>> we are awaiting a news conference from alabama. at least four people dead and many others injured after reported sweet 16 party turn tragic last night. the shooting broke out around 10:30 p.m. no word yet on how many of the victims are teenagers. welcome to fox news live. an altercation at the gathering may have led to the shooting. charles watson is live with the latest on this developing story. good afternoon, charles.

>> not a lot of information coming from police in terms of that mass shooting. we are standing right outside of that crime scene. if i step out of the shot, you can see there is still a crime scene tape up. investigators are poking there investigation on the brick building over there. the alabama law enforcement agency confirms that four people were killed in a multitude of others injured. after a shooting at a birthday party at this location around 10:30 central time saturday night. there were a lot of reports out there that a lot of the victims involved in this shooting were teenagers. police have not confirmed that information just yet. we did speak with a witness a few minutes ago. he said he was a dj at what he describes as a sweet 16. out of nowhere, everyone was

startled by gunshots. he says that he does not recall altercation before hearing these gunshots. once the lights went up he saw a lot of bodies on the ground and he says he waited around as police were being called to get some help to these victims. he describes one of the victims as a teenager who had just recently received a college scholarship and was on his way to college. poli so far have not released any details in terms of the ages or the extent of injuries to a lot of these victims. authorities just a short time ago at a press conference telling us they are working around-the-clock to figure out what happened here as a call for prayers. listen. >> a tightknit community. full of wonderful people. i ask you to come up please, keep our community in your prayers. i ask you to keep my police department in your prayers.

and i also ask each of you, please do not let this moment define what you think about the city and our fine people. mike: we do know that a lot of the victims were taken to russell medical center in alexander city, which is less than 20 miles away from dadeville. we are told that a lot of the victims, some of the victims were treated and released and then other victims who were suffering from gunshot wounds had to be transported to other hospitals where they could get better care for their wounds. this afternoon we are curing from the governor of alabama. she sent out a tweet this morning saying i agree with the people. a violent crime has no place in our state. we are staying closely updated by law enforcement as the details emerge. in terms of details, police have

not said anything about a suspect or what exactly led up to this shooting. we are also curing from the white house this afternoon. president biden has been briefed on this shooting. he is monitoring the situation and has been in contact with local authorities to offer assistance. we are expecting a press conference in the next hour, hour and a half. hopefully, we will be able to report new information the next time we speak. >> you can hear the shock and the voice of law enforcement at that news conference. you never think it will happen in your community and then you figure it is a sweet 16 party, just shocking. what about that? >> the officers at the scene seemed absolutely shocked. you can sort of hear their voices try meringue as they started to talk about what transpired in this building behind me. since we have been out here at the scene, we have seen folks who we believe to be family

let's play him and then i will get you to respond. >> there is nothing heroic about this. even if you are apprising the american people about something they were not otherwise aware of. it is far outweighed by the damage to our national security and the lives that will be lost. the fact that i cannot name the americans and the people supporting america who will lose their lives, make it no less egregious. i would hope the comments would be extreme and provide a deterrent effect. >> what about the leaker and what should we do? >> his age is not the issue. it is his proximity and access. they have to assume that the process was followed according which means if this individual is able to do all of this than there is probably something wrong with the way we are screening folks. the other is the physical security of the information. i have not seen and i will not look at the classified documents out on the web. i can tell that they were

photographed. they may have been smuggled out or taken to a place where you can put photographs forward. there is a physical security part. both of those questions need to be addressed by congress. >> taiwan is vulnerable. taiwan officials doubt their air defenses can accurately detect missile responses. moving the jets to shelters would take at least a week. a huge problem if china launched missiles before taiwan had a chance to disperse those planes. >> i do not think that the united states is in a much better position. china going to that degree of open warfare. that being said, i am not a skeptical that they could not hold in on a fight. ukraine is a perfect example of this. do not underestimate the people's will to stand up. i give them a lot more credit for holding out and fighting off

the chinese. success will depend on the united states providing arms and ammunition as well support. >> let's talk about that a little bit. what more does the biden administration need to do to thwart these threats? >> they need to be very clear about what american red lines are in the back that up very quietly but with the significant american presence. they have done a pretty good job of maintaining a fairly significant naval presence. but that is not good enough. there needs to be a bigger stick than there is. >> some assessments that a taiwan invasion could happen in 2027. some folks predicting even sooner. could it happen next year during a presidential campaign in this country? >> there are couple points to this. they have spent 20 years doubling again their military and modernizing it for such an occurrence. coming at the end of 20 years of

preparing and they think that they are about ready. what really needs to be clear is what the united states is ready to deal. a congress to build a military that is needed. also looking at the ability to maintain that force. logistics and economic resiliency as well. all fronts. >> a forthcoming book dealing with some of these issues. can you give us a cliff notes version of it? >> largely failing the last decade plus. it is not a partisan issue, it is an american issue. getting close to the point where they think it's go time for the war. not a strategic high level or a tactical level but a sweet spot in the middle. how we navigate this decade and do so by avoiding a war and signaling very clearly what the united states interest are and do it in a way that is constructive. not just fixation on china but the strategic distraction that

migrants have been removed under title 42 since october 1 when the new fiscal year began. of course, that begs the question what happens, where do all of those people go after ma. dhs insists that there is a plan in place like requiring migrants to use a cbp application to set up appointment times for them to enter only through an authorized port of entry. many still continue illegally crossing. the border patrol chief here for the el paso sector says in the last five days they have average some 1500 apprehensions every single day. >> we are still expelling under title 42. you are getting the assistance of other sectors to be able to expel through those southwest border parts of entry. they are not located here in the el paso sector.

>> also this past week another texas dps pursuit. at state highway 131 is a major smuggling corridor. you can see the truck stopping multiple times leading migrants bail out and run before taking off again. eventually, that truck was stopped and the driver and passenger were arrested. looking ahead to tomorrow, texas governor greg abbott will be speaking at an event in the rio grande valley sector. that will be involving the southwestern border sheriffs coalition. no doubt a lot of information could come out of that is a problem no longer exists in texas but across the entire southwest border, as we know. >> our viewers have gotten familiar with places like eagle rock texas. you are in el paso. is the problem different in el paso than it is some of the other border crossings?

>> good question. it is. the activity here is really increasing. we see that with the numbers. we followed it where the numbers have been telling us to go. that is been over in the del rio section which is eagle pass texas where we have been seeing those large groups crossing. the bull cow shifted further west over to el paso here. this sector had more than 150% increase in the number of migrant apprehensions that they have seen this fiscal year compared to the same period of time last year. one of the reasons is walrus is just across from el paso another major mexican city and that has become somewhat of a staging area for migrants waiting to cross over into the country. one of the reasons why activity has picked up so much here in el paso as of late. mike: covering the great state of texas and the border for a long time.

senator tom cotton tweeted rewarding illegal immigration will bring more illegal immigration. this is an insult to american citizenship. what about that concern? >> we call it -- certain things that draw people across our border illegally. allowing the cartels to go throughout the world and advertise their services. any time people think they can come to the united states illegally and receive benefits, they will continue to come. these are people that were brought here as children through no fault of their own. that does not matter, they are still in the united states illegally. that is how the cartels advertise their services. they constantly tell people all you have to do is make it into the united states and then you will get all of these free benefits. that is one of the pressure points that adds people to break our resources on the border. we do not have the resources to deal with what is going on.

we want to warn our audience at the video is graphic. this homeowner put up a heck of a fight. he took on a group of guys trying to steal his car. the homeowner at sprint into his driveway and yank one of the would be thieves from his white infinity. the violence was caught on the homeowner surveillance camera on april 10 in rocky hill connecticut. 10 miles south of hartford. two other guys joined the suspect and trying to beat down the homeowner. one guy jumped on his back. one kicks a victim in the face and tries to beat him with a shield. calling police and the suspects eventually run off. >> i'm calling the cops. go ahead. >> just crazy stuff they are. the homeowner treated for his injuries at the hospital. fortunately, he is expected to be okay. >> the scary moment watching

that video. that is what makes it so shocking to all of us. this guy could have been seriously injured. thank god that he was not. a lot of the suspects now carry weapons, guns, knives. it is not worth it. >> police release a surveillance video in an attempt to identify the suspects. so far, no arrest in this case. mike: any sense of the timing of this? it looks like broad daylight. the mac it is very shocking. we will also hear from neighbors a little later today. they were just horrified by this incident. it happened around 7:00 o'clock at night on april 10. it was still light outside. very, very bold for these guys to just go into his driveway and just try and steal his car. can you imagine looking through your window and seeing some guy just fidget through your stuff, go through your stuff? that is exactly what that man, that victim saw.
