your life is downgraded. people are thinking that none of this makes sense. why would you charge a man with murder in a bodega who had to defend himself with a guy with a knife. the only answer is that this kind of chaos, bragg has downgraded 52% of all felony cases last year to misdemeanors. this is also a framework where you can say crime is down or felonies are down because you just simply eliminate felonies. making illegal immigration legal. then you stopped illegal immigration. it is a miracle. i think this is schumer doing remarkable in creating this dynamic to them pound the desk and say this is horrible. they are going after the fbi. the fact of the matter is we need reform. absolutely. what is going on in new york is exactly what the democrats want.

judiciary committee had this to say. we will show the fraudulent nature to jim jordan and company claiming about the crime rates in new york and compared to other cities including republican led cities and we will talk about how this whole hearing as part of jim jordan republican attempts to obstruct justice in the trump case. guy, your reaction. >> it sounds, based on that that the democrat will actually show up to this hearing, which they have not done down at the border. two border hearings. one including this exact committee. there are been oversight hearings, one in texas, one in arizona were democrats simply did not show up at all. they felt like they did not want to give political legitimacy to the hearings that were happening. really what they did not want to do is see the truth or participated something that would be damaging because the facts are damaging.

in this case they've decided they've got to counterpoint. let's cherry pick some statistics and say new york is not so bad compared to these cities. democrat run cities overwhelmingly are much less safe. i hope that the victims are treated respectfully by democrats because sometimes democrats overplayed their hand because they have all of their people and their bubble saying this is about dragon trump and all of this other stuff. look, there politics at play. no question. ultimately people that have suffered a great deal of harm. we will hear from some of them tomorrow. you cannot just sort of airbrush away their actual lived experience which does reflect these statistics in the data as well. it's not like republicans are making up this statistic. people are saying to pollsters that they feel unsafe. based on nothing. >> i'm sorry, look out the window, walk around the streets

89-year-old california senator dianne feinstein to resign. the congressman said gavin newsom should "appoint a caretaker." watch this. >> he does not have to appoint someone in the current race. i would support the governor doing that. this has nothing to do with the covered race because a caretaker would solve that. this has to do with someone just not showing up. i said out loud what people have been saying in private. >> let me say this. we all wish senator feinstein well, that she recovers fully. i guarantee you wherever she is today she sounds better than ideal. is there a double standard here may be at play? >> where were the calls from democrats for john federman who missed more time than senator feinstein. at where the calls for him to resign? he is supposed to be coming back

this week. dianne feinstein has shingles. last time i checked, a life-threatening condition that she has. what is out play, let's say barbara lee has already announced she is running for feinstein's. the chairman of barbara lee's committee. barbara lee would get a two-year lead into taking that seat. this is just raw, many believe discussing politics at play in d.c. on the judiciary committee, they cannot pass liberal justices through that committee to offset the justices. without a majority of that committee. there is no way that you will get another democrat until feinstein comes back. that is what is driving this. this is why people hate washington. >> coming to the defense.

field, you may get sick, that does not mean that you forfeit your seat. she has said she is not running in 2024. that is more than what joe biden has said. this happens when you don't have a big majority in the senate. these problems then exist and you will have to work and deal with the other party. that is what the voters wanted. they have given no control over that body because, and i wish they had given the republicans. i worked on that campaign and 92. i was a president of the l.a. chapter of now. working on making up for that. but, i can tell you then and now, she has really considered a moderate. she ran as a moderate. barbara boxer at a tougher time because she is a liberal. not just because of the votes now, but because of the nature of what she represents. they want that seat, the trajectory of the democratic party. it is a shame, but she should not give that up. she is ill, she will recover and

i like the fact that she has supports their. >> the median age is 65. you will have stuff like this. mitch mcconnell, the republican leader, he is expected back for the first time in weeks. we wish him well, of course, as well. griff sort of threw some stuff out there. what do you make of this story? >> 89 years old. that is quite impressive. she said she has been out with shingles. out with complications from the shingles. shingles thankfully is usually temporary, treatable, most high-risk individuals such as the elderly are those that get affected by it. i am glad to hear that she is doing well. i wish her a full recovery. i do not think that it is indecent to have the conversation of what is someone's physical and mental capabilities for performing their job.

we look at this every day when we are talking about future risks and what are their capabilities and how can they be. as an 89 year old woman that has now had major medical issues, it's okay we have those questions. tough questions i have. it is not ageism, it is reality. when she comes back, she will have to be honest with the constituents. how many more will she miss? >> maybe not ageism, but, tammy, we are hearing ties of sexism in this case. nancy pelosi came out in sort of gun blazing rhetorically saying interesting they are saying it's about diane, but not about men. do you think that is a fair point? be met with mcconnell, concussion, federman situation seems to still be undefined and that troubles people. there is still not that go to it. power and influence, perhaps, i don't quite know what the democrats are thinking, i don't think that they quite know either. this seems to be a media

merit. you would have to really accomplish something before you were rewarded. that was the point of sports. you have some young men doing all of this. what is your take? >> i did not like when they took away the ranking. no one gets first, second or third place? i have a huge problem with that. i don't like this bill at all. everyone who made it to that tournament or that game, they have worked hard. it is okay to give them some reward for their hard work for even getting there. you still need to have that rank we need to continue to reward exceptionalism. it gives them some form of motivation and it acknowledges their hard work as well. you have colleges that are doing away with the sats, medical schools and law schools doing away with things. the richest most educated nation yet we are in a race to mediocrity. how low can we go? that is the biggest problem that

i have. rewarding exceptionalism in our work. >> take a listen to this. this is bill larkin a youth baseball coach defending awarding all athletes participation trophies. here is the argument. >> depending on the personalities involved it can be very meaningful. if it keeps them coming back to the sport i think it is worth it. what is the harm it is going to do? >> all due respect, doctor nicole, being on the team as a reward. the opportunity as a reward. that is why fighting to get she was how two, three matters. in that case, what's the harm? this comes to merit. there is only one world series trophy to one team. you cannot all be winners. nicole's point, we are trying to be the greatest country in the nation by being winners.

you have to break the hard truth to other children. you did not get the trophy because you did not win. you are not a winner, work harder. if you start telling kids, what are they, eight, 10 years old, that coach is ruining the competitive spirit in those kids i like to run marathons. every time i finish one i am definitely not first. that is not this. you are talking about being a winner, not a loser. that is what you have to instill in young people to put that fire in their belly. >> sports is an incredibly important dynamic. you cannot get a job. you can fail at something. you can still become champions.

it is a natural thing that would happen. that you can actually become better and become the star if you work hard enough. >> i am not a huge fan of participation trophy culture. i am not sure if this is the best use of lawmaker time. i want to shock the panel here despite my physique. i was not terribly athletic as a kid. we had field days where we would get little ribbons. kids know. i would get a participation ribbon and occasionally i would do okay at something and i would earn a better ribbon for something i have achieved. those are the one i care about. the kids you got the participation ribbon, we had them, that's fine, but you are not going to show them off because it meant nothing. what meant something was a guy who came in first with the blue ribbon. obviously, we have a problem in our society when it comes to this mentality, but kids know.

>> welcome back to the big sunday show. transportation secretary back at it again and he is claiming roads are racist. taking his claim one step further. take a listen. >> we have a crisis when it comes to roadway fatalities in america. comparable to gun violence. racial disparities, black and brown. they are much more likely to lose their lives in the car or as a pedestrian being hit by a car. a lot of reasons related to discrimination. even the way that roads are designed and have access to a safe street design that has crosswalks and good lighting. that can drive disparities. >> you know, grist, i don't say this often but secretary pete and i, we agree on some of this. what he was referencing right there is true. the journal of medicine shows non-hispanic black 773% higher

fatality rate than non-hispanic whites. non-hispanic blacks are four times, four times at risk of dying from cycling, twice as high of risk while out walking at twice as high while driving. what do you make of this? >> there is some truth rooted in his claim. the transportation sec. used to be the mayor of indiana when he ran for president a horrific racial disparity problem and marijuana arrest. a single african-american leader in his administration. he essentially was disqualified as a candidate by people like al sharpton. while there may be some truth in some statistics, good on him for working on it, but, here is the other thing. remember, we were just talking in recent weeks about the fact he believes transportation policy as climate policy.

if you are taking care of railways and railcars going off and things like we saw in east palestinian happening, you should be focusing on that rather than issues of climate change and racial disparities. it isn't drifting into maybe there is something there, but, way out of your league. >> tma, launching a $1 billion pilot to build racial equity in the roadways. we are talking about the motor vehicle accidents and deaths that secretary pete is talking about, when you look at it, 90% are secondary to speeding in a huge chunk is due to driving under the influence, but yet he is talking about building roadways to connect the poverty areas with the higher economic areas. how is that focusing on decreasing the deaths as they pertain to motor vehicle accidents. >> this is a distraction so you

don't look at the den imx. more accidents for people of color, for black americans because they are further away from their job, because they cannot afford to live where their job is so they have to drive further. you can argue perhaps more bicycle accidents because some people cannot afford cars or because of the economy they cannot afford gas. you out of gas prices, you have the job situation, you have the economy that isolates people in the city versus the suburbs and the nature of the choices that we have. speeding, a single mom of two and you get three hours of sleep at night because you have no one to help you you and no other money, that is what this administration does not want to address. a billion dollars for a pilot. now they are making these regulations to make gas powered cars more irrelevant while the cost of electric vehicles is tens of thousands more than a

gasoline powered car. >> if you are driving a car that is, you know, a secondhand car, the brakes are not great, more inclined to get into an accident because of the car, how you will not have a car because you cannot afford the electric vehicle. this is smoke and mirrors. it is a word salad when it comes to policy. it means nothing. it will really help no one. their real health is improving the economy so people of color can make the same kind of decisions everyone else is making. trump was on his way to decreasing the wage gap. the democrats now, wages going down, inflation, recession expected at the end of the year. it will affect people on the margins first, and that means people of color. don't talk to me about roadway bridges. let's talk about the economy, have different cars and the sport that they need at home to go to the jobs that they have.

16 party in alabama. charles watson is live in dadeville. hey, charles, what is the latest? >> we are still searching for answers in terms of what led to the mass shooting and why investigators had been out at the crime scene behind me for most of the morning, throughout the day combing through. trying to find as much evidence as they can to figure out what happened here. they cleared out in the last 20 minutes or so. they have been focusing on this brick building behind me called the mahogany masterpiece. we spoke to a witness out here earlier today who told us he was djing a sweet 16 party inside this building late saturday night when someone opened gunfire inside that party around 10:30 central time. the alabama law enforcement agency did confirm earlier today that at least four people were killed and multiple other victims injured during the course of that gunfire.

that witness we just referenced a few moments ago, he said prior to the gunshots, he did not see or hear a confrontation. so it really startled everyone inside. i want you to take a listen to what he had to say and what he did in the moments after those instructions.
