how other documents are handled by other people in famous cases and off times, look at hunter biden, look at what he probably used to deals with foreign entities he is not being prosecuted. there is dual tracks on this. but it's very serious the government really doesn't know
3:48 am
who has access to. what it's the threat of prosecution that keeps people from doing things like this. >> brian: going on for so many months. he now says he is going to do a total revamp of this system. >> pete: good luck. the amount of contractors. the pentagon just had a audit. they don't know where the people is do you think they know who the people are looking at the programs? other thick our government is not telling us the truth in the other cases like the status of the war in ukraine and status of allies and the way china is linking up with other countries and drawing in influence. this is information the media would have salivated over and in this particular case, you know, why will look into the motives more. >> brian: are you going to do that over the weekend? >> peter: we can't -- we do an off the wall. i saw you do an on the wall. i think that's you broke down the leakers. >> brian: i'm on you are off. brian. >> peter: we are going to do a junior varsity city version what you have did on the wall and break it down. other leakers that have happened
3:49 am
and how they are similar and different to what happened in this case. >> ainsley: can you do it better? >> brian: yes. >> pete: it's not a competition. >> brian: you and will. >> pete: two of us we have a little bit of an advantage. >> brian: i make a lot of stuff up you stick to the facts. >> pete: stick mostly to the facts. hand it other to will. >> ainsley: that's the beauty of having a show with more than one anchor, right? >> pete: for sure. great to see you guys. >> ainsley: all right. coming up, taking america first, even further than trump. presidential candidate vivek ramaswamy shares his policies for america first 2.0. >> steve: but, first, the story that started it all. we go inside john glenn's earth orbit. the must-see mission that launched the space race into launched the space race into high gear with the russians. that's coming up next.

everything stopped. >> steve: everything did stop. i remember back during the mercury days. the author of the book "mercury rising" is featured in a show jeff essential joins us d.c. i was very young it was more than national pride. >> the way we tell this story it was a friendly scientific technical call competition between nations. this san important aspect of this which is that the stakes were seen to be existential. when john kennedy ran for president in 1960s, he said that the nation that controls the heavens is the nation that controls life here on earth. and there was really a fear across the united states and also among our of a lies that if the soviets dominated space that they would be able to dictate
3:55 am
life on earth, that they would hang a space station above the united states armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons. >> steve: sure, of course, the soviets they launched yuri get gainer first and we shot of allen shepard it wasn't much of a flight. this was this flight we are looking at here mercury 7 with future senator john glenn in it. i have seen the capsule at the smithsonian air and space museum. i don't know if i would have gotten in that thing. did not look safe. >> it's unbelievably tiny. the technical term at nasa for getting into that capsule was being inserted into the capsule. that's what it was like. john glenn said you don't get in it. you wear it. >> steve: yeah, exactly. and they were doing things with that flight that had never been done before. so he was literally flying by the seat of his pants as was everybody in mission control. all right. you know what? we can send people to the moon but we cannot keep the signal
