held a press conference on wednesday casting blame on republican leaders in congress also president bite inside the white house could take a series of steps to help the city address the influx of migrants and asylum-seekers without gop support. one of the steps adams called for or authorizations. >> want to assure asylum-seekers can start to work immediately. fortunately it made contact with a stroke of a pendant. that's all it takes the stroke of a pendant. >> response to adam's remarks on wednesday a white house official reportedly pushed back in a statement saying in part some asylum-seekers are eligible for work authorization under expanded programs and temporary protected status granted to certain groups free. >> alright he so much, arthel. arthel: guess where we are going to now, the race for the white house in 2024 as we await official word from president biden on the reelection campaign
1:09 pm
he has said he intends to launch. according to a new report president will soon huddle with donors in d.c. i had over 2024 announcement next week. lucas tomlinson face at the place to beat where the president wants to stay in others want to kick him out. lucas, what is the latest? >> arthel this is been months in the making. the white house as it does he want to talk about it. >> i'm not going to talk about 20 of 24 is going to look like you're not talk about that from here. as a government employee federal law prohibits me from discussing campaign related topics from his podium. >> will be able to dress about 2024? >> you know, i don't have anything to say about 2024. >> a new poll from the associated press said most people do not want the oldest president in u.s. history to run again. he will be 82 at the beginning of a potential second term not just most, 73% of adults do not invite them to run again.

and a majority of democrats although 41% of democrats say they will definitely vote for biden if impressive is the nominee and 40% say they will probably vote for him as well. those remaining about 14% of former biden supporters said they went 69 on robert f kennedy jr. who announced this week he will be challenging the president despite being friends of biden's and having other candy serving in the administration. that son of the former attorney general and nephew of the four president spoke earlier with neil cavuto. >> the polarization in this country is not toxic radioactive any time since the civil war that's really both republicans and democrats talk about it and almost apocalyptic old terms. they do not see a way out of it. >> are robert f kennedy jr. notably for his positions on the covid vaccine. he said despite being one of the most vaccine countries in the world u.s. has the highest death rate. arthel: lucas tomlinson live at

the white house, thank you lu lucas. >> some of these republicans get into office and they are like potted plants. they do not do anything. some of them don't like making decisions because as a leader in time you make a decision there's going to be people who like it then there's going to some people that don't. what a way not to alienate anyone is to just not to do anything but that is not leadership. >> four to ron desantis of course speaking today in utah given what sounded like a white house campaign speech. though it's not yet officially enter the race. so far six gop candidates have officially declared for the 2024 republican nomination. but that soon will change more big names are poorly set to join the race starting next week. jon and bussey editor fox news congener joins us now. let's start the trump/desantis battle. the wall street journal, your paper is a new poll the former president almost double digits
1:12 pm
or double over desantis. you think that will hold ores are just too early to handicap the race? >> it is too early i think. desantis has not declared yet that was evidently running. i think it is too early to really pay a huge amount of attention to the polls. former president trump has the advantage of a quasi- incu incumbency. he just wasn't president. he has a kind of fern grip on the gop machine and fundraising. he did a lot of favors for a lot of tenets over the last few years he's calling in those chips. he's getting endorsements including for members of the congressional delegation from florida wish desantis wants to lock up. but he is way ahead right now, has a story on this it is too early to say. we have not seen the other candidates weigh in yet. before apparently only one member of congress in florida has backed the governor while
1:13 pm
the others that have their choice have backed the pres president? >> that is not good for des desantis. he needs to lock up those congressional candidates and endorsements for himself. he is kind of getting his arms around what it's like to run for president. he is a young guy, he was in congress but still sort of has to understand and develop the machinery of the to run a national campaign. what a lot of other canids are holding back because they want to see how the voter is responding to another trump run. mind you republicans are nervous about this. they had not done wellin the last three elections. they blame them partly on the turmoil around donald trump the constant chaos, the indictment and potential future indic indictments. the lawsuit for rape, all of
1:14 pm
these things that have kind of distracted the republican party. they are wondering whether the electorate is beginning to look at this and say smash mouth politics may have been entertaining in 2016. but really what we do in elections as we elect managers. we elect people to run government forced to fill the potholes, to manage the budgets. are there other candidates out there that might to that more effectively without all the drama that the trump administration brought forward. that is where hutchison, the young guns of virginia, thence, possibly chris christie again, that's what they are counting on. eric: not to mention national security, china, dealing with vladimir putin or not dealing with him, helping ukraine when it's war. who'd you see in terms of the list you just mentioned between the former vice president and chris christie for example, is
1:15 pm
there one that will potentially break out of the pack that we should keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks? >> and give keep an eye on all them right now. none of them are breaking out of the pack desantis has but he has kind of slipped the margin between him and trump has widened which means he former president is doing a better against desantis. primaries are nine months off. so we still have a lot of time for it but eric, what you just articulate it's really important for me but to think about. this kind of another candidate in this race and those are the issues. what is it people are going to be focusing on? there will be focusing on an economy's not doing too badly. the billikens the job market, can i get a job? historically low unemployment. the job market is good still there looking at inflation. it is high it is unpleasant, it's coming down very slowly. immigration you mention, ukraine you mentioned i put abortion on
1:16 pm
that list. i put social security on that list. those are the candidates the electorate is going to be thinking about. how do they forward their position on those issues and hire managers who are going to manage none as opposed to kick up a lot of dust. watch for the canids come down on those topics and you may see front runners emerge. eric: quickly look at the bottom melissa thought so was fastening i saw tim's house 3%. trinity the entrepreneur who has been running he is in iowa on a bus to work. his insight woke and then it's a resonating among some. you see the progress there at least affecting the debate for what ramaswamy is doing? let's him and nikki haley don't forget a former un ambassador. there is a lot of common tone
1:17 pm
with trump. anti- lefts, insight woke. on the other hand look, this is a country generally -- make it as a conservative country's moderate democrats as moderate republicans. how much is that going to resonate at the end of the day with swing voters, republican women than people the republican party lost in less than elections. they have got to think about how to galvanize their message around a slightly more centrist position so it does not look so extreme so gets the swing vote voters. eric: we are beginning a horse race just out of the gate. good to see you jon, thank you. by the way fox news is going to host the first republican primary debates. that will be in august in milwaukee. lots to report on we will have a lot more here and "fox news live" when we come back. be ready for every moment, with glucerna.

eric: hunter biden's legal team will meet next week federal prosecutors were investigating the president's son. sources tell fox news the meeting was requested before an irs agent came forward to declare the probe is being mishandled.
1:22 pm
alexandria hoff has a story from washington. >> fox news has learned this meeting was set up at the request of hunter biden's legal team weeks ago. it does not indicate charges are evident. prosecutors are looking into two possible misdemeanor tax charges, a felony tax evasion charge and a felony gun charge related to a purchase. now, will not related this meeting comes as an irs agent turned whistleblower is claiming the biden administration has given preferential treatment to the president's son. >> my client wrestled with whether or not to come forward pretty had a lot of sleepless nights about coming forward with this. doctor turney markel eitel said his client seeks to provide details that contradict sworn testimony to congress by senior political appointee. multiple reports have named that appointee as attorney general merrick garland who testified before congress last month that he has not interfered with the investigation. >> i promise to leave a matter of hunter biden in the hands of the u.s. attorney for the

district of delaware brickwork at the same time secretary of state antony blinken is facing accusations by house republicans who say testimony from former cia director michael morell indicated blinken, who was a biting campaign advisor at the time push the creation of a letter signed by over 50 intelligence officials in 2020. kathy hunter biden's laptop story as a possible russian disinformation. democrats on house judiciary committee firing back at that writing quote mr. blinken did not direct comments suggest or or insinuated anyway he should write a letter about hunter biden's laptop. nor did mr. blinken then a private citizen try to get at the letter indirectly bring the statement sums up the accusation as a sensationalized 3-year-old tabloid story. eric: alright alexander thank you, arthel. arthel: eric, the abortion drug will stay on the market for now. the supreme court last night deciding the drug can remain
1:24 pm
available while legal challenges moved to the lower courts. currently 24 states and d.c. offer access without restrictions. plaintiffs the fda failed to consider potential safety concerns when it approved the drug 23 years ago. the fda says there is extensive data showing the drug is safe and effective. let's bring in doctor janette she is fox news medical contributor. so doctor janette. tell us what it is and why mifepristone has been the leading medication for abortion and miscarriages. >> hay arthel mifepristone a steroid medication. placement fda approved since 2000 it was fda approved. it's a multi use of medication. what that means it has more than one use it is used to an early pregnancy is me less than 10 weeks gestation or 70 days. it's also used to help manage miscarriages millions of women
1:25 pm
suffer from miscarriages every year. in addition to that we as if her disease called it's also used to preach treat brain tumors that also uterine tumors it's a multi use medication. it's not always used alone. for example if it is used to help manage a miscarriage for example it is used in conjunction with another medication to make it easier for the woman when they're going to this event. arthel: if the focus is about this drug because of medical abortions. what is a medical abortion? that is a good question. there are two types of abortions, medical and surgical abortion. 93% of women who have an abortion do so in the first trimester. usually less than 13 weeks gestation. over half of them about 55% use a medicine thus the medication abortion during this procedure. others be on that with you
1:26 pm
surgical means, surgical intervention if necessary. so again most of the women use it in the first trimester. they use this medicine to help them in conjunction with mifepristone to make it easier to not only with the miscarriage itself but to expel the products of conception. the problem, arthel, we are concerned for complications. some complications can be life-threatening hemorrhaging, bleeding, infection. this is one of the reasons why the group in texas brought this up for the courts because of their concern for it safety and efficacy. it's reasonable to reevaluate medications. i will only help patients in the long run. thus we are seeing it now it's over being brought up now especially a week after roe versus wade has been overturned. sue had the bleeding and hemorrhaging you are talking about is only eight people who
1:27 pm
take mifepristone for it miscarriages or pregnancies. he mentioned so many other uses for it. >> guess. and then 24 hours later you will take another medicine to help expel products of conception. that is when you start to see the hemorrhaging, the bleeding because these drugs together help your body to remove these products of conception. the city remains in products of conception when it results in an infection or abscess and fever you may end up requiring surgery. i think that's what's so important to not just mail medications. it's important you are in the presence of a doctor who evaluates you premises is going on with you, orders and blood work, or miss ultrasound and policy to make sure you are safe and receive the best plan of care. arthel: you don't have to say this but i am extracting is that it seems that the mail in abortion is the part that's not so safe about the drug itself under a doctor's supervision is.
1:28 pm
that is what i took away prayer not sure but let me move on. what is the alternative though if mifepristone is not accessible to the women who need it? >> these medications are used worldwide in more than 90 countries. instead of using both medicines together, some doctors may resort to using mifepristone alone. it's not as efficacious as them together. until it may not work as effectively. you may have more side effects for example nausea, vomiting, weakness or dizziness. these medications could potentially have side effects. all side effects. >> exactly. that is why it is reasonable to ensure they are safe. that they are affected. at the question arises it's really helpful to our patients that we do investigate.
1:29 pm
arthel: it again to clarify any misconceptions that it is not just used for abortions or miscarriages. again, telells of the other diseases or medical issues it's used for? quest for example i had patients who suffered from men about mill about it called christians a cylinder of it helps alleviate some of their symptoms. what it does is this medicine helps block the hormone progesterone. also in the uterus if a uterine tumor and capturing get hurt in the brain if you are suffering and can also help alleviate the symptoms of that. so you do not have to always end up in the operating room and go straight toward surgical means. but again the concerned whites are rising now is because of safety and efficacy. that's icing up into question again. and of course because of the abortion issue if this is a means of abortion. there are some states that have
1:30 pm
a band purchasing without the roe versus wade they set their decision to the state we may end up seeing that again the situation. arthel: dr. janette nesheiwat let's in their thank you very much take care. >> all right, thank you arthel. you are thank you dr. janette nesheiwat and arthel but it can be a parent's worst nightmare getting a call from a child that they are in danger and need help. what if the voice on the other end of the line turned out to be generated by artificial intelligence and is a potential scam? on the very latest is fox news alive continues on this sat saturday. you got ppp and it only takes eight minutes to qualify. i went on their website, uploaded everything, and i was blown away by what they could do. getrefunds.com has helped businesses get over a billion dollars and we can help your business too. qualify your business for a big refund in eight minutes. go to getrefunds.com to get started.
