we'll send it back to you. >> bill: nice to see you. b bill -- >> dana: the republicans find it infuriating that he has the exact same tone and answers no matter what the rkts are on the ground and unlikely he will be removed from his job. the republicans yes, mayokas is in charge of the homeland security department but the policy is set by the white house and it's joe biden. to me as you gear up for 2024 the only way you change this is if they can change something there. >> bill: "new york post" front cover. biden lied and there is a number of things on the inside about the border being open, shelter beds 130% capacity and new york's mayor, eric adams this week says the president has failed this city. that's from a democratic mayor in the biggest city in the country. >> dana: some of the things he wants to do to fix it are not exactly the same but he is not wrong there are significant

what was it like inside the room and what options give you hope or make you stay up at night? >> it was eye opening whether you were a democrat or republican in the room you realized that we have got to get our head on straight because there is a real -- a very real chance china will use aggression to try to unify taiwan and china. president xi has said that. when you go through the tabletop exercises it becomes very clear very quickly that if america just turns the other way or if we fail to prepare, things are going to get a lot less safe in this globe. we have some work to do. >> bill: one of the things you said is to properly deter china, you need allies. taiwan has very few allies around the world. you think about only 12 vatican city, be lease, these are the

up. >> dana: did any involve american troops in the fight? >> absolutely. largely maybe an air force. we aren't talking about marines, boots on the ground there on taiwan holding the line against chinese soldiers. but if china decided they wanted to take taiwan tomorrow 95% of the world's chip manufacturing would be lost to america. that's not the kind of thing that we can allow to happen. so what do we need to do? we need to build production here in this country and need to build it with our allies, the chinese communist party are our adversaries and we should stop them from gaining any more coercive economic power over our country and others. but i think we need to be willing to use our air force and use our navy to try to keep bullies and thugs from seizing whatever they want. when the bullies win this globe gets a lot less safe for americans.
7:10 am
>> bill: a couple months ago the white house announced 100 to 200 u.s. service members will be deployed to taiwan. has that happened? if it has, why not send more? >> i don't know exactly how many of them are already there. i would tell you i think it's a good decision by the president. he and i disagree on a lot but having 100 to 200 dedicated trainers and american military experts on the ground is going to help taiwan to prepare. the united states is not going to do this alone. taiwan needs to take the lead role in making sure they are strong enough to deter aggression from the chinese communist party. i think it's the right move. as far as why not more, we don't want to put american men and women in the position of holding that island. taiwan has got to play the lead role in holding that island. america can help but it is not our job alone. >> bill: okay. >> dana: thank you for being here. great to have you here.
