may be largest classified leak in recent history. what was the leadership? i support an investigation on house armed services or house oversight. both committees i sit on today to get more information on how this happened. and i want to know like every other american, who was in charge? each side right now once i was calling him a traitor one side is calling him a hero neither side has the information or they dated to be able to make that decision yet because there's been no investigation. we have not even had our first classified briefing which will happen later this week we are back in session. shannon: he'll be back in court too. there's also the issue of how all these documents were percolating out there on the internet. also journal editorial board says this it is fair to ask of the documents can circulate for weeks on discord and other platforms without u.s. counterintelligence agency finding out until the press reported it. is this another case of misplaced priority by the federal bureau of investigation? so that back and part of the story, who is to blame for the lengthy time it took for us to

discover this? >> at the end of the date ultimately it will be dod and the pentagon who will be to blame for this. the other question is leadership on the ground that this young man worked for. how dhec was he able to take classified documents, it sounds like out of a skiff break take pictures of them, take them home, take pictures and put them on discord. it is crazy to think this was happening. it's clear that no one was watching where this young man was working and what he was doing. shannon: will dig into more of that later on the show. want to talk with the controversial issues now the gop is dealing with. you sought lucas reporting there about the nra beat all the big stars think people in the rain for 2024 or maybe, showed up there. this comes in missed as the hill puts it among a shadow of another round of mass shootings again over network tracking this one out of alabama. the hill says this it puts republicans in a tricky position as they juggle aligning themselves on key issues that bode well amongst their base

while risking alienating another block of voters that have been proven, they can't make or break critical elections. what is this conversation about guns go now? >> what we need to have this conversation i will tell you. every mass shooting there is just silence and prayers are offered, easter baskets are offered but no real solutions. i am a constitutional conservative. but i will tell you, shannon, about a week ago my kids and i were a mile away from mass shooting in south carolina were six people were shocked. without the immediate aftermath of that shooting. all of the police cars and ems be the first think my kids asked me in moments after that shooting is hey mommy, where is the amber alert to let us know we are near a mass shooting and maybe we should have taken cover? or maybe not left the house so we can be safe? republicans can no longer be silent on this issue. i sent about the second amendment there plenty of things that we can be doing besides offering prayers and silence. some sort of amber alert for
11:09 am
example to let the community at there's been a shooting pain strengthening our background checks is something the vast majority of americans support. hardening our schools, churches, synagogues so there is deterrence so when a potential mass shooter enters a place they know that maybe they are not going to make it through because her bullet doors, bulletproof windows. those kind of common sense things are all things every american on either side of the aisle can get behind. but yet, every time there's a mass shooting in their increasing every year, every week, we do not say anything when we want to bear bury our heads in the sand and hope it goes away but guess what it's not going away. i see it i'm a very purple district even though i'm in south carolina. it is an issue that continues to be a problem for republicans. we have not learned anything from midterm elections if we are going to sit here on our hands silently not offering any type of solution to reduce gun violence in our country. shannon: mode you say about -- this bipartisan legislation it got through that the president

desk last year. there are places there been incremental changes. jon cornered by the chief negotiators that the top republicans in the senate, i do not know there is an appetite. he talked about hardening target a lot of people on the left was a don't talk about that, we don't care about that it's not going to work at only about the guns. is there any common ground for this on capitol hill right now? >> of the vast majority of americans there is common ground. now both sides whether talk about abortion or gun violence both sides attended dig their heels in and not offer any middle ground for every working gun violence issues for a number of years as a state lawmaker. and now is a member of congress. i'm trying to show a way we can do that. what are the us their issues we haven't strengthening our background checks is of all these databases of the federal and state level that are all over the place for this not piece of software you can merge all that information together to know in 60 seconds whether this is a bad guy trying to buy a gun. it does not have to be complicated but we need to show leadership on sensitive issues.
11:11 am
these are issues that motivate our constituencies and voters especially independent voters. and shanna, quite frankly republicans have not won the majority the popular vote in years when it comes to the presidency rate that is something we need to work on and do better this is an issue that we can went on. shannon: 's clear one of the issues you think the parties are doing well is the issue of abortion as what you say your prayer life i want to read that susan b anthony pro-life american list has shipper they say yes you voted largely pro-life. that confusion is using out certain protections for unborn children undermine thoughtful strategy of pro-life members of congress who are working to push back against extremism of pro- abortion members of congress. so, how do you define pro-life question authority set the limits word you sent restrictions and exceptions appeared. >> i find it ironic susan b anthony would attack me a victim of right i advocate for women who have been raped that organization will no longer talk to my office about pro-life
11:12 am
legislation because i am talking about birth control. some of these groups have gotten so over the top and extreme. we need to find a middle ground on this issue. i have a great pro-life voting record. somebody stances we have taken, especially when it comes to rape, incest, protecting the life of the mother is so extreme the middle independent writers right of center at left of center cannot support us. again i represented purple district. i talked to a vote of the other day and she left the republican party of this issue she's an independent voters she is pro-choice. her gestational limits are up 14 weeks. i am a pro-life legislator i met 15 -- 20 weeks for this a lot of middle ground pretty think it's important and how we talk about these issues. and offer solutions we've got 14 counties in south carolina do not have a single ob/gyn doctor. if we're going to ban abortion what are we going to do to make sure women have access to birth control? how do we improve adoption
11:13 am
services in our country? what about the kids that are not wanted? what about her foster care system? what about getting nurses that can treat women who need ob/gyn care in those rural areas. what are you doing about getting birth control over the counter pharmacies. there are a lot of things we can do to protect life and not alienate the independent voter. as it susan b anthony's is too. >> my missing they have the problem with birth control. for them it's issue of abortion. i want to put a couple gallup polls here. to look at where americans are on this issue we hear the majority of the country is pro-choice, to think that way the last few years he's recent polling about whether it should be legal under certain circumstances 50% of americans in a 13% illegal in all circumstances. the people who clearly have issues. many look at the trimester framework, by the timing of the second trimester a majority of americans in this poll 55% of them say they think abortion should be illegal that's hitting the 13 week point. here's what senator graham said about how this is being handled
11:14 am
last week on "fox news sunday". >> if you are pro-life you need to explain what that means. here is what it means to me. i want to protect as many babies as possible. i want exceptions for pregnancies as a result of rape, incest, the life of the mother is in jeopardy. the family can decide. i do believe in common sense restrictions on abortion. that is where america's out by the democratic solution when it comes to abortion is taxpayer-funded abortion up to the moment of birth that is barbaric. that is like china, that is like north korea pregnancies among other to say republicans are failing because they are not clearly articulating their positions and they are not clearly articulating the democrats positions either. is that fair? >> i would agree with that but i think that is fair. but what i saw also left or the midterm elections i saw us lose the seats waited. i actually made this issue a cornerstone of my campaign but had an ad about rape talking about exceptions because i wanted voters to know where i
11:15 am
stood on the issue. fred op ed said that a number of interviews. i have made very clear what my position is. rather than winning by at one point which is why when my two years ago i first came to conversation up winning by 14 points because i clearly articulated where i was on the issue part even though i am pro-life i represent a pro-choice district. and i saw the tide change after roe was overturned mildly pro-choice to being vast majority of voters being pro-choice after roe v wade it change the entire electoral environment and 22 for outside basis hundred grams comments and positions i have taken we have not learned our lesson from the midterm election. shannon: you are saying you can embrace it and talk about is selling tech but increasing emerge in there. is it just to think gop lawmakers and candidates are not articulating this carefully? or should they say with the issue altogether? >> they should not stay away from it. they should be vocal and articulate where exactly they
11:16 am
stand to try to find the middle ground premier chocolate rape and incest the vast majority of people absently agree. talk about a 15 week band, most people agree with that as well. birth control, these are all things women support where both are watching and said it seems like and feels like were burying our heads in the sand put into my stick my head out and take a position are taken very publicly publicly. republicans will call me privately is and what bill do you want to do with me? what press conference? they're silent it's forgets its tone deaf we are afraid of the issue because we are afraid of her base? but that is not with the base is. i prime rate last year i would argue the point person beat president trump in a primary. i wanted by nine points for this is been my position all along. i've not change who i am. i've stood my ground on my principles and my beliefs. and we won resoundingly. shannon: will see how the republicans take that tact thank you for being with us again.
