upset with bob lee over whether anyone, quote, happened with thes sister and lee before he's said to have stabbed cash app founder to death. new court documents give a blow by blow account of the night of lee's murder they reveal a witness overherd a telephone conversation between two men in which questioning lee over whether his sister was doing drugs or anything inappropriate. lee reassured him nothing bad had happened but later in the night both men they went to the sisters apartment at the millennium tower in san francisco. prosecutors say there was some type of dispute between closed doors before surveillance video captures the two men leaving the tower together and getting inside the white bmw just after 2 a.m. they drive and park in a secluded area it's dark and can't make out faces and surveillance video captures mominti moving to lee stabbed three times once in the hip and in the chest including directly

in the heart and tech mogul left to slowly die. he sped off in his car police later found a four inch kitchen knife with blood on it left in that parking lot. now monini a tech consultant made a first court appearance friday and his sister was in that kroomg. his legal team asked for the public to withhold judgment. >> he had friends and family here in support the facts as to what occurred or did not occur will come out over time. prosecutors have charged with first-degree murder, lawrence he faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted. lawrence: a crazy story we didn't expect that thank you so much for reporting. bob lee murder ultimately not a random attack did open a dialogue about culture of lawlessness in san francisco almost on cue, it was announced that a massive flagship whole foods store would close due to crime after being open for just one year -- the numbers don't lie.

the most recent san francisco come stat report shows robbery and burglaries are up so we asked people in the city about what's going to wrong, watch. oh it kind of makes me want to move -- yeah. quite disappointed i work in the office building that is my go to lunch spot so it is a bummer but makes sense given everything that i saw in there every day. >> what did you see? >> a lot of theft for sure and safety concerns. >> really unfortunate it was valley convenient for us and sad it was too dangerous. >> how do you feel about it -- >> upset man like three days ago i was in here. it was open like there was no, you know, what i mean no issues. >> one of the reasons they close because employees didn't feel safe anymore in this neighborhood. >> sure. >> does that surprise you? >> not really. >> go to the store just shopping -- and then i saw the security

feds for the help. >> it's taken out of text in terms of highlighting city has being unsafe that's not entirely true. our goal is to make sure federal government understand what is aware going through because they can take over these case and they can prosecute these cases -- >> to understand how far the city has fall about i caught up with former san francisco police officer joel alsworth? >> what's going on? >> we're in a crisis with sfpd they can't hire people and last stingt i was at the police academy as trainer and you know we used to when i got on the department in 2013, from oakland police department it was one of the most sought out departments. we were filling five academies year 50 applicants in the academy right now we're luxury if we can fill 10 applicants and we're running two to three academies a year recruitment at all time low nobody wants to work here because you've got a -- a vindictive d.a. for many years

even though that person just left. you have a mayor with antipolice setment and it affects police morale if i know i can fight crime and world but at the end of the day i'll put myself in a worse position because the scriewt nebraska is upon so great they might either -- get a complaint or worse lose my job and i can't feed my spheem why put myself in that position? >> police force is still 500 officers short so hands are tried to amount of issues in the city. >> you've you've seen massive drugs that are just been openly distributed you see the needles you see the caps. you see the safe injection sites. how damaging is that to the community? >> i mean, you look at me for an example i was living in san francisco for the last ten years i have two young boys nine and five. we have to move. because my son was constantly saying dad where where all of these needles on the ground and

car windows broken into? dad why are so many homeless? i had to explain this and i got tired of actually explaining to them i didn't know how to be honest, and so -- you know, we're seeing again a lot of these policies, they sound great in theory. but the application of them i think is not working. >> bay area residents forced to peenged for themselves to try to get to root of these problem we brought together some of the residents and business owners who are sounding the alarm. >> david, why not pack up your bags -- and just leave? >> i mean i work hard to get to san francisco it was like a dream city ten years ago this place was amazing. but as you guys made that question i'm kind of right there. i'm kind of ready to move on maybe -- we have to spend out of pocket money to take care of the stuff that i shouldn't have to worry about. a broken window cost $1700. >> you own a salon people come there to --

decompress. tell me about your situation. >> so within like six months i was broken into four times which is -- frustrating. and you know, i am a very small business that i startedded by myself and, you know, put in all of this work and then just to, you know, wake up time and time again and just having to like starts over. to the point where you know my insurance has been like kind of questioning like are these legitimate claims. >> when you see what happened to whole foods, and they -- they had a lot of capital behind them they have amazon they have jeff bezos behind them. and if they're closing down -- >> i was going say that when i saw the big businesses close it is so discouraging for us. we need all of these small business my business your business. i love this city. but like i think -- i went up i was telling you i went up polk street it is line a ghost town go downtown on any

day it is a ghost town. union square looks like a ghost town. >> apocalypse down there -- >> describe that for me. >> boarded up chains on doors no walk of life. that's the apocalypse. people sleeping on every doorway open air drug dealing open air drug markets. i've been assaulted three time just for being outside my building. 16 months ago i saw a guy kicking in a door and followed him to corner he pulled out switchblade around corn and ended up nearly cutting my left hand off with a five inch switchblade attack med me violently. they voted and they deserve when they get what would y'all say? >> how dare you. how dare you dish raised my family here my husband was born we did not -- deserve this. right we deserve politicians -- and leaders -- who are going to do their job -- that's what we deserve.

i think also the media has a lot to do with it because it is also pointed at the direction of you know having this attitude towards policemen of like they're bad, you know, or like just like negative there's no gratitude to the services that they provide for us. >> from a police perspective i wanted to share sometimes i think police officers are saying like, well, i mean you did vote for this and i can give a list of things we're talking about, you know -- prop 47 was one that, you know, brought crop property crime which is the autoburglars you see. it has to be over 950 dollars and if it's below that then this is not a felony. >> can i ask you prop 47 who agrees with that who thought it was a good idea? is anybody in supportive of it. >> apparently vote deers. >> because it was sold as safe schools act. we all thought it was a certain thing but it was sold as safe schools initiative. >> what will it take for the city to change? >> all of our problems can be

solved these are not unsolvable but a leg sawed off the camp this truly is a matter of leadership. the right decisions -- if you want to become a police officer right now this is the time. richard greenburg thank you so much for joining the program i wanted you on for multiple reasons one is -- you ran to try to change this city. but you were recently victim of a attack your car was broken in like many people in the city many visitors. is this ever going to come to end? >> well, first thanks for having me on tonight. yeah it was two nights ago -- within a block and a half of city hall i had just come out of a performance that the symphony hall there and you know disheartened to see that there was a small break in one of the side windows. disbelief but not completely unheard of you know, you think in high traffic area that there would be enough witnesses and people wouldn't be breaking in. but this says a lot more about the whole -- dynamic whole environment of what's happening in san francisco, i mean, in many areas.

that it's not necessarily a -- a gap between the wealthy and those who do not have means through be alive and to live what's happening is you've got a lot of drugs, a lot of drug dealers and a 24-hour market that's just within blocks of where i happen to have parked and you have the drugged a detects. those who either have been down on their luck and are living on the streets. or what we have learned over years is that, a lot of people from outside the city outside california, move here, they're addicts they get thrown out of the house they get a greyhound bus. >> sorry it interrupt you but there's people who have mental health issues and people that are just -- criminals of opportunity when you have prop 47, that allows then to steal anything, under 950 bucks, cops don't show up. cbs is gone. walgreens is gone now whole

foods has taken down their flagship. this is not mental health these are not homeless these are people like i want to rob and i know police won't come after me and they won't be prosecuted right? >> that is true as well you have the two it is a dichotomy they have those knowing not only is san francisco the police department over 500 officers short. but we only had 1500 more or less on duty. so we're down more than a third. you see so it is not like new york with tens of thousands of officers. we only had, you know, 1200 that are out on the street and any particular time or below that as well. so it's a combination of those that have the crimes of opportunities knowing that they could do this. and those who are addicted to drugs and mentally ill it is both. >> you guys deserve better and the public officials they need to do their job and they're refusing to do so sir thanks so much for coming on the program.

for 17 years -- and you have not are profit for 17 years why in the hell would you open up 5 new stores? explain that to me. >> right so just a couple of years ago lawrence, they made a new equipment to chicago after george floyd's death they said we're going keep stores here and double down on minority communities and two years later they're leaving and i think it is very simple as story that you just told about san francisco. you have a prosecutor in kim fox who will barely prosecute serious crimes that petty crime aren't getting prosecuted at wall maiforts a d.a. we have a wal-mart i made sure anyone who stole from wal-mart this would be prosecuted and wal-mart would raise prices and community would pay the price for -- higher grocery bills so this is the consequence of bad -- bad leadership whether it's now brandon johnson even more

and does not handle crime handle school choice, make sure that prices are down. this was a complete failure motivated by the race card. >> my favorite part of the sthiers wal-mart says look we tried to attend community events we gave money to all of the charities and people still would not come to our store. i want to play this quick side from suzanne rice talking about the cost of race. let's watch. >> the last 20 years, the u.s. had a gdp short fall of 16 trillion dollars. do to descridges against black americans. >> shawn. >> well listen it is not 16 trillion dollars but there's a shortfall for gdp and it's because you have democrats that don't invest in schools in communities of color. right so they've sold to teachers union instead of giving parents student -- a parental choice for schools to let the parent decide what school is best for my child.

you know, easy on the perps because he's not putting them away and how do we have nine -- we have one guy 90 arrests for stealing and robbery. and he's out on the streets. that's insane. lawrence: you say that as a democrat madeleine to you because you know this personally. but i want you to see polling out there because it's not just you or democrats on this panel. i want to go to this -- this is how would you rate new york as place where you feel safe 51% had a positive view 49% had a negative view. but when you break it down by women, this is the numbers on that. look at this -- male versus female -- then you go to race. i mean, the numbers are the number madeleine you've got black folks you've got -- you've got women saying that they have a negative view and there's nothing being done. >> uh-huh. thank you for having me,

realm of this right -- i like to deal with the issue on the ground. all right the people that are really affected the mothers down at the morgue mothers leaning in to coffins you know mothers in harlem hospital crying hoping that their child pulls through the night okay mothers who are fighting with their criminal justice system don't have to navigate being treated like garbage from the prosecutors office from legal aid, everything. all right, those are the people that i deal with. all right -- i stay out of the political part of this because politics is the thing that messed this all up. they're no elected official in office that is fit to be a dogcatcher let alone an elected official. pay taxpayer dollars they need to put that bargain reform law all of moving parts through the shredder get rid of it start over from scratch. all right, and put some stuff in place that's really going to do something to help the people

party. there's bernie sanders, there's aoc, the progressives control the party. period. so how are you going message to those people? are you prepared to take those folks on? >> i am. i am. i you know -- and there's some things that i agree with bernie sanders on. you know, but there's a lot of things that i don't. i have no problem getting rid of student debt. but if we're going get rid of student debt we're going to give the people that work their butts off and pay loans off on their loan we're going give them a break somehow or give them cashback. >> what is your thought on the trump indictment do you believe that was fair? >> if the man broke the law he needs to pay the price. no difference in president biden or hunter biden or -- obama or anybody else. the system of two party justice in this country with the rich and the poor they've got to stop. okay, the constitution says equal justice for all.

to subsidize and not have a plan to deal with the extra i love exhibition i know you do too that's why we view the world we do through reality when you subsidize something gets more of something and then when you get more of something you need to have a plan hopefully market has a plan to deal with the -- extra so what do you do with dead batteries do you have a answer for cobalt mines to open in third world superinhumane and environmental damage from the batteries that then get spoiled these are real question right so you might want to subsidize the proliferation of electric vehicles that sounds good makes you feel good. but does it actually do good? what we're going see is charging station issues rolling blackouts power grid failouts because when the government come he is with a heavy hand and interferes with market forces you're going to have three, four, five, six different negative ramifications that we might not be thinking of right now not to mention electric vehicles get a lot more expen pensive. middle class can't afford it plus i don't think anybody is

buying any of this climate thing what about the people of east pal seen there's a climate disaster it is destroyed cattle people can't breathe. and peta wasn't there. epa took drug their feet to get there and president still hasn't been there. >> that's right. now that's exactly right. and when we look at the kind of environmentalist agenda when you ask about other renewable form not renewable but low cost like nuclear oil and national gas they back away from it completely and you want to talk about actual environmental damage. there's places that they just scoff at they don't want to talk about it and so one other point here that i think is really important that i want to make is when we talk about electric vehicles and actually have government subsidize it. i think of how government subsidize student loans and higher education. and college, has that gotten cheap or an has the product become better? the track record is that the more the federal government involves itself and trying to
