rachel: straight to a fox news aletter. there has been a mass shooting in alabama. >> details are scarce as police work the scene at the moment. >> b brian llenas is live with what we know now. >> good morning, guys. i got off the phone with russell medical center, the hospital that is 18 miles away, about 20 minutes from dadeville, alabama. it is in east alabama.
6:01 am
the hospital tells me the russell medical center in alexander city, alabama, that they treated several victims that have been treated and released which is good news. but there are several victims that have suffered that are gunshot victims, that suffered wounds that had to be transferred to other hospitals. now, this is a rural hospital, russell medical center be alexander city, alabama. they have 81 beds. it's not unusual that they have to transfer patients sometimes that need to see specialists or certain wounds, especially like gunshot wounds. they wouldn't get into specifics about numbers or the ages of the victims, all we know is there are several gunshot victims from dadeville, alabama, that were treated at this hospital, near by alexander city that have been transferred to other hospitals. that's what we've been able to
6:02 am
glean in the last 30 minutes. fox news can confirm there was a mass shooting in dadeville, alabama. there is a scene outside of the mahogany masterpiece studio, a small town, population 3,000 people. the alabama state bureau of investigation is on scene as well. we are told to expect a press conference or more official information soon. it is very unusual, guys, that we have been waiting this long for information all night, really, for any official word of this happening. the alabama law enforcement agency told us it's, quote, a horrible situation and we do know from a local station, wrvl, their reporting is more than 20 people have been injured in this shooting. no no word on deaths, no word on suspect or suspects, no word on arrests. all we know is that according to their reporting, wrvl, most of
6:03 am
these victims are minors. teenagers. this was said to be a 16th birthday celebration at the mahogany masterpiece dance studio in dadeville, alabama. this is all happening, guys, this was said to happen at 10:30 last night. i can't stress how rare it is, that we have yet to get official information. not even a tweet that something happened from anybody down there. we've been working the phones overnight. as soon as we get it, we're told to cexpect something shortly an official word there. there was a second shooting in llouisville, kentucky as well. this is the second shooting in louisville in a week, two people killed, four transport todd a hospital, one in critical condition. police say someone shot into a crowd of hundreds of people at chicksaw park in louisville. we will keep you up-to-date as we try to get as much information as we can, guys.

rachel: thanks for staying on top of this story. we know you haven't been getting a lot of energy. information. everything you can, you're sharing with us. thanks, brian. the house judiciary committee republicans are set to hold a field hearing on violent crime in new york city tomorrow. >> several key witnesses who have been directly impacted by crime are scheduled to testify. >> mark meredith is live in washington with more. mark. >> reporter: will, rachel, pete, good morning to you. tomorrow house republicans are expected to highlight what they say is a crime crisis in new york city while criticizing district attorney alvin bragg. the nypd latest data shops rapes and robberies are down but felony assaults, vehicle thefts are on t upside. 100 people this year have been murdered in new york city, a 10% drop from this time last year. lawmakers are going to highlight an incident that happened last july when a 61-year-old was charged with murder after he stabbed a man in self-defense.
6:05 am
this is surveillance video from the incident. it shows the clerk was reacting after a 35-year-old approached him behind the counter. while he was arrested after the stabbing, charges were later dropped following widespread outcry. the post reports he has since moved out of the country. house republicans argue the da is going soft on crime and instead focusing on in their view political attacks against former president trump. bragg has reacted to the hearing, saying simply a political stunt. lawmakers are expected to hear from city council members, other criminal justice advocates who believe changes to new york's bail laws have truly made the city less safe. >> politics is the thing that messed this all up. there are no elected officials in office right now that is fit to be a dog catcher, let alone an elected official. they need to put that garbage bail reform law, all its moving parts, through the shredder. >> reporter: we are also hearing from the democratic ranking
6:06 am
member on house judiciary, congressman jerry nadler, said we'll talk about how this is part of jim jordan's and the republicans' general attempts to obstruct justice and attack the da and obstruct justice in the trump case. democrats are expected to talk about crime at the hearing. they'll be talking about crime happening in cities led by republicans, that hearing will take place tomorrow in lower manhattan. will, rachel, pete, back to you. >> thank you, mark. >> here's fascinating stats to couple what mark told you about the investigation, the hearing and what's taking place in new york. how about this. 327 people in new york have been arrested or rearrested, 6,000 times for shoplifting. 327 dudes doing the bulk of the shoplifting in new york. >> so you know the nypd he foesy who those guys are. many of them go to the same stores so it's like here he comes again, what's he going to
6:07 am
steal today. because of both the limited laws on the books and the way the da and others refuse to prosecute it's effectively a catch and release program. you lose safety and security and you lose the stores. they're saying we're out of here because we can't run a business this way. rachel: well, on cross country lawrence talked to new yorkers about the state of crime in the city. here's what they had to say. >> neighborhoods are changing. mine is changing. they're stealing left and right. it's dangerous to walk out at night. that's why i want to leave. and i think a lot of people feel that way also. >> it's changing. new york is done. it's just horrible. you look around here, you see the homeless guys, there's -- the night life is horrible. it's just bad. >> why wouldn't you retire in new york? >> because new york is nuts. >> i grew up in brooklyn. i love the city. it's not what it used to be. we're looking to move to westchester or further upstate. >> this is the greatest city that exists but nothing gets
6:08 am
done. >> it's true. rachel: do you think these hearings are important to have? new yorkers voted for this. they the knew they had a george soros kind of supported da there. they they knew what they were getting in chicago. they voted for somebody even worse than lori lightfoot if that was even possible to become their new mayor. i mean, the this is what they want apparently so why should we all care? >> i mean, it is america. we should want people to be safe. you're right, though. people are voteing in a one party city. by the way, i want to play a piece of tape from a former governor. rachel: okay. >> who was good at putting people into nursing homes with covid. he thinks he's the guy that should address crime for democrats. watch this. >> the far left doesn't want to talk about crime. they don't want to hear the word crime spoken. do you know who are the victims of crime? over 70% black, brown and poor.
6:09 am
so tell me who does the democratic party really represent? if not the black, brown and poor? and when you refuse to address the issue of crime, the people who are paying the price are the black, brown and poor. they're paying the price for your far left politics. >> pretty rich. pretty rich from a guy who -- he and bill de blasio locked the city -- rachel: that was the beginning of the decline. >> that's when things started to decline, and one of these guys gets out of office and suddenly spouts religion. >> what do you think he's doing. >> what do you think he's doing? >> i don't know. it's smart to say that. i mean, who is for the -- when you did a poll of americans, who is for bail reforms that increase crime? people said quality of life, front porch issues are the most important to everyone, left or right, just average voters.
6:10 am
so it's smart think this is not the way to go if you're a democrat but i don't know, do you think there's political aspirations -- rachel: he's trying to reinvent himself. >> it's his own skill he's not only good at it. politics, it's his own vocation. rachel: he could be so angry for being thrown out of the democrat party, maybe he's saying i'm going to attack you guys. >> so it's still all about andrew cuomo. nothing's changed. let's turn to national politician. the rnc is in nashville this weekend for an annual meeting, a lot of donors there as well. >> donald trump is there as well. and politico noticed maybe a little bit of a change, politico can go in many different directions. they're an insider politics publication. here's what they wrote about donald trump both at the nra and the rnc. trump turns from past to future at rnc donor retreat. there's something significant to this. here's a part of the article.
6:11 am
they write in his remarks to the gop elite gathered at the four seasons hotel, trump traded the election grievance rhetoric that defined his last two years in public office in the public eye for a different type of message, his vision for the future, while arguing he saved the republican party from the establishment class when he won in 2016 which is certifiably true. rachel: absolutely true. >> certifiably true as he looks out at rnc donors who are part of the establishment class but he has it seems over the last couple of months refined his message more toward, hey, they're coming after you, they have to go through me. here's what joe biden has done. here's what we'll do in the future. along side the mar-a-lago raid and indictments, it's led to a huge surge in poll numbers. rachel: a lot of people said he should make that pivot to talk about the future. it's really hard to -- if you feel like you've been cheated, it's hard to get over that. especially when you see what's happened to the country and if there's one thing i do know about donald trump, it's that he does love this country and i
6:12 am
think it's been really painful for him to see what's happened sin he left the presidency. that said, he's absolutely right. he's changed the republican party, the donor class, it's having to catch up philosophically and politically to what he's done to the party and a he didn't seem to get really hurt by the -- at all, in fact, i think it made him stronger, the indictment here in new york. >> let's show the audience niece numbers. we were doing the time line. this is a fox news poll. these numbers are from before the indictment in new york. >> correct. >> he's at 54% compared to ron de santis' 24%. now again, we saw a surge last summer after the raid on mar-a-lago from trump's polling numbers. these are in the public response to the indictment in new york. >> not yet. >> because we don't know, you can try to spin it either way if you want. but judging from the past, it probably would lead to a rally from donald trump. rachel: it's led people to drop out. pompeo dropped out and the
6:13 am
governor of virginia. >> glenn youngkin. rachel: kind of pretty much a stop on anything, any plans. >> and that number is -- that poll also came after -- i'm a big fan of ron de santis the. it came after his soft rollout and he went to key early states and started dipping his toe in the water, kind of came out on both sides of the ukraine issue, him talking about trump and the indictment wasn't helpful so this is in response to what was a shaky rollout and you add the indictment on top of it, could it be higher than 30 points? we don't know. there's no doubt he's the frontrunner. rachel: yeah. cnn's poll, do we have it here, it says 40% to 36% but this poll is a tricky poll because it's not a republican poll. it's not a primary poll. it includes leaning independent, leaning republican independents and so this is a poll that cnn turned out but -- >> it's also a month old.
6:14 am
rachel: exactly. >> a lot has changed. >> independents are important. have you to be able to win independent as well. >> not in a primary you don't. >> i don't know republican leaning independents, i'm not sure what that -- >> depends each state, whether you caucus or vote. rachel: what should ron de santis do now in the new environment of post the indictment. >> he's in a bit of a -- he's super popular in florida. the donor class wants him to run. there's been some -- there's some inside reporting that his retail politicking is not what people who like it to be, he's not a big interpersonal skills guy. he's personally of the maga movement. there's no doubt, we don't have ron de santis without the maga movement. how do you try to take down the guy who is like the moses of the maga movement, while also raising yourself up without you offending the base who is offended by the fact that donald trump has been indicted and attacked for six years before he
6:15 am
ran, while he ran and after he ran. you're running against the most powerful political movement the country has seen in a generation. >> it's just undeniable. and how do you do that? do you do it by tiptoeing? by atacking? attacking didn't work well in 2016. rachel: the soft position on ukraine i think was really -- i think people were expecting ron de santis to come out with a really clear -- that was a question, what is his foreign policy. he seemed to try to cut it both ways and i think it turned a lot of people off. i think frankly a lot of republicans are turned off by the ukraine war and the lack of transparency and what it's done with china and so forth. so i don't know. >> it's not easy. >> you're the one that told he me this week, you don't pick a moment, the moment picks you. rachel: that's exactly true. >> there's a lot of mom momentr there was a lot of momentum shoving ron de santis into this moment. i don't know. rachel: maybe something stopped the momentum. alvin bragg did it. >> might be. >> might be. >> all right.
