oversight committee chairman james comer telling fox news digital, it is clear from our investigation that hunter and other members of the biden family were involved as they made millions from foreign adversaries like china. we've been wondering where the doj and irs have been and it appears biden administration may have been working overtime to prevent consequences. >> todd: brooke singman has the latest. >> brooke: that is right, mark ridel, the attorney representing the whistleblower sending a letter to lawmakers claiming the agent has disclosures that show improperly affected decisions and protocol that would be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected. he says his client is ready to

week. >> todd: six after the hour, new poll has president biden approval rating at 39%, near the all-time low of 36%. biden's economy is a big reason with voters saying they are not optimistic about the president's economic agenda. that did not stop the president from touting his economy and launching another attack on maga republicans. >> president biden: kevin mccarthy went to wall street to describe the maga economic vision for america. threat of defaulting on america's debt for first time in 230 years, we've never ever defaulted on debt and it would destroy the economy. >> this is not draconian, it is know special. federal spending exploded. president biden has a choice, come to the table and stop playing partisan political games. >> ashley: ej an toni, regional
1:08 am
economics at heritage foundation joins us now. biden approval rating is tanking, it is 39% right now as people are trying to keep their head above water with the economy. is this blame game tactic what biden needs to be doing right now ahead of his re-election bid? >> well, ashley, i don't think so. you might say his poll numbers are so low, they are adjusted for inflation. this president unleashed worst inflation in 40 years, tax that falls heavily on middle class, on savers and zaps purchasing power. the average family is $7100 poorer today than when biden took office because of his policies and families i think understand that at this point.
1:09 am
>> todd: joe biden seems to be unserious when it comes to the economy because of consistent attacks on maga this and maga that. joe has been in charge of the economy for 2-1/2 years at this points, it is time he put up or shut up. who is going to cave on the debt ceiling negotiations, is it biden, mccarthy, somewhere in the middle? what say you? >> that's a good question. historically, neither side gets what they want, that usually happens. my guess is we will have some kind of compromise which frankly mccarthy's plan is shaping up to be that, that is kind of stacking the deck in his favor. >> todd: interesting. >> ashley: what do you think america thinks of in particular the middle class, try are trying to keep their head above water right now, when they hear this, will this move the needle at all? >> i think so. i think what americans are
1:10 am
seeing is more money in their paycheck, but it can buy them less. americans are seeing they can't afford gas and groceries at the same time in some instances. americans are realizing this is a direct result of failed policies where politicians think we can spend everything we have and then some, as well. >> todd: we ask which is better, who wins, who will lose? another one of those. a situation where the american people have to budget their own families and make sure they don't exceed their spending limits. average american sees joe biden saying, we can blow through that and kevin mccarthy saying, we are going to budget. on the other hand, a segment of the democratic party is saying socialism is good, give out a lot of free stuff. that american person is the voter, which one wins out, the rush to give people free stuff
1:11 am
or need from every americaning and understanding you need to balance your budget at some point? >> i think the latter. i think americans are waking up to the reality that you cannot spend, borrow and print trillions of dollars and not expect any kind of negative consequences. when you do that, you turn into venice and we have a treasury secretary who thinks pushing the debt to 50 trillion and having multiple gdp is no problem at all. i don't understand why anyone is giving respect to people who call inflation transitory for so long. >> ashley: you mention the treasury secretary, janet yellen, talk about her for a second. she is set to speak on relations amid strained ties later today, 55% of americans say they are not confident in president biden's ability to deal with china. what are your thoughts?
1:12 am
>> i think that speaks to his track record and i think that is another example of the american people just observing the reality around them. biden has failed to protect us from the ccp. and biden has failed to project american interest abroad. instead he continues to allow our greatest enemy, china, to project their interest here at home. >> todd: i don't see janet yellen going over there and calming any nerves. of all the people the white house could end is, i'm not looking at janet yellen like everything is going to be okay. >> ashley: she wouldn't be the savior in my opinion. thank you for your time, we appreciate it. >> thank you for having me. >> ashley: of course. secretary of state antony blinken could be held in contempt of court after missing deadline to turn over information about president

i know having speakers that disagree is frustrating and unjust to redirect it. putting a warning around campus before john root's speech and the university cancelled the event, forced it to move away. look who is here now, john root joining me now. instead of protecting free speech, doesn't it seem like the school doubled down on censorship? >> absolutely, there was an assault on riley gaines and now an assault on free speech and i think what we're seeing now is they are holding to their values if their values are intolerance and fascism. trying to -- the reason we moved is there was no assurance the chapter would not receive disciplinary action and no as

we see in our lifetime. i did something today san francisco state refused to, i condemned the violence against riley gaines and called out the activist trans actists that held her for ransom and assaulted her. it is not difficult to see videos and call out wrongs. >> todd: charlie kirk said you better not cancel this event, you are bound by the first amendment, we have great lawyers. we'll see if that happens. kudos to the brave students who stood up and risk so much to be there on the flip side, jon. you really understand why when indoctrination universities like sfsu, why they can't handle it. big problem on our hands, not just sf state. you are rooting it out. thank you. this is what happens when you run from a texas dps person.

using drugs? this is a real story. honestly, it seems like it is gambling with people's lives, what do you think? >> jonathan: really depends who you ask. reasonable people want this to, wo. they say it is new and innovative and never been tried before. you have critics saying why are we gameifiying addiction? like going to chuck e. cheese and trying to get points. if addicts stay clean and sober. at the end of the day, it is something the city is willing to try and go evera. it comes down to intervention and requirements, we'll have to wait and see. >> ashley: a lot, i think it was in seattle or portland, one of the two that has a bad drug problem, will end uptaking gift cards, buying water bottles, dump them out and get it for cash and go buy more drugs.

what is the solution to this? i can't see that gift cards and prizes and tokens are going to help, what should they be doing for the root cause of this? >> jonathan: i talk to so many addicts on the street and homeless people. eight out of 10 homeless people are addicted to some sort of elicit drug. they all say they want community, they want to get off the drugs in most cases, the support services are not there. mental illness, drug addiction and broken relationships, if those areas are not addressed with intervention, we'll see the crisis spiral out of control and great point, ashley issue the concern is gift cards will be flipped for pennies on the dollar so addicts can buy more drugs and you have addicting
